What does everyone recommend for a multi-function machine

We have a small office but need high speed printing and more importantly high speed scanning.  We currently have a xerox workcentre that have been decent but is in need of repair.  Instead of spending the money on that it is time for a new machine.  I would like to stay away from xerox as I called them to help fix current machine and the only advice they would give me over the phone was two power down the machine for 15 seconds.  Obviously this did not work and then they wanted $275 for the the 1st 15 minutes for a tech to come out, ridiculous.  Anyway, what do you guys recommend?  I am looking to spend around $2,500.

Call your local office equiptment service and sales, they can recommend the best product for your circumstances as they have exposure to many different machines and problems.

  • Operating System Image VS Operating System Installer - what does everyone recommend and which is quicker?

I have worked out that all of the configuration in our windows 7 image can be applied through the task sequence after the operating system is installed. Currently we apply and image and then add configuration.
I am wondering would I be better off just adding a Windows 7 installer instead of imaging? Which method would be quicker?
Would be interested to see how everyone does this.
One thing to consider is windows updates, as if we have an image (WIM file) we can inject updates to it through software update point on patch Tuesday to save having to apply them through the task sequence. We can't inject updates into the installer so time
taken to install 100 odd patches has to be taken into consideration.

The only reason to use an Installer post SP1 is for legacy OSes like XP or Server 2003 where no image actually exists on the media. Pre-SP1, there were issues with drive letters because of an on-going, back-and-forth mis-match of assumptions between the
Windows team and the ConfigMgr that required you to build an image from the actual installer. This was resolved in SP1 through the use of the OSDPreserveDriveLetter task sequence variable. There's a also a supportability issue when using an OS Installer --
I don't remember the details off hand though I know I wrote about them in the unleashed book if you are curious.
Thus, unless you are deploying XP or 2003, you should be using images only -- either image.wim directly (which you really should only use in a build and capture) or yur recaptured image.

  • I just purchased MBP and it is my first Apple computer. How concerned should I be about virus software and what do you recommend for security software?

I just purchased MBP and it is my first Apple computer. How concerned should I be about virus software and what do you recommend for security software?

    1. This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
    2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files, and to block insecure web plugins. This feature is transparent to the user, but internally Apple calls it "XProtect." The malware recognition database is automatically checked for updates once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets (see below.)
It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
    3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been another layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't actually been tested by Apple (unless it comes from the Mac App Store), but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. For most practical purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed can be considered safe.
Gatekeeper has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could find some other way to evade Apple's controls.
For more information about Gatekeeper, see this Apple Support article.
    4. Beyond XProtect and Gatekeeper, there’s no benefit, in most cases, from any other automated protection against malware. The first and best line of defense is always your own intelligence. All known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the malware attacker. If you're smarter than he thinks you are, you'll win.
That means, in practice, that you never use software that comes from an untrustworthy source. How do you know whether a source is trustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” "player," "extractor," or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. (Some reputable websites did legitimately warn visitors who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.)
Pirated copies or "cracks" of commercial software, no matter where they come from, are unsafe.
Software of any kind downloaded from a BitTorrent or from a Usenet binary newsgroup is unsafe.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. If it comes from any other source, it's unsafe.
    5. Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was never a good idea, and Java's developers have had a lot of trouble implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style "virus" affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful. Fortunately, Java on the Web is mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers. In Safari, this is done by unchecking the box marked Enable Java in the Security tab of the preferences dialog.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a specific task, enable Java only when needed for the task and disable it immediately when done. Close all other browser windows and tabs, and don't visit any other sites while Java is active. Never enable Java on a public web page that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, password-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be practically as safe from malware as you can be.
    6. Never install any commercial "anti-virus" or "Internet security" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good, if they do any good at all. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial "anti-virus" products?
Their design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the file system. Malware is downloaded from the network; it doesn't materialize from nowhere.
In order to meet that nonexistent threat, the software modifies or duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability, bugs, and poor performance.
By modifying the operating system, the software itself may create weaknesses that could be exploited by malware attackers.
    7. ClamXav doesn't have these drawbacks. That doesn't mean it's entirely safe. It may report email messages that have "phishing" links in the body, or Windows malware in attachments, as infected files, and offer to delete or move them. Doing so will corrupt the Mail database. The messages should be deleted from within the Mail application.
ClamXav is not needed, and should not be relied upon, for protection against OS X malware. It's useful only for detecting Windows malware. Windows malware can't harm you directly (unless, of course, you use Windows.) Just don't pass it on to anyone else.
A Windows malware attachment in email is usually easy to recognize. The file name will often be targeted at people who aren't very bright; for example:
    ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!H0TBABEZ4U!!!!!!!.AVI♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.exe
ClamXav may be able to tell you which particular virus or trojan it is, but do you care? In practice, there's seldom a reason to use ClamXav unless a network administrator requires you to run an anti-virus application.
    8. The greatest harm done by anti-virus software, in my opinion, is in its effect on human behavior. It does little or nothing to protect people from emerging threats, but they get a false sense of security from it, and then they may behave in ways that expose them to higher risk. Nothing can lessen the need for safe computing practices.
    9. It seems to be a common belief that the built-in Application Firewall acts as a barrier to infection, or prevents malware from functioning. It does neither. It blocks inbound connections to certain network services you're running, such as file sharing. It's disabled by default and you should leave it that way if you're behind a router on a private home or office network. Activate it only when you're on an untrusted network, for instance a public Wi-Fi hotspot, where you don't want to provide services. Disable any services you don't use in the Sharing preference pane. All are disabled by default.

  • What does Qmaster do for Shake 4.1

    Hi Everyone,
So what does Qmaster do for Shake 4.1? Can i run Shake and have all the functions without Qmaster?
See, I had to take the new Qmaster off, so that I could run Compressor, being that Compressor needs and will not run with the older version (2.0.1) of Qmaster, so now I have Compressor working but, am just thinking, will i loss, or what will I loss on Shake w/o the new Qmaster.
    Christopher

Apple Qmaster is a system of utilities that provides automated work distribution and
processing projects created with Shake and other software packages on Mac OS X.
Shake provides an optional interface, available as a subtree at the bottom of the
Render Parameters window, which lets you submit jobs to the Apple Qmaster system.
For more information on setting up and using Apple Qmaster, you are stongly
encouraged to see the Apple Qmaster User Manual.
    So -- yes.

  • Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates?

Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates? All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???

Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.

  • Finished Editing - What does everyone export to?

    Hey
I have just been playing around with exporting to different formats when the edit had been completed. There are loads of formats available when you use the Quick Time Conversion - What does everyone here use??
Ofcourse for different applications you will use different formats. But im curious as to what formats people use the most, and what one they use for what application??
I am finding that when exporting HD footage, you can lose much of the film quality - unless you wait the hour or so for it to encode it into a Quicktime film.
I look forward to hearing what you have to say. . .
    Thanks

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Keep in mind that a HD content converted to a SD (Standard definition) format will loose quality because resolution is 6 times smaller in a SD format. C'est la vie.
When I do "HD" in FCE, I print to tape my finished project on a "final program" tape, I keep source tape with all non-video material on CD or data DVD to make further edit in futur.
I can export with quicktime (not self-contained) and drag the resulting file in a Standard screen DVD project. The conversion process will occur within iDVD. I'll get a standard DVD for use in home.
**When my goal is to produce a SD DVD right from start, I downconvert HDV material from my Camcorder -Sony FX1- upon capturing process. It's faster and more reliable than convert HDV within iDVD-PAY ATTENTION TO WIDE SCREEN ISSUES.
I can export with quicktime conversion to H.264 with full or half size frame dimensions and burn a CD or data DVD or leave a copy on your hard drive. (HD content on Quicktime's web site is compressed with H.264)
Finally, I use Flip4Mac studio to make some kinds of WMF files for my PC friends.

System will post Excise JV Document; Accounting Document with Part2 Serial No has been successfully created.
TIPS to simplify Excise JV transactions: - (J1IH)
    1. Assigning Excise Invoices to Line Items
Use: - When you make an adjustment posting, you follow this procedure if you want to specify the original excise invoice associated with a line item.
    Procedure: -
    1. Select the line item that you want and choose Get excise invoice.
The system displays a list of all the excise invoices that you have posted from this vendor for this particular material.
    2. Select the excise invoice that you want and click on u201CEnteru201D button.
    The system:
u2022 Enters the excise invoice document number in the Ref. doc. field (Reference document).
u2022 Calculates how much of the excise duty from the excise invoice should be apportioned to the line item and enters it in the excise duty fields.
If you then overwrite these amounts, you should also overwrite the reference document number with an explanatory text, since there is no point in maintaining the link to the reference document anymore.
For e.g. you have a line item with ten plates of glass that you have broken and are to be scrapped. You have three excise invoices from the same vendor to choose from. You pick one for 20 plates of glass with BED at INR 200. The system automatically apportions INR 100 to the line item that is to be reversed.
    2. Specifying Which CENVAT Accounts to Adjust
Use: - When you make an adjustment posting, you have to specify which CENVAT accounts are to be adjusted.
    Procedure: -
    1. Choose Determine G/L accounts.
A dialog box appears that shows how much will be posted to which G/L accounts. The accounts that are displayed depend on the excise group and the CENVAT account that you entered on the selection screen.
    2. Add another account, if you need to, and adjust the other postings so that the credits and debits match.
    3. Enter a business area and cost center, if necessary.
    4. To close the dialog box, click on u201CEnteru201D button.
    3. Displaying CENVAT Account Balances
To display the balances of your CENVAT accounts, choose Balances.
The system displays the balances only of the CENVAT accounts that are affected by your G/L postings.
J1IS - Excise Invoice for Other Movements
You use this transaction to create Outgoing Excise Invoice for Vendor Return using ref. doc. type "MATD" (Material Doc - 122 Movement Type).
And Print the same in J1IV
Excise post & print for others mvmts (J1IV)
This is used to post the Excise documents of other movements (For e.g. Excise Invoice for Vendor Return) to FI and also used to take printout of the same.
Here In selection screen, enter Internal Doc of Excise doc and year then click Goto > Releaee to Accounting and also you can print using Goto > Print document.

  • What does 'DDIC' stands for??

    Hi,
When i checked the Technical spec. .I found there showed 'DDIC layout template'.
    What does 'DDIC' stands for??
    Thanks!

    DDIC stands for Data Dictionary
There exist ONE TO ONE relationship between ddic table and transparent table..
    It means :
There is a physical table on the database for each transparent table. The names of the physical tables and the logical table definition in the ABAP/4 Dictionary correspond and
one field in dictionary correspond to one field in physical database.
When the table is activated, a physical table definition is created in the database for the table definition stored in the ABAP Dictionary. The table definition is translated from the ABAP Dictionary to a definition of the particular database in One to One Relationship..
    Pooled table
Pooled tables can be used to store control data (e.g. screen sequences, program parameters or temporary data). Several pooled tables can be combined to form a table pool. The table pool corresponds to a physical table on the database in which all the records of the allocated pooled tables are stored.
    Cluster table
Cluster tables contain continuous text, for example, documentation. Several cluster tables can be combined to form a table cluster. Several logical lines of different tables are combined to form a physical record in this table type. This permits object-by-object storage or object-by-object access. In order to combine tables in clusters, at least parts of the keys must agree. Several cluster tables are stored in one corresponding table on the database.

  • What does MIDlet stands for?

    HI All!
MIDP stands for MOBILE INFORMATION DEVICE PROFILE.
    What does MIDlet stands for?
    Thanks in Advance!

I don't think the 'let' part stands for anything. MID is MOBILE INFORMATION DEVICE like you said. A MIDlet is an application written for MIDP.
