What does Firefox put onto my computer in private browsing mode?
Forgive me if this has been asked a million times before
I love private browsing but for security I'd love to know exactly what I leave on my C: Drive when I exit a Private Browsing session?
- Is there any trace of visited sites
- Is there any trace of viewed images
- Is there any trace of passwords / email addresses / text entered
- Is there any trace of MSN / Yahoo messenger conversations (in web mode)
If I use Private Browsing in combination with CC Cleaner (or similar) am I correct in assuming only my ISP can track where I've been or can other users of the same computer do this?
If you visit web pages that use MS software or plugins (WMP, Silverlight) then those plugins use the IE Temporary Internet folder and Cookies and may very well leave tracks there. Other plugins that do not recognize Private Browsing mode may very well do that. Flash 10.1 does recognize that mode, but I don't know about other plugins.

This question can have many answers. If you selected, as you downloaded the file, a custom place to place the download, Firefox will have stored the file there (if the download was successfully completed). If you forgot where it was, you can go into Tools > Downloads, rightclick the file you want, and select "Open Containing Folder".
If Firefox did not ask you where to save the file, you go into Tools > Options > General and select the location where Firefox will store your downloads. Here, you can also configure it to ask you every time you choose to save a download. As before, you can go into Tools > Downloads and ask for the containing folder.
If you simply opened the download without asking Firefox to save it, it's possible that you can still access your file (if you did not close Firefox in the meantime). Files are are opened and not stored, are temporarily placed in a cache folder so you can use it while your Firefox session lasts. Simply go into Tools > Downloads, and, as before, ask for the containing folder. From there, you can copy/cut the file and paste it anywhere you want. -
I am in the process of trying to transfer my iTunes library from one computer to another. Some of the music/film info has been edited (by me) in my library (using get info). When put onto new computer (following apple's instructions- using an external hard drive) the info has gone back to how it was before i edited it.. Help!?

Yes, or you can simply restart. As you don't have the CDs, this isn't on the plate any more.
The internal backup battery is not expensive and, in most iMacs is user-replacable. If yours has a tray-loading optical drive like this one:
it takes a major teardown to replace the internal battery. If this is the case, you'd be better off to leave the computer plugged in all the time; that eliminates the main reason for having a working battery.
If it has a slot-loading optical drive like this one:
things are much easier. The battery is visible through the RAM access door on the bottom of the computer case. The manual:

has sketches of how to access the RAM and therefore the backup battery. Unfortunately, the pdf on the manual goes up sideways on-screen and the RAM instructions are pretty deep into the manual. It's probably easier to scroll (for a while) to the section on adding RAM and print the applicable pages.
When you work on the battery, some sort of non-conductive pliers or large tweezer or forceps help unless you have tiny fingers. Make sure to note the polarity of the old battery and install the new one in the same orientation.
The battery itself is readily available. If price is no oblect, you can get it for a small rasom from Radio Shack Store ("Tandy" outside the US) as part number 23-026.

You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

I have a Netflix subscription, which is supposed to let me watch movies online, on its website. However, when I selected one of their "Instant Viewing" movies, a page popped up, saying: "Silverlight Application Storage Error -- Firefox's private browsing mode is restricting Netflix from storing settings on your computer. There is no such "Tools" tab/menu at the top of my Firefox browser; there's only a drop-down box with various headings, but "Tools" is not among them.

I need to get records of websites I visited for 2011 & 2012 while private browsing on Mozilla firefox. The info page said although this info would not be recorded onto my computer there would be records of these websites through the Internet provider. How do I obtain these records?
Your ISP's systems keep a running record of all requests and responses through your internet connection. How long these are preserved will vary. Please note, however, that these records might not be available to you even though you are their customer; they might limit access to law enforcement or other requests accompanied by a subpoena. You could contact your service provider and see what they are willing to do for you.
Note: Your ISP would have no idea which requests were made in regular browsing mode versus private browsing mode because it looks identical from where they are. You would have to figure that out for yourself. -
Will accountability software still pick up unsuitable browsing when the computer is in private browsing mode?
That depends. If they're reading Firefox files to see if you're visiting certain sites, then it won't show up. However if they're watching (or blocking) your network traffic or other things outside of Firefox, then they'll still be able to detect what sites you're visiting.

The purpose of asking this Q is: I'm a web developer. I want to visit a site freshly (without any data used from cache). But I don't want to clear all my cache/cookies etc from all the sites I've visited so far. So I wish if I can switch to PB mode and visit this one site which doesn't use any data from normal mode cache .Firefox doesn't use the disk cache in Private Browsing mode, but does use the memory cache. In Private Browsing cookies from normal mode are not available and a new set of (session) cookies will be created that will be removed if you exit Private Browsing mode.<br />
