What does "General Installation Error" mean?
I was attempting to install Flash Player ver. 11.9.900.117 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X v. 10.8.5. The installation fails with the message "General Installation Error." What is the cause of this error and how do I fix it?
I'm not sure if I deleted it or not, but having read several of the messages posted on this thread I did the on-line re-installation of the OS just in case I did unwittingly. After re-installing the OS, I'm now able to install the latest version of Flash Player.
The upshot is don't delete that mach_kernel file!
Mystery solved!
P.S. - Has anyone posted or passed this onto Apple?

What does disk2s2: alignment error mean?
I just got a Western Digital My Book. It was a warranty exchange. Its 4TB and came PC formatted. I reformatted for Mac.... In disk utility, selected partition, 1 partition, guild format, and applied. In console though, it gave me a disk2s2: alignment error. What does this mean?
Hello graphicgirl44,
It sounds like you are getting an error from a partition on your replacement hard drive. There can be a few things that could cause that error, so I would use the Disk Utility to attempt to repair this external drive:
Repair disk formatting information
In the list at the left, select the disk you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s at the far left, and not one indented to the right.)
Click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Disk Utility examines your disk’s formatting information for errors and corrects any it finds.
If Disk Utility can’t repair the disk’s formatting information, back up as much of your data as possible, partition it, reinstall OS X, then restore your backed-up data.
Partition a disk
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

What does the -6753 error mean and what can I do about it?
I just responded to the Airport Utility request to update my new Time Capsule, and the older Time Capsule that I had set up as an extension. The update was fine for the new Capsule, but has failed for the older one, with the error message:
An error occurred while updating the firmware. -6753 OK
I've tried repeating the update, but I get the same error message. What does it mean, and what can I do to overcome this?
Thanks so much!Do you have a Java Preference Pane in System Preferences? if not, Java isn't installed and from your description, it sounds like it may be required. You can also try running this Java Test.

What does BYE system error mean?
I am using javamail to connect to an IMAP service. Most of the time it seems fine, but once in a while I get an error message when trying to connect to the store:
javax.mail.MessagingException: * BYE System Error 42if5891749yxe.30;
nested exception is:
com.sun.mail.iap.ConnectionException: * BYE System Error 42if5891749yxe.30
at com.sun.mail.imap.IMAPStore.protocolConnect(IMAPStore.java:609)
at javax.mail.Service.connect(Service.java:291)
Anyone know what the cause might be?Other clients may not be using the same IMAP protocol messages that JavaMail does.
The error may be triggered by different behavior in JavaMail vs. other mail clients, but the
error is still occurring in the server, not in JavaMail.
It looks like you're getting the error when you try to connect. Does it occur every time
you try to connect? Does the full protocol trace provide any other useful information about
what might be going wrong? Are you using the technique described in the JavaMail FAQ
to connect to Gmail? -
What does this console error mean?
I just got my 13" non-retina MacBook Pro back from the Apple Genius bar since the cable that connected my hard drive was failing. Before I brought it in, it suddenly went from an OK speed to a something is wrong speed. But before I took it in on Monday, I opened up the console and it had these errors that had to do with like the SMC and such. Before they took it in, we re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed OSX. That didn't fix it and the last backup I had on my Time Capsule was April 3 of this year. When I got it back, I transferred my data from the Time Capsule so I didn't have to re-install all my programs and such and I had a VERY important video stored on the Capsule. And today, I noticed while in my science class, the top bar on the top of the screen wtih the Apple symbol was missing. I shut it down and performed a disk utility, SMC reset, and PRAM reset and those errors are still there. Also when I went into iPhoto to retrieve the video I had, photos would appear in the boxes for a split second and then disappear and when I try to vew them, I got a triangle with an "!" within it. I can open them in Aperture but no videos can be accessed. But back to the errors. I get these two errors as a pattern in the console:
4/9/14 12:46:44.000 PM kernel[0]: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR TC0D kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff8022443000
4/9/14 12:46:49.000 PM kernel[0]: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR F1Mn kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff8022443000
What do they mean and how do I fix them? So far, there aren't any major performance issues, it just runs a little slower than before. I bought my MacBook brand new in September of last year (2013) with all standard configurations but I did upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB since I'm a mobile DJ. I haven't contacted Apple yet but I will when I get home later today since I'm still in school. And also when I try and open the files stored on my time capsule, it says I don't have permission to. Like... It's the same computer. It was restored from a Time Machine Backup. How do I allow the correct permissions? This is my computer, no one else uses it unless my brother wants to connect friends/family in minecraft. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
sudo mdutil -t 416080
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.

K8N Neo4 platinum----what does MBR 3 Error mean?
Lately I have been seeing "MBR 3 Error" on the DOS like screen when I boot up. This may have happened following the installation of a second hard drive, not sure. I've searched through the manual for error codes and been through the motherboard set up screens (CMOS) but saw nothing. Where can I go to diagnose this error? Systems seems to run fine as far as I can tell, just don't like seeing any errors reported.
Quote from: mcszele on 09-December-05, 13:38:50
You can also try "fdisk /mbr" that supposedly rebulids the MBR. I've never used it personally. I generally just re-format when things go wrong.
you shouldn't do this before backing up your data. fdisk has a funny way to make you lose all the data from the machine, and you'll probably spend a day to recover it. so make sure that you do a backup before using this. -

What does -Xlint compile error mean?
I am new to Java.... I have an application and when I run the javac compiler I am getting the following error.
Note: InventoryFinal.java uses unchecked or unsafe operations.
Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.
So then I compiled using javac -Xlint and I get the following error
InventoryFinal.java:20: warning: [unchecked] unchecked conversion
found : java.util.ArrayList
required: java.util.ArrayList<Company>
al=new ArrayList();
^
1 warning
After I compile with the -Xlint switch the application runs as I expect it to. I am concerned about this message and would like to undestand how to fix the problemIt's not really an error. It's a warning. Actually it calls itself a "note".
"Lint" is the traditional name for a program or compiler option that checks another program for stylistic issues or potential problem areas, but which aren't necessarily wrong.
Your program should still run if all you get are warnings like these.
This warning is telling you that you're not using the parameterized types (aka generics) that were introduced in JDK 1.5. These allow you to make code that gets better type checking during compilation, which means that if your code has a bug you'll find it then, when compiling, and you won't have to be surprised with the bug during runtime. (The bug would still happen if it exists; you can just find out about it earlier when it's not a problem.)
Generics are a good thing. There are tutorials about them on this site and elsewhere. Google for them, find them, read them. -

Basically, ARDagent.app is used for the iChat screen sharing service, and it was modified with the Apple Remote Desktop update. The "errors" are more likely the way things are supposed to be, but have not been included in the Disk Utilities exceptions list.
Everyone who has done the update has the SUID warning. Most have ACL exceptions on several folders. You seem to have it on a lot, but I wouldn't worry. That's probably exactly how ACL settings are supposed to be for those folders—Disk Utility just doesn't know it yet. -

You may find the troubleshooting steps toward the bottom of the article below helpful. Please keep in mind, diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

Can anyone tell me what this Time Machine error means? The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features?
AFP - Apple Filing Protocol
The Network Attached Storage (NAS) that you are pointing Time Machine at does not have the features needed by Time Machine in order to do its Thing. Time Machine needs some specific features that are not typically available on generic networked storage devices.
There are manufactures that support the Mac OS X HFS+ file system formats and implement all the needed AFP protocol packets necessary so that they can be used with Time Machine, but apparently yours does not.
If you are not using a networked mounted volume for Time Machine, then more information will be needed about your Time Machine setup.
