What does IE for Mac have that Safari doesn't?

Hi, folks.
The administrative website of my company doesn't work in Safari. That's a fact.
I've always accepted the idea that it would not work in Safari because it uses windows-only technology. BUT, the fact is that it works in Internet Explorer for Mac.
Since IE for Mac stopped in version 5, the sites gets very ugly (trucated text, out-of-size windows, giant bars), ugly but still functional.
So, if it works in IE for Mac, it seems for me that the site doesn't require Windows, but something found in IE that Safari doesn't have.
Does anyone know what this could be?
Thanks in advance.
JP

Without a URL to the pages we're all guessing.
Web pages are not designed for OS's and those that work for Windows should also work on Macs.
But many functions of Web design is optimized for specific browsers and, since IE for PC's is still about 75%, it seems it gets the most attention.
Since most Windows browsers do not play by the "rules" set forth in Web standards those old, poorly coded, pages do not render as designed when viewed in a browser that does follow industry standards.
Update your page code and it will work in any browser.

Will numbers for mac offer a mail merge feature?

    Nicole Lynn,
Version 2 of Numbers (iWork '09) does have Mail Merge. If your profile is correct, that's probably what you are using. The instructions for using the feature are in the Pages User Guide PDF.
If your profile is out of date and you are using iWork '13 apps, you're out of luck. But, you can always go back to Version 2 of Numbers and Version 4 of Pages.

  • What does 13.0.4 have that 13.0.1 lacks for PC users?

I know that a number of things have changed, but being a PC/Windows user I can't say for sure because there have been zero updates since 13.0.1.
Can we assume that 13.0.2, 13.0.3, and 13.0.4 have at least some bugfixes that a PC user might need/want?
I fully understand not wanting to distribute 13.0.2 and 13.0.3 for PC users, given the debacle with licensing.  Those of us not recipients of these updates have dodged all those problems.  For that, I for one thank whomever chose to be conservative with the release process.
But assuming 13.0.4 actually fixes the activation/licensing problems, might PC users expect an update?
Yes, I realize that we lucky PC users still have the View - Print Size function in Photoshop CS6 as a result of being left out of all this fun.
    -Noel

Noel Adobe has not been doing a good job maintaining their software for the last few releases of Photoshop. CS6 the buggiest version of Photoshop ever and it looks like this trend is continuing into their cloud environment.  Adobe seems to be adding even more bugs into their code every-time they update the cloud.  How long will the cloud users put up with this conduct.
It may be better to leave the cloud and only update to a new release of Photoshop when one test that a New Photoshop release trial download will do the job the need to get done.   Lately New releases of Photoshop have not been adding any new function that I would consider must have features or function.
ACR now is quite mature I don't know how much better it can be made. The only reason I upgraded from CS3 was for improvement in ACR in CS5 and CS6.  CS6 was unusable for my use for the first five months that is how long it took Adobe to fix 56 major core problems in the CS6 release.  Many other bugs have not been address and bit my code.
If corporation with volume licence start demanding better support Adobe may have to consider developing code that works.
Right now Adobe only gives users a  "Limited Warranty Except as otherwise stated in a separate agreement between Adobe and a Software licensee, Adobe warrants to the individual or entity that first purchases a license for the Software for use pursuant to the terms of this agreement that the Software will perform substantially in accordance with the corresponding user manual for the Software for the shorter period of (a) the ninety (90) day period or (b) License Term following receipt of the Software (“Warranty Period”) when used on the Compatible Computer. Non-substantial variation of performance from the user manual does not establish a warranty right. This limited warranty does not apply to the following ..... etc"  Right now Adobe documentation and manuals are is such bad shape this Warranty is not worth the paper its printed on.  Everyone who bought CS6 when it first was release would be entitled to their money it took Adobe 150 days  to come out with an initial fix IMO.

    Hello.

I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long.  After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix.  I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

  • Are there any good DVD authoring programs for Mac now that Apple has discontinued DVD Studio and iDVD? I need to make DVDs that have interactive menus and such (Final Cut X and Compressor 4's DVD option is a little cheap). Any ideas?

Are there any good DVD authoring programs for Mac now that Apple has discontinued DVD Studio and iDVD? I need to make DVDs that have interactive menus and such (Final Cut X and Compressor 4's DVD option is a little cheap and doesn't provide any kind of professional DVD authoring). Any ideas?

This comes up a lot these days.
Practically speaking, there are really four options for the Mac platform: Toast (<$100),  Adobe Premier Productiom ($1,600 to buy or $50/month to rent),  find a copy of Final Cut Studio from 3rd  party (+/- $1,000 new) or a boxed edition of iLife to get iDVD ($50 - $90 on Amazon new).
The other question everyone has is how many OS versions before iDVD or FCS breaks? No one knows, but Apple has said they're no longer supporting these legacy apps. Of course, no one is mandated to upgrade to a new OS unless they buy a new computer. So if it works on a system, stay with it as long as it makes sense.
    Good luck.

  • What does "You do not have sufficient access privileges" mean?

    Hello Gurus!
I am wondering what does "You do not have sufficient access privileges" mean? I have a G$ with 2 internal hard drives. One has OSX 10.3.9 loaded on it and the other has OSX 10.4.7 loaded on it. When I boot up in 10.4.7 and try to access (open or copy) anything in the the desktop, documents, library, movies, music or pictures folders in my user folder on the 10.3.9 disk, it tells me that "I do not have sufficient access privileges"! This is a single user machine and it automatically logs in as me... the administrator. I tried to look at Apple's technical documents regarding permissions and privileges, but it is very confusing with all of it's terminal commands and lingo. Does anyone know an easy (and hopefully GUI) way around this problem?
    Thanks Much,
    Mark

If you have a different system on each HD then you do not have a single user machine. The user on one system/boot volume is not the same user as the one on the other, even if they ahve the same name and password. If you boot from the 10.3 volume, you can select your user folder, go to File-Get Info, and change the access for others to read and write and click on the apply to enclosed items button. You should then be able to boot from the other system and move stuff around as you see fit. Of course, this is not a terribly secure state to leave your system in, as anyone who can gain access to your Mac can get at everything on your 10.3 home folder.
If you try this route, I'd suggest doing it only long enough to move everything to one home folder and then revert the access privs to the way they were.

  • What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?

What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?  It came with 10.4.11Lion.
I am upgrading my harddrive and would love to install the most current OS that I possibly can.
I also have a Macbook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard that I want to do the same with.  If they can both run the same OSX that would be helpful too.
    Thanks a MILLION!

Both of those MacBooks can run up to 10.7 Lion. (10.4.11 is Tiger) It's the RAM that you'll need to upgrade.
First you'll need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

what does "you do not have enough genius suggestions in your library to use this feature mean?

At face value it would suggest the content of your library is too obscure, however it might mean your library is too small for the feature to be active, or that it hasn't catalogued your content yet.

  • What does "RTR FOR ALP" mean?

I just finished switching my 1400 minute family plan over to the 1GB Share Everything Plan and I noticed that for all four of the phones on the plan (three smart phones and one basic phone), there is an added feature called RTR FOR ALP on all four lines.
I was shown that FRIENDS & FAMILY ALP - 10 would be removed from all lines and that RTR FOR CAPPED PLANS $0 would be removed from the 4G phone's line and RTR FOR CAPPED MBBC $0 would be removed from the basic phone's line. If I had enough examples of RTR and ALP in use I might be able to figure it out, but with only my own plan to look at, I'm stumped.
So what does RTR FOR ALP mean and what does the feature allow me to do that I couldn't do before?

I don't know what the letters stand for, exactly, but what's happening is the 10 Friends for all lines is being removed, since you know have unlimited calling and there is no need for F&F numbers.  The 4G phone and the Basic phone's  individual data caps have been removed, and the shared data cap has been applied to those lines.
Maybe with another cup of coffee I can come up with what the acronyms mean....
    ** EDIT
Coffee would not have helped   But Google did:
http://www.verizonbusiness.com/solutions/public_sector/federal/contracts/continuity_contract/redacted_contract/vol3_business/v3-contents.pdf  starting on page 6 lists pages of acronyms.
ALP(S) = Automatic Line Protection switching
    RTR = Real Time Restoration

  • What does "licensing for this product has stopped working"

What does "Licensing for this product has stopped working." mean?

    Hi ,
The error "Licensing for this product has stopped working" is related to the activation component of Creative Suite 3 and 4 software. It is related to a problem with the FlexNet Service.
This error often comes when the Adobe software is migrated from one computer to another rather then installing it properly.
Please check the link , it might be help:- http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
However if you have used the migration tool to transfer the software I would recommend to install the software using the original media.

  • What is the newest Mac desktop that will run OS9.1?

What is the newest Mac desktop that will run OS9.1?

Everymac web site with Apple model listing - http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/index-apple-specs-applespec.html
Check the above web site.  Unless somebody can give you a concise answer here you can start browsing different models and their boot requirements.  The system information is located in the lower half of each model's page.  Look at G4s and early G5s.
Note that anything that can run 10.4 or earlier will also support Classic.  Not all applications run well in Classic but many do.  If the primary purpose of the computer is to run this software it can be a bit tiresome to have to have Classic running all the time.  I find it okay to use but only work with it once a month for an hour or less.
My computer (G4 Quicksilver) boots to early OS9 natively but can also run anything up to OSX 10.5.  I can boot to OS9 but have neve needed to do so.

  • What does the red bubble mean that is near the phone symbol and moves over to the vm symbol when phone is turned on

What does the red bubble mean that appears near the phone symbol then moves over temporarly to the VM symbol, when first turning the phone on.  It goes away with a few seconds

It means you have no signal, or if on the VM icon, it means to visual voicemail.  Sounds like you're just getting it temporarily until the phone establishes a signal.
