What does image cannot be edited. The original is offline.

I was trying to edit a photo in an album and got an error message in right panel: Image Cannot be Edited; Original is offline.  What does that mean?

Is it just one photo, several or all?  Check iPhoto's Advanced preference pane to see how it's configured:
If you find you're running a Referenced library the missing originals may be gone for good.  You can search for them by name (from the thumbnail) on your hard drive to see if they are misplaced.  I'd download and use  Find Any File for that as it can search areas that Spotlight can't.
If it's only one or a couple select the thumbnail of one of them and use the File ➙ Show in Finder ➙ Original menu option to take you to where the file should be inside the library.  This is just to confirm that it's not there.

  • What Caused "Image Cannot Be Edited"?

I have 13,000 photos in iPhoto, which I began importing eight years ago (scanning old photos, importing digital photos).  I had no problems with my Power Mac G5 and its OS, and the earlier versions of iPhoto.  Then I got an iMac, shifted the photos from the G5, and no problems.  I continued to introduce into the iMac Apple's new OS and new versions of iPhoto, and no apparent problem. In fact I can document the following with my Mac:
3/11 upgraded to IPhoto '11 (current version 9.4.2)
3/11 upgraded the OS to 10.6.3 Snow Leopard
7/11 upgraded the OS to Lion (current version 10.7.5)
I thought I was doing the right thing by upgrading soon as new OS and new iPhoto came out.  Now I'm not so sure.
The past year I have not done any editing of my older photos.  I just went to edit some older photos and as I clicked on the photo, then edit, on the right side I get the message,  IMAGE CANNOT BE EDITED - This photo was previously edited with another application of with an early version of iPhoto.  Duplicate this photo to edit it.
This message applies to my first 10,000 photos.  I have spent hundreds of hours editing these photos.  The 3,000 photos from July 2009 are OK and can be edited.
So, must I duplicate each of these first 10,000 photos, each in their respective albums, to continue editing them?  This will take hundreds of hours more.  How in the world can Apple have such a poor transition between one OS and another, or between one IPhoto and another?  Has anyone experienced this situation before?  Is there a solution to my problem, or am I stuck with duplicating 10,000 photos (and deleting 10,000 photos), album by album, and then reediting them?
FYI, I have a a Mac Mini with iPhoto version 9.2.3 and OS X 10.6.8.  It has about 11,000 of these photos on it (I haven't loaded the last 2,000 photos onto it) and it does not demonstrate any of these editing problems.
Your observations and recommendations are recommended.

    Hi Larry
Thanks for setting me right on how this forum works.   Having now understood why the 'duplicate to edit' situation arises (thank you) I would offer some related advice:
Some photos that 'need duplicating in order to edit'  may appear incorrectly rotated in iphoto slide shows.
I came across this problem when I was showing an old iphoto slideshow to friends but some of the slides showed up turned 90 degrees.
In the album and slideshow preview they were correctly orientated.   I tried putting them into a new slideshow but they again came out rotated 90 degrees when the slideshow was run.
It turned out that all the ones that had this problem were ones that could not be edited without creating a duplicate first - but simply putting the duplicate into a slideshow resuted in exactly the same problem.  I tried rotating the duplicate and then rotating it back to its original position but this did not solve it either.
It seems that in order to get such photos to display the right way up in an iphoto slideshow you need to make an actual edit to the duplicated photo - eg crop it slightly or straighten it a fraction. Or rotate it and force a save, then go back, rotate it back again, and then it will show up fine in the slide show.
You can then rebuild the slideshow using the edited duplicates.

  • When playing a slide show there are many nonvisible photos.  They appear as "image cannot be edited. The original is offline."  Where is it and how can I get it back into my photo library?

How can I get all my images to show in my photo library?  When playing a slide show some of my photos have a message "Image Cannot Be Edited.  The original is offline."

    What version of iPhoto?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card.

  • "Unavailable master images cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."

I have imported my iPhoto library onto Aperture, and then deleted the iPhoto library so not to have any duplicates. Now, the images on Aperture are pixelated and when I try to export them the following message appears: "Unavailable master images cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."  What does this mean? How can I get my photos "online" so that I can see them as they used to be?

How did you import your iPhoto Library? I assume, you used "File > Import > iPhoto LIbrary", but how did you set the "Store Files" pop-up menu?
If you chose to "Store Files in their current location", then you did not actually import the master image files into Aperture, but referenced them inside the iPhoto Library. In that case, you just deleted all your images, when you deleted the iPhoto Library. And if you did that, and your iPhoto Library is still sitting in the Trash, put it back; then your Aperture Library should work again. Or restore the iPhoto Library from your most recent backup and put it into the exactly same location where it used to be.
If you used a different "Store Files" setting, please explain where you have chosen to store the master image files. This will help to track down your images.
After restoring your master image files you may need to reconnect them to the versions. Post back, if you need help with that.

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues, obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

  • What does it mean by deleting the Content of the setup table when LO cockpi

    Hi all:
what does it mean by deleting the Content of the setup table when LO cockpit ? why should we do it?  why set up tables ?
    Thank you very much!!!
Edited by: jingying Sony on Jun 7, 2009 4:46 AM

    Hi Jingying Soni,
Data sources in LO cockpit have a seperate exctraction source during full update mode and delta update mode.
During delta update mode(when an transaction is posted in any particular application - like SD - sales orderm delivery) data is posted in application tables and updated alongside to the update table/extraction queue.
From the extraction queue this data is further transfered to the delta queue using periodic background jobs. The data is then upladed in BW. The delta lad always reads data from this delta queue.
However, when a full load is requested from the BW, the data is sourced by the set up table of the corresponding application.
The setup table is loaded/initalized first. In this initialization process , it reads data frm the corresponding application tables and stores it within this table. Later BW reads from this set up table whenever full/initial load is requested.
The process of filling set up able before full load request frrom BW is called set up run.
Before you run a set up to fill the set up tables you need to check that the set up table is empty.
If it is still containing data that was previously loaded in some other set up run. This data will als get loaded in BW unitinetionally/accidentally.
So, you need to ensure that you only get the intended data in BW. This can be done by proper selections to transfer data from application tale to set up table and from setup table to BW.
Along with this you hae to ensure that the set up table is either empty or you are using a disparate selection in the set up run and BW load which does not overlap with the previous set up runs data.
    Hope it helps,
    Best regards,
    Sunmit.

As has been mentioned, the software in Mac OS X that supported the running of PPC applications rather than current Intel applications on Intel computers such as your MBP was last seen in Snow Leopard. However, since I believe your MBP originally came with Snow Leopard, you may be able to boot from the DVD's that came with the computer and install it on an external HD and try to install Quark on that.
I think a better solution would be to buy Snow Leopard Server from Apple by phone (800-692-7753 and be specific about wanting part # MC588Z/A), installing it as a virtual machine in software like VMware Fusion, and then installing Quark 6 in that. You'll still need a license number to authorize the Quark installation.

  • What does that superposed arrow on the airport icon mean?

On one computer I cannot connect to the airport base station as I can with all other Mac's using the same procedure on the same base station network. On the Mac I cannot connect from, a G5 is using OS 10.4.10, the airport strength symbol is not highlighted and there is a vertical highlighted arrow superposed on the airport symbol. What does that superposed arrow on the airport icon mean?

SteveCC, Welcome to the discussion area!
I believe that you are seeing the icon indicating you G5 is acting as a base station. On that G5 open System Preferences->Sharing->Internet and stop Internet sharing.

    Dear One's,
What does it mean .INCLUDE in the table ROOSOURCE?
    Thanks,
    Raj

    Hi,
.Include and .append are used for adding structures to a table. But the difference is when we use .append for adding a structure, the structure cannot be added to another table. But if we use .include, the structure can be added in any number of tables.

  • What does 'ipod cannot be synced. duplicate file name specified' mean?

what does 'ipod cannot be synced. duplicate file name specified' mean?

I'm having the same issue. Old ipod 160 gig worked for years; it crashed. I bought a new "used" ipod. It starts reading all my music and syncs a few songs then crashes. I get the same screen you do about duplicate, etc. Very frustrating. I'm downloaded the new iTunes (not impressed). I've tried unchecking most of my music to see if that would help but it didn't. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files?

I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files? What can be done so that I can either open and see the layers or how can the sender save it in a way that it doesn't "merge" the layers in some way to just one?

Could try saving as tiff provided layers and transparency are chosen at the time of saving. But it's hard to give a definitive answer as it depends on the final usage. For example PSD's tend to work better in applications like In Design in comparison with tiff.

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required
If you do not have that information you will not be able to use the Device.
