What does indexing do?

Just what does indexing do?  I clicked on a photo & asked the program to find a similar photo & the reply was that I would get better results if I indexed first.  Now the crazy part I went to the PSE 10 manual & did a text search but the stupid manual is useless since it doesn't even contain the word 'indexing', the closest you get is a passing mention of 're-indexing'.

If I'm not mistaken, the visual similarity searches also use data contained in the "WaldoData" directory, which has several files in it.

In PSE6 there is no Waldo subfolder, only in my PSE10.

It wouldn't necessarily need a numerical order value.  I don't have any idea how PSE does its Visual Similarity searches, either, but for purposes of discussion, consider this:
If one of the criteria used is "light coloured blob in the center of the image", then all PSE would have to do is store the image IDs of the images that fit that criteria.  If a user uses an image with a light coloured object as the VS search item, PSE would use the index to quickly retrieve those image IDs and display images of, for example, portraits or a boat on the water, etc.
Quite a few years ago, IBM developed a "Query By Image Content" (QBIC) application which is stunning in its capabilities and accuracy.  You can use QBIC at the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia) Web site to search for images in its collection:
http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/fcgi-bin/db2www/qbicSearch.mac/qbic?sel Lang=English
Then I believe the word 'indexing' is slightly inadequate. It is rather  a kind of multicriteria tagging.
I happen to use the visual similarity feature, but I don't use any of the autoanalyzer functions nor face recognition. I suppose the 'Waldo' subfolder was introduced for those automatic functions.

It is finding and putting in order (indexing) all your files so that when you use Spotlight (the magnifying glass icon in the far upper right corner) it will find what you search for instantly, even as you are typing it. The first time it indexes it takes a long time, depending on how much is on your hard drive.

What is indexing and why has it slowed my computer and why does it take 122 hours?

Indexing allows Spotlght to know where everything is on your computer.  It won't take as long as it says, the times it gives are always vastly inflated.

I am still seeing this message (but as a info message) in 3.6.0.1. The test case is a single cache node and a single "client" that is inserting a lot of data. I have like 6 indexes defined (all using POF extractors). One index contains an array of a user type, the others primitive types. One index is sorted the rest not.
Imho the condition causing this should be fixed or, if this is not causing any problems, performance or otherwise, the message be removed - pperation should be undisturbed by messages that has no meaning to the user!

  • What is Laserfiche and what does it do?

What is Laserfiche and what does it do?  Does it integrate with O365? Is it a standalone plan or an add on?

    Hi Amanda,
Laserfiche is a robust enterprise content, document and records management platform with integrated advanced capture solutions and workflow.  Laserfiche is a certified gold partner with Microsoft, fully integrated into the Office suite, including
    Office 365 and SharePoint.
Laserfiche provides a platform for centralized content and records storage - ranging from image files to electronic documents to voice and audio files.  It is truly an enterprise wide content management system.  Very often you will find it coupled
with SharePoint as the back end repository because of the strong workflow designer and engine, which is much easier to use than SharePoint's.
Laserfiche includes advanced capture tools in its product suite that can perform automated data capture from paper records, with index fields completed automatically based on the data extracted.  It is widely know as an integrative middleware solution
as well, and at our company Accelerated Information Systems (disclaimer - we are a Laserfiche reseller and top partner for the North East US) we are able to integrate with ANY other application.  It really is a robust solution that adds features and ease
of use to a powerful SharePoint platform.
As far as your final question, Laserfiche is a stand alone product, but relies heavily on Microsoft technologies as it does manage the content we create through MS Office and every day printing.
Please let me know if you have any other specific questions and I will be more than happy to answer them on this forum thread.

  • What does {tag_image_value} from webapps return when field is empty? How to use javascript to remove div when condition is met.

    Dear all,
As stated in the question, what does {tag_image_value} from webapps return when no image has been uploaded by users. I understand that there is an OnError function that can be called if there isn't any image. However it does not do so.
I am creating a program which will check to see if {tag_image_value} contains an image. If it does not, the error will call an external javascript to remove the div such that it removes any subsequent codes in the later parts of the codes. Below is part of the program:
I have tried to compare the value to NULL, 0, -1 and "" using if-else functions but they do not work. The slideshow wrapper is part of the code from the following theme: 2027 E Colfax Ave Denver
The theme will cycle through the pictures, my purpose is to remove the pictures if the images are not present.
<!------------------------------------------------ Remove picture if not uploaded ------------------------------------------------>

are saved in a custom table. Now, we had a scenario in PROD server wherein certain items are not being
fetched as bypassed but we saved it in the bypassed table. Anyway, below is the select statements:

The first select statement is for Change document header.CDHDR table contains this object class in your case if you change any batch number for any material number  from the transaction for example (MB01) you can trace this .
From CDPOS you can trace which tables affected (EX : MCHA) and the new value(l_zustd ).

  • HT2729 what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    iMessages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
Music library database index (but not the music itself)
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

  • What does manually manage music and videos mean

What does this do or not do?

I didn't find this very helpful.  While the manual technically states what it means, these types of questions are typically looking for context, helpful hints about WHY you would use it and potential issues you might have if you used it or didn't use it.  Your snarkiness doesn't help either.  Some of us are looking for actual help with the entire feature.  So I've pasted what I found in the manual link you posted showed (for iPad 8.1) as well as a better answer I found on Yahoo.
You can also choose to manually manage content from iTunes by selecting that option in the iPad Summary pane. Then you can drag songs or videos from your iTunes library to iPad in iTunes. This is useful if your iTunes library contains more items than can fit on your iPad. Note: If you use iTunes Match, you can manually manage only video.
    https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080210005100AA4pJ6G
It is the best and easiest way to use your ipod. When you manually manage your music you choose what to add and delete from the ipod. You dont have to sync your ipod. When it is on manual you can use your ipod on as many computers and itunes libraries as you want without losing any music off your ipod. You just drag and drop the songs, videos and playlists you want from the itunes library to the ipods name. Right click and delete what you dont want from the main playlists under the ipods name.
Nothing will ever be deleted or added until you direct it and you can safely use it on any computer. If you click manually manage music nothing will change on your ipod as it is now until you physically add or delete things. If you resync with an itunes library later, though, you have to be careful because anything not in that itunes library will be deleted off the ipod. I always keep my ipod manually managed because I use it on several diff computers.
or you just highlight the 20 songs together and drag them in one action...some people are so lazy, lol.  Think if it this way If it is manually managed and you go to your friends house you can use her itunes library which means basically getting music from any other itunes library you want. Not just your own.

  • What does mdadm's sync_action check do?

Obviously, it checks the RAID array you run it on, but I'd like to know more specifics on what it does and does not do. For instance, through some testing and reading of docs, I've deduced that it does *not* do any kind of comparison between data (this is on a RAID-1 mirrored array). This is by design:
RAID (be it hardware or software), assumes that if a write to a disk doesn't return an error, then the write was successful. [...] RAID cannot, and is not supposed to, guard against data corruption on the media. Therefore, it doesn't make any sense either, to purposely corrupt data (using dd for example) on a disk to see how the RAID system will handle that.
    (from https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/ … nd_testing )
(I kind of wish that it *would* do a binary comparison, just to make me feel better... but anyway.)
So, what *does* it do? Does it just do the equivalent of
    dd if=/dev/sdXA of=/dev/null
    dd if=/dev/sdYA of=/dev/null
just to ensure that the drives can read those sectors? And what does it do in case the drive returns a read error? I would expect that to result in a "check failed" message somewhere, but apparently that's not always the case.
During a check on one of my servers, the dmesg showed a bunch of read errors from the first drive, and the SMART log confirms that... but the check succeeded. And strangely, the drive now reads successfully from start to finish, and using dd and diff, I was able to confirm that the "bad" regions on that drive are now readable and binary identical to the good mirror.
I'm guessing what happened is that if mdadm encounters a bad sector while reading, it assumes the drive will swap in one of its spare sectors, and tries to copy the data from the good drive back onto the bad sector, then retries the read of that sector -- if the drive returns a successful read, it means the bad sector was fixed, and mdadm doesn't have to treat it as a problem any more. Is that right? I can't find that in the docs anywhere, and I'd like to know for sure. (Still gonna replace the drive in the mean time.)
    ~Felix.

oohhhhh, that makes sense. I've seen the steps that do the truncate and build indexes and such but I didn't connect that back to the physical data sources. D'uh!
    Thanks!
    -Joe
