What Does iPhone Say After Inserting Non-AT&T SIM Card
Has anyone put in a non-AT&T SIM card in their iPhone? What does it say on the screen? Does it ask you for a code?
Just cross-checking with mine.
You don't need to open the iPhone to remove the SIM. There's a depressed button on the top that you can press with a bent paperclip, and the SIM tray pops right out. Actually, it's something that's recommended to do prior to sending iPhone in for service, if and when necessary. But, SIM cards for third parties are still not supported for use within the iPhone, and I'm sure there's some software or hardware limitations in place to prevent it from being hacked (for the time being).

Iphone 5, after 8.3 update, "no SIM card installed" alert began.
after 8.3 update, my phone alerts me with a "no sim card installed", i reboot my iphone, it works for minutes then same problem, and i'm sure that's caused by the last update.
Your wars with jailbreakers stuff aren't our problem, please throw your updates without crashing our iphones.I am having this same issue. I upgraded a brand new iphone 4, unlocked, never been jailbroken or anything like that, and after i downloaded ios 5 and upgraded the phone to it, i'm getting "SIM not valid. Only compatible SIM cards from a supportted Carrier may be used to activate iphone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card".
No idea what to do....
Any help is welcome! -
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information
what can in do?Well unfortunatly that advice does not always work. I bought a unlocked iphone4 from apple several years ago and went to att on a no contract basis. Six months later the phone crashed while updating the operating system. Apple replaced the phone with a new one. All is fine till I got a iphone5 and gave te phone to my cousin. The phone is now locked to att but att says the IMEI number is not a valid ATT IMEI and therfore cant unlock it. Apple says there is nothing They can or are willing to do so now I am stuck for a 600.00 phone that can't be used.
If anyoun knows a way naround this situation mI would appreciate a heads up. -

After connecting my 3gs phone to itune last night to download items and to get new updates my phone will not work, it says to add a sims card to phone but the sims is already in it. How can I get my phone to work?
Sounds like your iPhone was previously hacked/modified/jailbroken
and the update has relocked it to the original wireless carrier. If that
is the case, only the wireless carrier to which the iPhone is now locked
can unlock it.

Can I purchase an IPhone 5 that is factory unlocked, so that I can insert my t-mobile sim card and use it on my service from the apple store?
Not in the US, at the present time. Apple has not started selling officially unlocked iPhone 5's in the US, & has not announced when they will.

I bought an unlocked Iphone 3GS, I needed to update Ios5 and restored the settings for that which was not authorised for unlocke, but after that iphone is not getting activate and no sim card insatlled error is there. i m using local sim card in Pakistan
You didn't buy an 'unlocked' iPhone 3GS - you bought a 'hacked' one.
Updating to iOS 5 removed the hack and the unofficial unlock.
All you can do is try to find out which network the phone is locked to and ask them if they can unlock it properly.
Otherwise, sell it or throw it away and buy an officially unlocked phone from an official source. -
I want to factory unlock my iphone 4s vodafone.....i am in pakistan now and none of the sim cards are working so i need solution
<Personal Information Edited by Host>Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize the unlock. You will need to contact Vodafone to see if you qualify for an unlock.

Newly-unlocked iPhone 4 will not activate with new sim card
I recently bought a used iPhone 4 from a friend and brought it with me to Cambodia. The friend initited a request to AT&T to unlock the phone so I could use it, and the request was granted by AT&T. She forwarded me the email with instructions, but I have not been able to successfully complete the unlock. The instructions say:
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
Ensure a SIM card is inserted into your iPhone.
Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.
When I try this, it refuses to recognize that there is a SIM card installed.
The instructions don't say it has be any particular SIM card, just "a SIM card" so I'm using my local SIM. I also tried a second SIM with the same result.
Any ideas why this isn't working or what I should try next?I can't even get to an option that asks me that question. I don't want any of the data on the phone now, as that is my friend's data, but I can't even get to a place where I can delete her data or anything else.
All I get is the "activation" screen options (choose language, country, wifi network) and then the error message that "Activation Failed - please insert a SIM card."
I'm not sure if that clarifies exactly what you're asking, My apologies if it doesn't, and try asking me again. -
HT1267 i restored my iphone and itunes is not recognizing the sim card why?
okay im having problems with my iphone, it was disabled and i went to itunes to restore the phone, now that it has itunes is not recognizing my sim card that was originally in the phone during the disablement and the restoring, so i have a phone that says no service but has a sim card in it. what do i do
iPhones require a SIM card for activation. The SIM does not need to be active, but it must be for the carrier the device is locked to.
