I've been trying for a week to get some indication of what Adobe Connect costs. Why this hidden away in a secret fault? I want to set up a trial use but not if I have no idea what the price is. Can someone ballpark this? Up to 100 people, two of them on webcam and 98 participants via text chat.

Well, that all depends a lot of choices!
1. If you are a corporation, you get pricing based on quantity of con-current users or on a named host license basis
2. If you are with a government agency, then pricing is determined by the US GSA process.

Understand, Adobe Connect is an enterprise product not usually sold to individuals but targeted to companies and government agencies. Adobe Connect comes in three flavors that you choose:
1. On-Premise - you buy the Adobe Connect Server and run it on your own hardware on top of Windows Server, you buy concurrent end user licenses as well to match how many people will be on the server at the same time
2. Hosted - Adobe Hosted, Partner hosted (ConenctSolutions or Amazon AWS) - You pay for the number of concurrent licenses for the year or multiple years or you pay for Named Accounts.
3. Managed Service - Adobe manages the server on your location or at a cloud provider service. You pay based on what you desire.
Another way to purchase is through the major telephone audio providers like PGi. Intercall, MeetingOne, Avaya, etc. Mnay of them sell Adobe Connect along with their telephone audio bridge solutions.
All of this depends on a lot of factors and Adobe Connect Enterprise Sales reps as well as partners and distributors can quote this based on the factors.
I suspect based on the information you provided that you are an individual and desire up to 100 simultaneous users at one time. The use of webcams or chat is irrelevent to cost as those features are native to Connect and to all participants. I would suggest you take a look at the individual pricing page mentioned above and decide if you want an annual plane, monthly plan or pay-per-use. There are calculators there to help you see the different prices. Of course that is for the Adobe Hosted option. The pricing is not hidden way. It just complicated because of the variopus options and the quantity. Government agencies pay a different price than corporations do and Universities also have a completely different pricing model. This is common in Enterprise wide type software sales.

I know this may seem random, but I was wondering how much does a Macbook really cost to make? I was asking myself this when I was shopping around dell.com. They have a XPS 12" Notebook Core 2 Duo for 1200. I understand that it is a windows based computer yada yada, but the specs on the comp are double everything the Macbook has. Reading your post, I wonder if you think Apple shouldn't charge what they do for having a total system that works. The market will bear what the market will bear. It is a fact that there are exponentially more windows users than Mac, so obviously, most people are willing to sacrifice performance for cost. In the case of Mac users, they tend to see a value in having a laptop that actually works, and they're willing to pay more for it. Why shouldn't Apple charge more for that?

I would like to set up Grid Control and Application Management Pack for E-Business Suite to monitor my E-Business environment.
In the days before Grid Control when it was just OEM this would be free. As the OEM basic install was free with the DBMS and the Oracle Apps pack was free with Oracle Apps.
Does any one have any information on this?

What does cost mean in execution plan?

What does a cost increase actually mean compared to the decrease of data that has to be processed?
More details:
I have 3 tables:
- users
- transaction types
- user transactions
I'm joining user transactions with transaction types for a particular user and aggregating some result from the transaction type table.
Originally there was no index on the user transactions table containing both the user_id (on which is filtered) and the transaction id. This lead to a TABLE ACCESS and joining a lot of data for nothing. I created an index to contain both fields so that no more TABLE ACCESS is needed. It indeed reduced the amount of data to be merged and aggregated considerably, but the COST of the query went up! This I don't understand. (the query itself did not seem to take more/less time).

when oracle parses and optimises a query it creates several execution plans and assigns a cost to each plan.
It then uses this cost to compare these plans.
But you can't use this cost as an indication of how "heavy" a query is, nor can you compare the costs between different queries.
It is only a value used internally by oracle.
