What does it mean: "Calendar was created by Mail"?

I upgraded to the latest version of iCal. Now, when I try to input a new event, I get the message: " Calendar was created by Mail. You can not add an event to a Mail calendar. Does any one know what this means and what I need to do to change it so I can add events to iCal from my computer? By the way, I sync with my iPhone and am able to add events from my Phone which then show up on my calendar on my computer. - James

Greetings James,
This suggests you have a "Read Only" calendar in iCal. Look for a calendar on the left hand side of iCal which you don't recognize and don't use. Once you locate it you can click on it once to highlight it and then go to Edit > Delete.

Check which calendar you are trying it put this event on, then put it on the correct one.

I was chatting with someone for over a month and suddenly he disappeared. I did some checking and I know I am not blocked. I have another Skype account so I used that to look him up on Search and found his ID no longer exists. What does this mean? Was his account deleted?

Finding a pirated app -
When a stranger's Apple ID appears on your Mac in conjunction with an update for an app that you have never installed, you have a pirated app on your Mac. This pirated app has been cracked with the MAS receipt from a free app acquired by the person whose Apple ID you see. The pirated app is not the app asking to be updated.
You may not have realized that it was a pirated app when you installed it. You may have believed that it was a trail version or a "free" version.
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.

This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

On the email account's settings (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tapping on the account on the right), go into it's outgoing SMTP settings and try putting in your email name and password (they might currently show as 'optional')

The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down. Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
Reminder: create full backup before you upgrade OS

Try this.
Check your username and password in the outgoing mail server setting. Fill it in even of it says that it's optional.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>choose the email account>account name, tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email username and password and see if that works for you.
