  • HT1710 What does it mean if the blue screen appears and stays on with no further activity?

My disk failed. Apple store replaced it with a disk with OS X. I tried to load from valid time machine backup. eventually I got a blue screen.
What does this mean and what should I do?
Here is more of this story:
When I picked up my computer after the disk was replaced, I was told I could do a time machine recovery. After about 6 hours the recovery said it had less than a minute to go and was transferring "your" network settings. at 9 hours it said the same thing.
I rebooted DVD to try to reload MAC OS X but it crashed with "INSTALL FAILED  MAC OS X could not be installed on your computer Click restart and try again"
I did but it would not boot.
I reloaded the disk utility and and it showed no problems but the next OS X install failed (hung).
I then wrote zeros to all the disk (could not find a reformat command). This went tith out error.
I restarted the OSX install and it appeared to work.
I started the install from time machine again and it hung in the same place. (less than a minute remaining. The completion bar had a sliver of white at the end but was mostly blue)

It just means it's hungup just before completing, we can get more info with Verbose boot...
    CMD+v keys on bootup...

  • What does it mean when on my desktop appear the error in multi language to restart my mac?, What does it mean when on my desktop appear the error in multi language to restart my mac?

Hello! Just wanted to ask what does it mean more exactly when the error in muti language to restart my mac appears to my desktop ?

    Hello ioanaroxy,
In rare situations, your Mac may spontaneously restart, turn off, display a message "You need to restart your computer…", or become unresponsive, indicating a kernel panic has occurred.
I recommend reviewing the following article for more information about kernel panics and how to troubleshoot kernel panics.

  • What does it mean when your whole i phone screen turns green

What does it mean when your whole iphone 5 screen turns green

It means that you jailbroke your iPhone with redsn0w. There are several known methods to fixing this issue:
    1. Plug it into your computer and restore
    2. Plug it into your computer, then hold the power button for about 6 seconds
    3. Hold the power button and the home button to restart it. As soon as it turns on, plug it into your computer and wait
    4. Time. Sometimes it fixes itself over time.
I would suggest refraining from jailbreaking your device next time. I know it tempting to do so, but if you want to root your phone or play with emulators, I would suggest an android device. Btw, iOS 7 looks promising for the Apple community. Keep your ears peeled this week during WWDC.

  • What does it mean when I see the file with the question mark on my screen?

What does it mean when I see a file with a question mark on the screen?

Means no bootable system can be found or required system files are missing or damaged. Reinstall OS X.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • What does it mean when you computer crashes and when you turn it back on it shows you a blank blue screen with a little folder and a question mark in the middle?

What does it mean when you computer crashes and when you turn it back on it shows you a blank blue screen with a little folder and a question mark in the middle? It's a old imac from 1997.

I don't have original discs that it came with.
Then you still can use the second option with the keyboard combo I posted, called "resetting the PRAM."
Also when you way hold the c key down do you mean turn computer off and turn back on holding the c key?
Yes, or you can simply restart. As you don't have the CDs, this isn't on the plate any more.
The internal backup battery is not expensive and, in most iMacs is user-replacable. If yours has a tray-loading optical drive like this one:
it takes a major teardown to replace the internal battery. If this is the case, you'd be better off to leave the computer plugged in all the time; that eliminates the main reason for having a working battery.
If it has a slot-loading optical drive like this one:
things are much easier. The battery is visible through the RAM access door on the bottom of the computer case. The manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iMacG3_2000UserManual.PDF
has sketches of how to access the RAM and therefore the backup battery. Unfortunately, the pdf on the manual goes up sideways on-screen and the RAM instructions are pretty deep into the manual. It's probably easier to scroll (for a while) to the section on adding RAM and print the applicable pages.
When you work on the battery, some sort of non-conductive pliers or large tweezer or forceps help unless you have tiny fingers. Make sure to note the polarity of the old battery and install the new one in the same orientation.
The battery itself is readily available. If price is no oblect, you can get it for a small rasom from Radio Shack Store ("Tandy" outside the US) as part number 23-026.
Online, they are dirt-cheap even after adding shipping. I buy backup batteries form this outfit:
3.6v Newer Technology Lithium 1/2 AA PRAM Computer Clock Battery

  • What does it mean when there is an I tunes symbol on the screen with a charging cable underneath that?

What does it mean when there is an I tunes symbol on the screen with a charging cable underneath that?

Turn on the computer. Take the charging cable and connect one end to the bottom of the Touch and the other to a USB on your computer (back of the computer if this is a desktop computer). iTunes should open automatically and will probably give you a message it has detected an iPod in Recovery mode. Follow the onscreen steps from there and Restore it from any backup on the computer.

  • What does it mean when the screen flickers and flashes after 20min. of working fine? I have a Macbook Pro 17" screen and it's the late 2008 model

I am having trouble with a Mac book Pro 17 inch late 2008 Notebook.
When I turn it on and booted up it goes to desktop and everything is fine for about 20 minutes then after 20 minutes the screening starts rapidly flashing and flickering and everything on the screen locks up including the mouse becomes frozen.
What does it mean when this happens? Is it an issue with the monitor screen or is it some other internal hardware issue?

What does it mean when I turn on my mac and a picture of a file comes up and it won't turn on? I hold the button and turn it off and try again and sometimes it goes on and other times the file comes back on.... do I have a virus? What should I do?

No, you don't have a virus, but if that folder has a flashing '?', it means your Mac can't find its' system:

  • What does it mean when it says "ipad has lost it's pairing"

what does it mean when it says "ipad has lost it's pairing"

If you are getting that message when you try to sync your iPad, eject the iPad, quit iTunes, restart your computer, reset the iPad and then try to sync again.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, just try using a different USB port.
