What does it mean when boxes appear around commands on the ipad

Occasioally on my ipads, framed boxes appear around all the commands.  They won't let me swipe, I have to click on them twice.  Why does this happen and how do I make it stop?

Try triple-click on Home button (do it quick).

  • HT201299 what does it mean when you get this message on the Iphone? "online maps consume data traffic"

what does it mean when you get this message on the Iphone? "online maps consume data traffic"

That means that if you use online maps, it will consume data. If you're on WiFi, no worries. If you are on cellular data, then it will eat into your cellular data plan.

  • What does it mean when it said SIM not provisioned , my iPad 3 is not connect with wifi

What does it mean when it said SIM is not provisioned , my ipad3 is not connect to wifi , Please help

Does your iPad 3 have a SIM slot?
Does it have a SIM in it?
Has your SIM been activated by a cellular carrier?
It sounds as if your iPad, which as you say is not connected to WiFi, is trying to connect to the internet but failing.

  • What does "Synchronize" mean when it appears in the history steps?

I think this is new in V5  because I've never seen it before.  What does the word "synchronize" mean when it appears in a history step?  I do not recall the exact phrase because I cannot reproduce the conditions under which it appeared.  Having said that I do not want it to happen again because it caused me to have to delete and re-import  a whole batch of photos (in order to start over).
I was editing some newly imported photos when I began to notice this "synchronize" message appearing in their history steps, and that edits were being applied to the wrong photos even though "auto sync" was NOT in effect. (only one photo was selected).  In any event, auto sync does not cause this message (I just tested it).  Does anyone know what function might have caused this?
(It is difficult to search the web for this issue because all the hits relate to auto-sync)

The history step says what, exactly?
I find a "Synchronize Settings" history entry but not a "Synchronize"

  • What does it mean when there's a _ at the beginning of a username?

    Example: _softwareupdate
    Thanks.

OS X started using _ on system groups a few releases back; that convention started with 10.5.
I'd start your own thread for the groups question.  As for any group limit, haven't seen that one with OS X; if you're hitting some limit with groups or ACLs or a tool you're using, you'll want to post up some details of the version (10.8?), the volume structure used the output of the id command and the ls -ale@ for the ACL.
The local root account has twenty groups, so I'm not sure what you're seeing with that limit.
Alternatively, you can log a bug directly with Apple asking for the limit to be increased.

  • What does "maximum " mean when it appears onscreen

I have been using Pages to take notes for classes for a while now. Today the word "maximum" started appearing overtop of all my documents, new and old. It's very distracting and multiple google searches provide no information as what this is supposed to mean, nor any idea of how to get rid of it. The word itself visually resembles the word count feature when it is turned on.

The history step says what, exactly?
I find a "Synchronize Settings" history entry but not a "Synchronize"

  • What does it mean when you get a pic of the cable on the sreen

I can't get my apple tv to work....it shows a cable and a apple tv symbol and now the screen is blank. "No Signal" is displayed. I've tried unplugging the power, changing the HDMI cable, and changing the TV. Anyone have any helpful feedback?

If have a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV. Note: If you do not disconnect the power cable before connecting the micro USB cable, you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list.
Connect one end of a micro USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports.
Apple TV (3rd generation) only: Reconnect the power cable to your Apple TV.
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

  • HT203434 what  does it  mean when i  connect to  recharge and a microphone appears with lightening   sign just  above  it?

what does it mean  when i  turn on my mini wi fi i pad and it shws  a microphone and  lightening  coming out  from it  and  nothing  else is able to be brought up??

I think that you are seeing the lightning bolt and the lightning connector on the screen. That means that you have to plug the iPad into a wall socket using the power adapter becuse the battery is too low to charge using your computer.
Look at the photos on this website and not the one under the Connect to Power heading.

  • HT4199 What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and the bars come up but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and it show I'm on my wifi, but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says, Safari cannot open this page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

When you click on the WiFi network name, have you also provided the password for accessing the network?  You should get a dialogue box asking you for the security information the first time you connect.
If you are not able to connect, you might want to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.
Then go back to Settings > WiFi and select your network name again and make sure the security information is now entered correctly.
If you still cannot connect, power down the router, wait a few minutes, power up the router, with the iPad powered down the whole time, and after the router has had several minutes to stabilize power up the iPad.  See if it now connects correctly.

Means no bootable system can be found or required system files are missing or damaged. Reinstall OS X.

    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
