What does make a distro heavy ?

I tried to show a friend the system requirements of some distros. i installed them on a pentium 3 1GHz 256 M ram comp
One of the distros tested was Mandriva one from which i am writing now
It works quite slow and not very responsive. This is a heavy distro on a not new comp
It used up all the ram and about 100 M swap
CPU is on 20 % load when system is idle
I tried to check what exactly in the distro makes it heavy so i opened KDE process manager (its like Top but graphical) and watched
There are allmost no Mandriva - specific heavy processes. Its the same programs as in Arch on Gentoo or Knoppix but they eat up more ram and resources. Why do they behave differently here ?
What may take all this 20 % CPU on idle ? the processes in the process manager sum up to much less
How can programs actually be so heavy ? The panel on the bottom of the screen 14 M. Some notification daemon 7 M. Power saving applet 10 M. The process manager itself 14 M. Even daemons look oversized
Its even worse in the vmsize (grey background) column. The panel there is 45 M

The number i quoted in the first place (panel = 14 M) is the resident size
In the screen shot the grey column is vmsize and the one to the right of it is vmrss

Yes, system preferences>iCloud> only thing shows up is find my iphone.
I think I found the problem. even though it only list >>>>iPhone<<<<, it still found my "laptop" when I clicked on it.
As long as I have wifi turned on is the trick I think.

On the T400, what does the ThinkVantage button do?
How can I make it work? When I press it now, nothing happens. The original windows operating system that came with this computer is no longer installed. I got it without an operating system and I put Linux Ubuntu on it. This computer may not even have the original hard drive. The hard drive on it now is only 40GB.

I did write: Lenovo provides the ThinkVantage software as part of the drivers and applications that are installed on top of Windows.
I did also write: Lenovo never releases any ThinkPad drivers and applications for Linux.

Try a soft-reset and see if it works after your phone has restarted (it seems ot have fixed the error for a number of people on here) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

Did a hard reset and when i asked time capsule to do a backup it tells

"Time Machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk image is already in use"

It just means that you want to reset it for some technical reason by holding down the lock and home button for a few seconds till it shuts downs and the apple logo pops up which then you let go. Note: nothing on your phone will be deleted.

Try this.
Check your username and password in the outgoing mail server setting. Fill it in even of it says that it's optional.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>choose the email account>account name, tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email username and password and see if that works for you.

I have scanned most of my pictures into the Photo gallery set up. I was trying to make a slide show for my family . My side and than my husbands side. I had one set of old pictures completed as a slide show. The second set is almost complete. I have lost most of the first slide show pictures. The second set I cannot finish adding the remainder of the pictures . A box appears and says "error number 9". I don't know what happened. What does this mean? How did the pictures get lost from the slide show?
Do you know the amount of hours it took to do the scanning? Vista doesn't make it easy. One picture at a time.

every time i start up my macbook pro a box pops up on the home screen that says "Completer wants to make changes. You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. Some of the items listed in the article may be absent.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.
