What does protected mean

i am trying to download my music on a usb drive and put these songs on my car stereo. Some of my music says it is protected and i cannot transfer them. They are all songs downloaded at the itunes store.

Prior to April 2007 iTunes sold tracks with DRM - Digital Rights Management in a 128k protected AAC format. These can only be transferred to Apple devices and played on authorized computers. DRM for iTunes music purchases was phased out over the next 2 years but you must still have some protected tracks. At one stage these could be upgraded for a nominal fee, otherwise you can burn to CD and re-rip, but you'll probably lose some quality in the round trip.

  • Says my computer is no longer protected and that I need to update, but says that my computer is no longer compatable, what does this mean and how do I fix it?

A warning pops up and says that Firefox is no longer protected, and that I need to upgrade. But then, I'm told that the upgrades are not compatible with my computer. What does this mean, and how to I get the updates?
    Thanks

  • Music I purchased on I Tunes is not available when I open ITunes in I Movie.  I Movie says those files are "protected" and not accessible.  What does that mean and can I change them to "unprotected" so I can use them in IMovie?

Most of the music that I purchased on I Tunes I bought and downloaded on my old I Mac which I replaced with this I Mac about 9 months ago.  When I"m using I Movie on this I Mac and try to open I Tunes tab in I Movie, most of the files are not accessible because I Movie says those fields are protected. What does that mean and can I change those files to unprotected so they show up in my music in IMovie?
    This I Mac is OS X version 10.9.5 Maverick, 2.7GHz Intel Core 15 processor, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory.

Your older iTunes music purchases included DRM software to prevent sharing.

For some money you can get it removed and get a better quality file to boot.

Hello all. I've been hearing this terminology used loosely for years. I think I know what it means, but would like to be clear. What does protect circuit mean? What does the term 'switched to protect' mean? Thanks,

Protected refers to the redundancy of the circuit.

  • What does it mean to compress a file?

does it mean it will take up less room on my disk and is there anything bad that can happen by compressing a file?

You're talking about lossless compression. See
    <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_compression#Lossless>
does it mean it will take up less room on my disk
    It depends on the file.
An MP3 or JPEG file contains data which has already been subjected to lossy compression. Consequently, compressing such a file will save very little space on the disk. This saving usually comes from compressing metadata (such as MP3 tags or EXIF tags), which don't take much space to begin with. Under certain circumstances, such a compressed file may even be bigger than the original.
By contrast, text files can take considerable compression. An example is the MS Word .docx format. A .docx file is actually a (compressed) zip archive containing a hierarchy of mostly marked-up text files. Such an archive, when expanded, can take 10 times as much space.
is there anything bad that can happen by compressing a file?
"Anything" is rather a large word. The two chief issues you have to be aware of are password protection and compatibility. If the compressed file is password-protected and you lose the password, you may never again gain access to it. If a compression format becomes obsolete, you may no longer find the software able to expand the archive.

  • What does Private mean at the bottom of my iPhone screen when viewing my windows in Safari?

Private appears at the bottom of my iPhone screen while viewing open windows in Safari. What does it mean?

Touching Private will switch ON/Off private browsing mode.
    Private Browsing
Private Browsing in iOS protects private information and blocks some websites from tracking your behavior. Safari doesn't remember the pages you visit, your search history, or your AutoFill information.
Note: While Private Browsing is enabled, the Safari bars appear black or dark.

  • In mail. What does it mean to to turn off on 'Load remote images?'

In mail. What does it mean to turn off or on 'Load Remote Images?'

    From Mail's help:
    Show or hide remote images
Some messages may use HTML to include remote images that, when retrieved from the sender’s servers, reveal information about your Mac. You can protect your privacy by not loading remote images contained in messages you receive. In addition, when you don’t load remote images, messages display more quickly.
Choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Viewing.
Select or deselect the “Display remote images in HTML messages” checkbox to show or hide the images.
If you chose to hide remote images, a banner is displayed across the top of messages that contain remote images, asking whether you want to load them for viewing.
If Mail detects that a message is junk mail, HTML images aren’t displayed.

  • TS1372 i have an error 1434? what does this mean?

i have an error 1434? what does this mean?

    Hi Ceecee,
Find My iPhone is a generic term that is used for this feature regardless of whether it is turned on on an iPad or an iPhone.
If you deleted your iCloud account on your iPad, and have not signed back on to iCloud, then the Find My iPhone feature is turned off, and your device is not protected nor can it be tracked if it is stolen.
Sign back into iCloud on your iPad, and go to Settings>iCloud to turn Find My iPhone back on to remedy this situation, if you wish.
    Cheers,

Well, like I said, Internet recovery gave me this result after 30 second or so saying: apple.com/support -21 02D. So, what does it mean ?

It may be a router problem or  a problem was with the type of WiFi protection used.
About OS X Recovery, you must use the WPA or WPA2 on your WiFi for Internet Recovery.

What does this mean? Is this dangerous? Why is Apple here?
    - Any possibly reason behind this, I would like to know :

Do you have a imap email account with some relationship to apple (icloud)?
After some more research I think you do:
    iCloud: Mail server information
Incoming server is imap.mail.me.com. If I ping imap.mail.me.com it says it's IP is 17.172.34.200 which is in the range you see above.
So should you be worried?  Guess not if you trust icloud and apple mail servers.

  • TS4006 I lost my iPad. I located it using the Find My iPad feature. I got an e-mail from Apply stating it had been found. What does this mean? Does this mean someone used it, tried to use it or what?

When you say an email from Apply, do you mean that the sender is named "Apply"?  If so, what is their full email address (e.g. [email protected])?

  • Newly downloaded version icon won't drag into Applications folder because I "don't have sufficient privileges" - what does that mean & how do I fix it?!

I opened a new window in Firefox, which was still open from last night. I saw the notice:
    URGENT!
Your version of Firefox is no longer protected against online attacks.
Get the upgrade - it’s fast and free!
So, I clicked on the download which ran fine. At step 3, drag the Firefox icon to the Applications icon, a pop up said I didn't have sufficient privileges to do that.
What does this mean and how do I fix it?! Thank you,
    Allison

    You're welcome

  • What does label mean on step 3 of 1-click?

When in 1-Click for orderinng photos, what does label mean for step 3 under shippingg address?

    Hi DougS,
You are right, it is "LM", which stands for Link Master device. On the other hand, you can also change the device type to Basic Device by choosing right-click menu item "Change Device Type" in NI-FBUS Configurator 3.1 version.
To answer your last question: Yes, National Instruments has been supporting this product all along; in fact, the latest version of NI-FBUS Configurator is 3.1, which supports off-line configuration and supports many new interfaces like PCI-FBUS, PCMCIA-FBUS S2 and HSE/H1 linking device.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any question on NI fieldbus products. You can just send e-mail to "[email protected]", we'll be happy to help you out.

  • "Choose Conversion Destination" what does this mean?

On a couple of CD's I've bought recently, I get the message "Choose Conversion Destination" when trying to import them. What does this mean? A web search reveals nothing.

Some newer CDs have a form of copy protection included that 'hides' the CD audio from a computer, included on the CD are Windows media files. These need to be converted to something iTunes/iPod can handle. This may or may not be what you are getting.
