What does question mark mean?

After I installed InDesign or Creative Suite, there is a question mark on the icon.
I had upgraded my MacBook. I did a data transfer. I reloaded PS, that worked fine
I reloaded InDesign. and that does not work.

do not transfer/migrate adobe products.
properly install them.
at this point, uninstall, clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) then install the cc desktop app, Download Adobe Creative Cloud apps | Free Adobe CC trial
use the desktop app to install your adobe programs.

  • What does the folder with a question mark mean?

When I power on my black Macbook a white screen appears with a folder with a question mark flashing. what does the folder with a question mark mean? I just replaced the hard drive. When I put the install disc in the cd drive makes a very loud whirring noise then eventually the disc pops back out. Any ideas?

    You will need to reinstall:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues, obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

  • What does it all mean?  Help! Mail error message!

The mailbox “~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/Sent Messages.mbox” is currently locked by “(null)” on host “c-24-20-121-133.hsd1.or.comcast.net”. If you open a mailbox that already is in use, you may damage its contents.
What does it all mean? It's just started popping up every once in while and I can't decipher it.........

OK. This is going to be a tough one.
First of all, even if you don't understand what the error message says, you can see that it refers to a mailbox called Sent Messages.mbox that's located in ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/, so my question was whether you had similar problems with other mailboxes besides Sent.
Second, that mailbox is used by Apple Mail, you posted in a forum dedicated to discuss Apple's Address Book & Mail issues, and everything seems to indicate that you were actually using Apple Mail when you encountered the problem. So what does Outlook Express have to do with all of this?

  • What does "Owners Enabled" mean in Disk Utility

    Hi -
Not an emergency - I'm not having any issues at this time - but a matter of curiosity.
I have 5 Firewire drives hooked into my G5 and only the main HD and the Time Machine drive say "Yes" next to "Owners Enabled" in Disk Util. The other externals indicate "No". What does Owners Enabled mean. should I endeavor to make them all to say Yes?
    Thanks,
    j2

    Hello Josh2000,
Check out this older thread for more help and information. It should be able to answer your questions. Basically it has to do with permissions and whether or not they are enabled on a particular volume or not.

  • Hello, What does Kurler Klash mean? Not sure why an error in posting. has occured.

Hello, What does Kruler Klash mean? Not sure why an error in posting occured.

I ended up figuring out a solution, but I'll get to that in a sec.
To answer your question, I converted the .wmv file in a program called Media Converter (available in the App store), and converted it to an h.264 file (then later to a .mov file, and then to an .mpg). I could view the file, and work with it in projects, but any project I tried to output with any version of said file, would result in the afor mentioned message, with the same results in FCPX (and Compressor 4 as well).  I tried multiple frame rates, resolutions, files types, re-converting the file, all with no luck.  My impression from said experiments, and reading other discussions was that it was a corrupt file.
Then I got frisky...and a little desperate. I brought the converted file (the .wmv to .mov) into Motion 4... and an export worked first try.  So I exported a pro-res file from Motion 4, and used that file in the already built Motion 5 project, and voila!
So, who knows what that means in real terms, as for the whats and whys.

  • What does "Wi-Fi" Mean?

My Subject line _is_ my question:  "What does 'Wi-Fi' Mean?"
I have my own guess:  "Wireless Fidelity".  Synonyms of Fidelity are Truth & Reliability.  [No, I will not discuss Politics!  :-) ]

    The name[edit]
The term Wi-Fi, commercially used at least as early as August 2000,[17] was coined by a brand-consulting firm called Interbrand Corporation. The Wi-Fi Alliance had hired Interbrand to determine a name that was "a little catchier than 'IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence'".[18][19][20] Phil Belanger, a founding member of the Wi-Fi Alliance who presided over the selection of the name "Wi-Fi," also stated that Interbrand invented Wi-Fi as a play on words with Hi-Fi (high fidelity), and also created the Wi-Fi logo.
The Wi-Fi Alliance initially used the advertising slogan, "The Standard for Wireless Fidelity",[18] for Wi-Fi but later removed the phrase from their marketing. Despite this, some documents from the Alliance dated 2003 and 2004 still contain the term Wireless Fidelity.[21][22] There was no official statement related to the dropping of the term.
The yin-yang Wi-Fi logo indicates the certification of a product for interoperability.[21]
Non-Wi-Fi technologies intended for fixed points such as Motorola Canopy are usually described as fixed wireless. Alternative wireless technologies include mobile phone standards such as 2G, 3G or 4G.

  • What does this message mean Charging is not supported with this device?

What does this message mean Charging is not supported with this device?

You've gotten 2 good answers already, but there's a key assumption in both that you got the message when connecting the iPhone to some other device. If this is the case you can get an adapter in the Apple online store that will allow charging from older devices.
If, however, this message appears when you are not connected to anything the problem is dirt or moisture in the dock connector at the bottom of the phone. Clean it with a dry toothbrush or air blast.

Reboot your machine make sure Aperture doesn't start (as Lion is liable to do) and try it.
