What does "remove target" do in Grid Control?

I have some targets that got created during agent installation that aren't real databases. I was wondering what removing the target does. Does it just remove the meta data about the target or if the target is a database will it try to delete the database? Does it modifiy the listener.ora file?

It only deregisters the target and it won't show up in GC.
For e.g. if you remove a database, you won't be able to manage it in Grid Control. It will NOT drop the database on your managed target.

  • What does the message "Another program has control of HP imaging device mean"?  I get this when I am trying to scan.

What does the message "another program ha control of HP imaging mean when I am trying to scan something. How do i correct it?

You may need to ask HP. I had the same issue with a networked (via ethernet) home HP multi-function. Sometimes the only way to get it to scan was to completely disconnect it from the network and connect it to only one Mac with a USB cable. Even that did not alwatys work.
Eventually, Apple started pushing out HP printer updates via Software Update. One of those finally made that error message to go away.
So run Software Update and see it there are new drivers that Apple made avaialble.

  • Removing database target in EM Grid Control

Under targets/databases there is a button 'remove'
for selected database instance. What does it mean,
just removing the database from EM repository,
when I want no more to manage it by grid,
or will it delete whole database selected like deleting database
    by dbca?

It will only remove DB details from EM repository.

  • Batch remove all default policys on all targets monitored by Grid Control.

    Hi all,
I have been searching for a way on how to remove all default policy's that are attached to the target after they have been added into the Grid Control.
I have been trying with monitoring templates, but without any luck. Yes it changes values but it does not remove non template listed policy's.
There must be a way to do this, without manually do it on all 400+ targets.
    All ideas of interest.
    Best regz,
    /Robban

    Nice it worked just fine.
    Thanks for the input.
Dont know why I didn't think of disabling the policy's, but i guess that i goy snowed in on the removal part.
Also ran into a new problem. (Unable to apply a monitoring template to a group with more then 100 targets)
Found the solution on metalink: Note:455279.1
Its a bug and there is a OneOff for it: "Patch 5573244"
After applying that patch it worked fine.
    Best regz,

  • Not able to configure database instance on target host in Grid Control

I can see all database instances on a target in GridControl and when I tried to configure database instance, it fails with the following error.
    Error
    oracle.sysman.emSDK.emd.comm.CommException: java.net.UnknownHostException: <dbinstance name>
Could somebody tell me how to troubleshoot this issue (like logs for more info for this error)
    thanks

    Hi
I am also facing the same issue. My Grid is 10.2.0.5 version. With agentca I could able to see the database of this target on grid but their status show pending.
When I try to addthem manually it give me below error.
Error communicating with the agent. Exception message - oracle.sysman.emSDK.emd.comm.CommException: java.io.IOException.

  • Exactly what does "Remove Disk" in Time Machine do?

I am concerned that my current TM disk is having issues. I would like to use another drive to make a TM backup but I am not ready to toss the relationshop the current disc has with my system.
Will "Remove Disk" temporarily dis-able the current TM drive as a TM drive?
Or are the implications of "Remove Disk" far more far-reaching than that?
    thank you,

    Yes.

  • What does "Removing unused objects" mean?

Why do we continue to get this message when we try to save one specific document?

This is optimization feature. PDF consist of various objects, some of which you see and others are purely for the PDF processing. Since there are many programs that create PDFs with varying degrees of expertise there maybe objects that are created "just in case needed" but not used. These objects can make the PDF very large so removing them is  beneficial. Sometimes these objects are created or duplicated when PDFs are combined and the embedded type fonts come to mind.

  • What does it mean when my ipad controls itself

I go on Facebook or twitter and it starts controlling it self not clicking where I click, I've tried delete them but it still works after I renown load them

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Unfortunately, at this point, you must restore the device before you can move on. There is nothing you can do to avoid it now.

  • What does "system/library/care services" file control in the system

My Imac keeps locking up on me. I ran disc repair and it repaired every thing but the "system/library/ core services file" and said it has been modified and it will not repair it. could this be my lock up problem? and if so how do I fix it.   Help

Core Services is exactly that: the inner, most essential parts of the OS.
Did you Repair the DISK, or just repair Permissions? The latter is not very effective at fixing problems.
Make sure you haven't installed anything that might be causing the lock-up, and uninstall it. Check the log messages in Console.app in the Utilities folder. Look for any messages at the time of the lock that might be relevant.

  • What does the iview's master language control?

I understand this is useful for translating iview titles and such, but will it have effect other than for that purpose?
    Scenario:
    1. I have created iviews 1-5 with master language Norwegian and placed these on a page also with master language Norwegian.
    2. We need to create a similar page for Sweden, BUT they only need to see iviews 1-3, AND we need to change the folder paths set in the KM iviews. A simple translation is therefore not enough.
    3. Two roles are created. One for each language.
    Question:
When copying the iviews and pages I cannot change the master language. Will this cause problems for our Swedish users? (remember: no translation, only copies of iviews are displayed)
    Thanks
    Henning

    Hi Henning,
you can find a description of the master-language here: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/f5/eb50360e6a11d7b84900047582c9f7/frameset.htm.
As long as you don't translate the iViews (via Translation-Tool) e.g. the iView-Title will be diplayed in Norwegian even for Swedish users
    Hope this helps

don't know wherther we have the grid control or not
??? how can i check that ?? What are you looking for exactly? What does "do we have the grid control" mean?
Did you download and install this?
A "default" install comes with three Oracle homes, with directories db10g, oms10g and agent10g in the 'basedir'. Kinda hard to miss...
With proper environment setup, you could try
    $ emctl status oms
To manage Targets (as called in EM terms), you would install a Management Agent on each host to start monitoring hosts, listeners, databases, application servers, oc4j instances, and other types of targets. You "add hosts" via addition of agents.
And one more thing , i have the oracle 817 databases
, in need to register that database into the GRID .
Can any one send me the proper doc. for 817 to
install into grid control db.No need to send anything, the documentation is available here on OTN (look in the top menu "shortcuts", Documentation -> Enterprise Manager).
There are several options (version dependent of course) available for deploying agents. But you need a OMS + Repository first.
Further discussion probably belongs in the dedicated Enterprise Manager.

  • Working with hrefs, how does the target page know what to do?

I'm working with a converted ND app.
I have an href in a tiledView, which when clicked will take you to a
detail page for the record. I see where in the creation of the HREF,
it links together the model info from the source with the target:
    =============================================================
    hr_openTicketDetailDescr.addSourceTargetPair(
    new CommandSourceTargetPair(CommandSourceTargetPair.SQL_WHERE_TYPE,
    do_earsSchemaModel.class,
    "do_earsSchema.ARADMIN_ENTERPRISE_SOLUTIONS_REQUEST_REQUEST_ID",
    CommandSourceTargetPair.DISPLAY_FIELD_TYPE,
    pg_ticketDetailsViewBean.class,
    "pg_ticketDetails.st_ticketID"));
    =============================================================
But what does the target viewbean need to be doing to make this work?
I don't see any code that would explicitly or implicitly make it use
this information being passed. Should I be intercepting it and setting
the where clause myself in the beginDisplay? Also, how do I get this
targetpair out of the href call in the href action?
    Thanks,

  • Meaning of Up arrow symbol with circle on Grid Control

On the targets page in Grid control, the instances that are up and running have an upward arrow against their names. Some however have a circle around them. What does this circle signify?
    Regards
    Baffy

The circle indicates that you can click on it. You'll be able to click on the status and see Overall Availability unlike other targets that don't have the circle. It might have to do with the different licensing of different targets.
