What does Spotlight omit from its search?

Disturbingly, Spotlight does not find everything. For example, it does not find the folders in /Library/Preferences. What is it defined to search?

By default Spotlight does not report items found in the System, Library, or user Library folders. This behavior can be changed by specifically requesting System files in your search. In the Find Window, click on the plus next to the save button on the far right. On the far left click on kind and scroll down to other. A dialog box will appear and you can scroll down to (or search) for *System Files*. There's a checkmark you can select so that this option will always appear in the kind dropdown, I checked it. Having selected System Files as a kind select *are included* from the dropdown menu next to it. I know, this is something of a hassle, but in defence of this system, most users are searching for their own files most of the time.

  • What does "waiting" mean when its on the screen instead of an app logo/picture?

I'm a new user of the iphone.  After downloading some apps I have a block(where normally is the name of the app) that is grey'd out and is labled "waiting".  What does this mean?  Thanks.

Means the app is trying to download to the phone. If this has been some time, you might want to reset the phone and see if you can complete the download. The other alternative is to open iTunes on the computer, go to check for available downloads and then connect the phone to the computer and sync.

  • What does spotlight search?

Sorry for the obvious question, but is there a document / thread (I tried looking) that gives a quick summary of how spotlight works and what it looks at?
I ask as it doesn't search, for me, footnotes of Word documents (which is annoying) and companies in Address Book (which is also annoying). I'm wondering if this is a problem with my computer, or standard.
    Thanks!

Instead of searching directly on drives and within files, Spotlight indexes those drives and files, and searches within the index.
Therefore everything relies on Spotlight being able to keep that index complete, accurate, and up to date (to the microsecond, as you will be constantly changing files, renaming them, moving them around, etc., in normal use).
Needless to say, Spotlight fails to do that and despite the many clever and not-so-clever fixes that are sometimes suggested in these forums, the entire concept, in my opinion and in the opinion of others, is very silly, too clever for its own good, and we wonder what Apple was thinking of.
<I'm wondering if this is a problem with my computer, or standard.>
Alas, it's standard. To find the files you're looking for, more efficaciously, more quickly, and certainly more reliably, I suggest you try EasyFind as an alternative.
EasyFind is freeware and can be downloaded from here:

  • What does the Isight from the G5 look like

Now that I see that what is inside the external Isight can won't work - how small is the Isight that is built in to the G5? Do you suppose Apple farms out the manufacturing for that item and if so, who would be the manufacturer? As I mentioned before, we need a very small video and the isight would be perfect.
Thanks in advance - it was great getting such speedy response to my last question.
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hello again, Charlie.how small is the Isight that is built in to the G5?I have not found this answer yet, but my GUESS is that it is the same one that is built into the top lid (Display/Cover) of the MacBook Pro. That make it small, but not as miniscule as the camera in Ian's "this" link in your previous thread.Do you suppose Apple farms out the manufacturing for that item and if so, who would be the manufacturer?I cannot find any place where Apple publishes information on specific suppliers or "build versus buy" decisions. Neither have I seen anything that tells whether the same built-in iSight camera is used in MacBook Pro and iMac. These are all likely closely held, business sensitive, company proprietary information. As I mentioned before, we need a very small video and the isight would be perfect. If iSight is perfect, use that.
If you want an iSight in a portable Mac, the one in MacBook Pro is the only one currently available, but Steve Jobs has announced that more are in the works.
If you want some other video camera, Google can be your friend. You may want to modify the search terms for what is important in your intended application.

  • What does the error from my Apple Hardware Test mean?

I was doing some maintenance on my iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor) this past week and found that my Video RAM might be bad.
My first clue was that when I used the 'option' key on boot, one of the resulting screens was covered with vertical lines of about 1/16 of an inch.
My second clue was that after running the Apple Hardware Tests, iMac Version 2.5.1 (the one that came with my iMac's original 10.4 Tiger installation disks), I was told there was a Video RAM error, but am not sure if I copied it right because all the little vertical lines. Here is what the AHT reported:
    ** ERROR ** ** ERROR ** ** ERROR **
    2ATI/1/4 113-xxxxx-117
    ** ERROR ** ** ERROR ** ** ERROR **
Does anyone know what all this means? When I run OS X my desktop doesn't appear to have any video problems, so I was taken be surprise.
    Thanks.

Well I just wanted to chime in I know this is a little late, but I just picked up a iMac G5 for $50 that had this same problem, I would recommend you take the back cover off of the iMac and inspect the capacitors, I did and found a blown capacitor I took the logic board out took it to a local PC repair shop and for $35 he replaced the blown cap. They don't have to be completely blown to mess things up just domed or really anything other than flat. I came home put it back together and everything works great. just something to consider I mean for 30-50 bucks what could it hurt otherwise if no blown caps are visible then your video chip needs to be reseated and I don't know what to tell you on that.

Got these on my 3 DC's around the same time, Since these are DC's do i have to grant the computer account domain admin access?

All services in ConfigMgr run as the local System account of the server that they are on. The local System account in turn uses the computer's AD account to access any network resources. There are multiple processes within ConfigMgr that try to access
remote resources. Based on the message you have above, I would say this is coming from automatic (or manual) client push as this attempts to connect to the admin$ share.

  • What does a red light near front camera signify?

My iPhone shows a tiny red light near its front camera, what does it mean when its on?

The red light is the digital in light, that is how it reads the headphone jack. The reason the sound doesn't work is because a switch to turn the speakers back on is stuck (note that if you boot the computer, you will hear the startup tone).
There are several ways to fix this...
Some have found that putting the headphone plug in and out several times (maybe twisting it a little) will work.
Others have used a toothpick to adjust the switch (I don't advise this because the toothpick may break).
Instead of a toothpick, many have used a paperclip (probably best to use an insulated one). I couldn't get this to work, but I would suggest straightening, folding in half, then twisting the paperclip and moving it around in the port.
You can also use a sewing pen/needle.
I have seen all of these methods online, but they didn't work for me. I took a que from this instrucable and cleaned my jack with a dry q-tip. I then cut off most of the end and turned it around inside the port. This worked, but after I put the headphones back in the same problem came up, I just did the same procedure again and it worked again (even after I plugged the headphones back in and took them out).
PS: I woud suggest putting some q-tips and possibly some scissors in your MacBook bag in case the problem arises on the move.

  • Navigation Link not working from save search result

    Hello Experts,
We have a requirement in our application which is created from scratch, I have implemenetd save search  and its working fine, we have some navigation links in result. these links does not work from save search results moreover it works with normal search.
Can anybody help me out to achieve it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Madhu Omer

    Hi Madhu,
If you want to trigger cross-component navigation to an overview page, then the following conditions should be satisfied:
    1. Your last outbound plug calls method fire_outbound_plug( ).
    2. The collection passed in fire_outbound_plug( ) contains two entities - a navigation descriptor as the first entity and a root object of the object you want to navigate to as the second entity.
In your case, is condition 2 satisfied? You can create a navigation descriptor by calling the following method passing its two mandatory importing parameters as indicated:
    CL_CRM_UI_DESCRIPTOR_OBJ_SRV=>CREATE_UI_OBJECT_BASED(
        EXPORTING
IV_UI_OBJECT_TYPE = * UI object type of object to which you want to navigate *
            IV_UI_OBJECT_ACTION = 'B'            "for Display
If you keep debugging the standard outbound plugs, then you will see that at some location, SAP will surely be inserting this navigation descriptor object in the collection as first object in the collection when calling fire_outbound_plug( ).
If you still can't trigger navigation, please mention the BOL objects you are working with, the component you have created and where you have used it.

  • F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST - what line was selected from list displayed

I am building an internal table and displaying it as search help using F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST.  How can I tell what line was selected from the search help?  Only one field is filled with the selection, but there are several other fields attached to this that I need in my program - but I can't tell which line was selected, and the one field is not enough information to use to get the record from the internal table.

    Hi,
RETURN_TAB would have the selected values.
FIELD_TAB will have the hit list fields.
DYNPFLD_MAPPING will have the Assignment of the screen fields to the internal table.
