What does start button flashing amber and blue mean ?

My media center m7259c will not boot up.  it starts to and all the fans come on for one or two seconds and then it stops.  I have reseated everything in the computer and it still does the same thing.  I also tried unpluging the drives and that did not work either.  Any suggestions?

Shoot, welcome to the forum.
It sounds like you have a failed power supply unit (PSU).  This can happen anytime, but the computer is over 5 years old.  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the problem.

  • The light on the start button flashes on and off.

    Hi
My Power Mac will not boot up.However the light on the start button flahes on and off.
At first I thought the disc was dead-but now I am not so sure...
    Any suggestions anyone?
What does the flashing light mean?
    thanks

    Hello,
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • What does "start up disk has no space" mean?

My iMac, version 10.6.8, all of a sudden has a pop up window that says 'your start up disk has no more space.  Please force quit these applications to continue.'  What does this mean?

EDIT: sorry, Kappy, meant to reply to the OP.
I think the full message would have read "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory"
When you run out of available RAM/memory, the disk (the hard drive) is then used to as a kind of backup for applications to continue writing to memory. The extra memory gets written to the disk, where it really doesn't belong, and then if it runs out of disk space as well, there is no way for it to continue. Hence, the message to quit applications to free up memory.
Bottom line: you probably need to install more RAM, or if that is not possible, you can not have so many applications open concurrently.
You are probably also low on free drive space. To see how much you have, select the drive icon and do a GetInfo. You need to maintain 10-15% free of capacity.
To see how much free RAM you have, open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select System Memory and look down at the bottom left.

I have an Airport Extreme, the light is only flashing amber and won't go solid green. I use my ipad 2 to try and setup the Airport and I keep getting "an unexpected error occured, try again." I've tried my iphone 4 with the same result. I've tried the utilty on my pc and same result. The airport is producing a great wireless signal and working to all devices. I really just want to get in and set the password.

I have reset several times with no success.
When you did those resets, did you continue to hold in the reset button until the status light blinked several times?  If you didn't, then you didn't do a full reset.
Here's what I do to reset an AirPort base station:  I unplug it, press in the reset button, then, while continuing to hold in the reset button, I plug it in.  (Yes, doing this can be easier for people with more than two hands!)  I then watch the status light and wait until it flashes rapidly several times.
I have a Time Capsule that I couldn't configure at one point.  To recover from that I had to unplug it for many hours.  You might try unplugging your unit overnight.

  • Time Capsule flashes amber and loses connection at least once a day

    Hello,
I got my Time Capsule a month ago. I had an old one from 2008 which I gave to a friend, so it was time to upgrade. I have no idea what's going on, but the Time Capsule flashes amber and I lose my Internet connection at least once a day, sometimes two or three times within a few hours.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any idea how to fix it?
    If it matters, I'm on a mid-2010 MBP running OS X 10.8.5.
    Thanks!

    You and everyone else.

It is not stable firmware.. or has issues .. with some modems.. or is just faulty.. pick one or two choices.
There is no fix because this is really a bug.

  • What does a grey file folder and ? mark blinking mean on my macbook?

What does a grey file folder and ? mark blinking on my macbook mean and how do I fix it???

With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.
With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 if you don’t have an install disk check this article. http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-withou t-an-installer-disc/
If you're running 10.7 Lion check this article
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/24/reset-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-password/
With 10.8 restart holding the Command and R keys, then from the drop down
of actions, choose Terminal.  When Terminal opens type:
    resetpassword
    and press enter.
You will get a reset password window from which you can select the user you want to reset, the admin account in your case.  Type a new password twice, do not do anything with the hint box.  Click Save, then confirm you want to do this reset.  Then click apply to the user's home directory, and click the apple in the left corner, and choose Restart.

  • What does this button on my keyboard do?

There is a button on my computer keyboard; at the top-left of the numeric keypad, just below the reduce-volume button; it's like a parallelogram with a big cross (X) through it. - What does this button do? - I can't seem to find a use for it.
Also, while we're talking buttons, the buttons above the arrow keys seem to correspond to Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down on PC's, but they seem (annoyingly) to perform slightly different functions. - Any explanations?
And finally, I know you can get a hash symbol using various modifier-key combinations, but it's so much simpler on a PC when you can see it above the 3 number. (Especially on a music computer when you need it frequently as the sharp sign).

I've found it interesting to learn that on some Apple keyboards, the button in question has the word "clear" marked on it (and nothing else).
My button doesn't have 'clear' on it, or any words, just this symbol of a crossed-out parallelogram. (It's in exactly the same place as the 'clear' key, but performs no delete function that I can tell).
I can't find a good picture, but you can sort of make it out here:

  • What does ESA stands for ? and where it is use

    Hi,
What does ESA stands for ? and where it is use ?
    Thanx

    Hi
ESA is enterprise Service Oriented Architecture.
This is a new strategic direction in which SAP AG is planning to take all industries to. They have developed SAP Netweaver for this. SAP as such is a great application but JAVA is very user friendly. In past integration of web applications was not so good with SAP.
With SAP Netweaver ABAP and JAVA gets integrated great and hence we have seamless integration between SAP and webapplicaation. This also helps to give great USER interfae with real time information search on web from SAP.
e.g. tracking information of sales order, invoice etc from web from SAP.
    If helpful, reward accordingly.
    Kind Regards

  • Pages for Ipad freezes when I try to delete a document. Documents start to flash on and off. Can't turn app off or even turn Ipad off.

Pages for Ipad freezes when I try to delete a document. Documents start to flash on and off. Can't turn app off, or turn Ipad off.

FWIW, think I found a solution to this problem elsewhere on this forum. Go to Settings / General / Accessibility on your iPad. Check to see if you have enabled "Bold Text" and if so turn that off. The iPad now restarts. In my case (and others) things are now back to normal with iWorks file management functions.
I can now rename files, delete them, and do other file management tasks in all iWorks apps on iPad without the apps freezing or freezing the iPad. Would like to give credit to the user who posted that but can't find it at the moment - he claimed that an Apple Tech suggested the fix when he called about it, so they know about it and hopefully will get fixed eventually.

  • What does the folder with a question mark mean?

When I power on my black Macbook a white screen appears with a folder with a question mark flashing. what does the folder with a question mark mean? I just replaced the hard drive. When I put the install disc in the cd drive makes a very loud whirring noise then eventually the disc pops back out. Any ideas?

    You will need to reinstall:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • What does the orange circle with white arrows mean?

what does the orange circle with white arrows mean?

Well, I've not seen that one before. In fact I had to click on it so as to read the tiny
text, then it appeared in another window as a .png image... so I retyped it  + also
supplied a .jpg of the same image of different size. Too wide: automatically scale.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
...maybe this is large enough to see without clicking? It probably scaled small.
•About the actual topic in your reply, in regular size text:
    { did you upgrade from an older Mac OS X? from what?}
You mean it could not or would not boot SafeBoot?
Here's an official support topic page about it.
•OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
Could be you need to start from a boot volume, or Recovery partition to repair it.
That is a more detailed way to repair disk & repair disk permissions, unmounted.
Not sure about that SUID thing, though. It may revert after a normal startup.
Maybe someone can offer better 'ways & means'... LOL!
    Good luck & happy computing!
