What does syncing email do?

I have 50 new emails on my iPhone. I read them using Mail on my Mac and then delete the mails on my computer. I then sync the iPhone with my Mac but the emails remain on my iPhone as unread (and I have to manually delete them one at a time).
Shouldn't the sync function delete these emails on the iPhone?
Cheers,
GJ

Use an IMAP account instead which is designed for this very thing - accessing the same account with an email client on different computers or devices keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized automatically.
Send a message with the iPhone and when checking the account with the email client on your computer, the message will be available in the account's Sent mailbox automatically and the same in reverse. Read a message on the iPhone and the message will be marked as read in the account's Inbox mailbox with the email client used on your computer to access the account and vice versa. The same for deleted messages.
This is not supported with a POP account which was designed to be accessed with a single email client on one computer or device.

  • What does sync mean?

Anytime I plug my iphone on my MacBook Pro, it prompts me to few things I would like to understand for full usage of my iphone. Can anyone help me with please?
    what does sync mean?
How can I backup contact data in my iphone on the computer to secure
How can I secure against theft?

How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically then delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will automatically be deleted from your iPod. Highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard, or right click and choose either Clear or Delete, depending on which version of iTunes you are using.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and click on the icon when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron > to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod

  • What does sync with Foxfire mean?

What does Foxfire Sync mean? Can I use my Yahoo email account?

'''Firefox Sync''' is a browser synchronizer "system" which allows users to keep their Firefox web browser configured in the same way on different computers, devices, and operating systems. For instance, if a user adds a bookmark while being at home, the bookmark will be available the day after at office; along with many other types of personal data.

Yes, you can use your Yahoo email account username for your username / email address when you setup Sync.

  • What does 'sync mail' actually do?

When i hook my iphone up to the computer and itunes opens, what exactly does the 'sync mail' option do? i don't have that option checked when my wife connects her phone.

If you have any email accounts set up on your Mac's Mail app and you select to "sync mail" with the iPhone the accounts you select to sync will show up on the iPhone's Mail application also
It is not necessary to select to sync mail each time you sync your phone, once the email accounts are on the iPhone you can deselect to sync mail since the email settings (incoming and outgoing servers) are the only things that are synced

  • What does syncing mail really mean?

I've just started using ISync with my .mac account, telling it to copy the sync-able data (Calendar, Safari Bookmarks, Mail, etc.) from my MacBook Pro to my .mac account. The goal is to then have my old Powerbook synced and getting its data from that same .mac account -- thus, changes I make on the MacBook Pro should always be reflected on the Powerbook. So far that's working fine with Calendar; all appointments listed on the MacBook now show up on the Powerbook as well. But the mail app doesn't seem to work in the same way -- email recently sent or received on several POP accounts I set up on the MacBook Pro does not show up on the Powerbook after syncing, even though the mailbox accounts are the same on both computers. It seems like if ISync can sync individual appointments, it ought to be able to sync individual emails -- or am I misunderstanding what syncing in the mail app really means? Is it only good for syncing settings (so a new POP account set up on one computer would presumably show up on the other one as well?) I'm also wondering if syncing works differently depending on whether the accounts are POP, IMAP or .Mac?

You haven't started using iSync with .Mac, you're using *.Mac Sync* for which a specific Discussion forum is here:

Your question would be better posted there.

  • What does syncing actually do

My wife is afraid to attach her iPhone to the computer do to it wanting to sync with the phone. She is afraid of losing music and pictures on the phone.
Please let me know what is actually done when it syncs, so I can make her feel safe.
    Thanks

Good question? How did the music and other similar type soft products get out to the iPhone.
    But...
When you Sync the iPhone it takes information that you may have updated through outlook, calendar, music, etc. that you may have updated on your computer and compares and coordinates that information with that on the iPhone.
If the information is not on the iPhone but on the computer, it will move the computer information to the iPhone as an addition to the what is already on the iPhone. In the case of music, I believes that it re-writes all of the music you have designated under the music tab to the the iPhone.
It looks under the tabs indicated by:
    Info
    Ringtones
    Music
    Photos
    Podcasts
    Video
and moves that information, file by file to the iPhone.
In the case of the contacts on the iPhone, it will compare the contacts on the iPhone and determine which contacts are new o and modified and moves them to the computer since you may have made entries directly into your iPhone.
It also does the same thing with the calendar. If you made entries directly into the iPhone and not on the computer it will sync the calendar from the iPhone to the computer.
The precedent of whether the change on the computer has precedent over the ones on the iPhone, if in conflict are resolved during the sync operation and the user syncing the the devices gets a choice of which data to use.
I have never lost data during the sync operation.
    Whew!!

  • What does syncing do?

I really think i should hate the windows itune-software...
Yesterday i wanted to look some of my podcasts i had downloaded to my iphone, and all were gone. I had downloaded them via wifi directly to my iphone. I had synced the iphone with my pc a day before, and all podcasts are on my home-pc, but were deleted on the iphone. A software should not do this without asking me.
Also yesterday, i created a new playlist in Itunes, synced, and this playlist did not reach my iphone. I will try to read the documentation to find out how to sync correctly. Perhaps the german translation of itunes is a problem here...
Another thing is the absolutely un-windowslike interface. Windows-PCs have mices with tow, three or more buttons and the right button should be used to let windows-users feel at home.

The solution was a boring ad telling that i should create a mobileme-account... And i didn't want to create one and did seed no reason to tell the software that i dont want to do so... After telling i can see al podcast and make hooks to synchronize or not...
But there was no message in the ad telling me what i will see after that ad. Totaly unergonomic...

  • What does 'Sync Apps' mean?

If I sync a game, then delete it. Will the document data saved in my computer? Later I install this game, then sync again, will I get the document date back to my iphone? Also I set Apps, music, video sync all to manual, how can I let the itune only sync the Apps I already have in iphone without install any new one to the iphone?

Sync apps is where you caan sync(save) your apps to icloud or your itunes acount so that you can download them on any of your other or future apple ios devices.

  • What is sync'ing?

This may sound stupid to some of you savvy iPoders but I do have a question: What does Sync do? Is it necessary for music/video/game enhancement? Thanks

Oh My GOD!!!! Thank you soooooo much. I did what you said and Tetris, which I had been having a hard time copying to my iPod, instantly downloaded. I don't have to do this with the music do I because my kids like different music than I do and we have all our music on one library folder? Thank you again for your help. It is truly appreciated.

  • HT2729 what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    iMessages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
Music library database index (but not the music itself)
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

  • What does a factory restore change?  email? wifi ?, what does a factory restore change?  email? wifi ?

What does a factory restore change?  Will I have to re-setup email, wifi?

Do you know if there is an easier way to change/cancel this password without going through all the hassle of the restore?
    Afraid not
I think you mean the passcode.
The device must be restored from the computer it was last synced with.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Hi you have basicly 2 Options.
1 -if you Switch One fotostream on all 3 devices of yours which are working on the same apple id -all Fotos you Take with your iPad will be synchronized via icloud to the other 2 decvices ( w-lan and battery depending).
2- If you select foots or a whole album in iPhoto on your air or iMac and choose than puplish --> fotostream --> new or existing event you can key in a friends mail. If this friend has iCloud and iPhoto ( for iMac or MacBook ) and click on the link in the email it will download this fotos in the fotostream section in iPhoto. If he has a iPad, iPhone,... It will do it in the foto app and if he doesn't have a iCloud account at all and you choose "public web site" while publishing he can see your fotostream on a website.
