What does the Archive command do in Mail.app?

Can someone explain the use of the "Archive" command in Mail>Mailbox>Archive (CMD+'A'). I see the Archive Folder in my IMAP list of items in Mailboxes and I thought to use this folder and the Archive command to store old mail so as to keep my Inbox clear. However I have run into trouble with this and somehow the folders are now badly out of sync. I now get this when trying to move/add messages to the Archive folder.
Note that the command on the server says "COPY" not move. I think that this is a key to the problem.
Questions:
Can I do this instead on the Server Side?
How will Mail sync with this folder?
Can I use other folders to copy even older messages to?
Where can I find advice about managing server-side messages and Mail?

FWIW, Alberto, in playing around with the server side, it seems like the best, most immediate way to make changes to folders there is on the web portal for the server.
I made the changes to the folders because my IMAP server imposes a 25,000 message limit to each server-side mailbox 'folder'. I finally got this from my Server provider's help desk (GoDaddy). So I set up and MOVED the email messages from the ARCHIVE folder to these longer term folders. Call me weird but I want to be able to access these folders from any device, if needed, which is the reason to have them on the server in the first place. Therefore (until I ditch them) the Sent + Inbox folders are 'archived' to these folders by year.
The current year's messages are 'archived' to the ARCHIVE folder, also found on the server. There is NO LOCAL Archive folder for messages in Mail.
The problem is that Mail.app version 7.3 (build 1878.6) is VERY BAD at dealing with (these or any) folders resident on the server. Other versions of Mail may differ in their responses to server folders and message contents. The problems in this version that I found and identified so far are:
No sync with server folders.
Archive command copies but doesn't move messages appropriately from Inbox to Archive using the command "Archive" (Mail>Message>Archive).
Old archived messages still stay in Inbox and do not sync with the condition of the Inbox on the IMAP server.
If you actually compared your messages and can confirm or provide a workaround to these issues in the same version of Mail, please let me know. Thanks,

In my first contact with the phone with "Nokia PC Suite" I found that it sends to Nokia servers the IMEI and other phone data (who knows what for). Does it menas that when you use the default mail cilent, it sends data to Nokia? What it does for? Because I wouldn't like at all that the application sends any data, anywhere, if I decide to use the application.
I don't know why there is no more information in any place, even support page, even the ... sad manual (that doesn't explain anything about a lot of options)...

I'm in Spain, but, as I said, it is a second hand device (actually I'm the third hand). Maybe the first owner bought somewhere in Europe, maybe to Amazon.de (very popular place to buy from Spain as it is cheaper than Amazon.es, or before even existed Amazon.es that arrived to Spain only a year back or so; or maybe it was in holidays around Europe; at least, I don't know the exact origin of the device).
Indeed one thing different is that the paper manuals comming in the box aren't in spanish, they are in german, french and italian (all surrounding Switzerland, indeed).
About the last phrase, I think I won't hassle myself in pay for a change of the product code and be able to update. That, by the way, the nearest Nokia Care is quite far from my place and if I choose doing by any kind of RMA, the ultra-expensive delivery costs in Spain, don't make me feel like doing either.

What's the terminal command to reindex mail?

Hi all!
I have a corrupt POP mailbox (among a dozen or so active accounts I check with mail). Using the "rebuild" command simply loses all but the past few days of messages. Trashing the envelope files in my library file and forcing a reindex has the same effect -- I lose all but a couple of days worth of messages.
I have seen, in pre-Lion postings, references to using this command in terminal to fix a corrupt mailbox:
sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/Envelope\ Index vacuum;
But I am not sure that the syntax is correct, given that the subdirectories of the ~/Library/Mail folder were changed in Lion.
Does anyone have the correct syntax for this?
Any other help tips and suggestions would also be appreciated. The problem appears to affect only the inbox for one of my many accounts.

What does the /O command in combination with images?

When I use Acrobat 8 to print scanned images to a postscript file an additional images is generated in the postscript file. Dependent on the value (1 or 2) behind the "/O" command this image appears in the pdf after I distilled the postscript with Distiller 8. Does anyone know what this "/O" command does or I can manipulate it with a setting in Acrobat 8?

/O isn't a command. It's a normal name. Some procedure somewhere is
called which will (presumably) look for this name and process it. So
you need to read the procedure, rather than look for PostScript
definitions.

The only other thing I can think of since this problem has to do with downloading on 3G is that the signal strength isn't good enough. Try a reset on the device, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and release. Once the phone restarts see if you can get it done. If not, you might want to check with iTunes support and see if they see anything wrong with your account.
Have you tried downloading on wifi? Does this work? Have you checked in iTunes for available downloads to try and get what you have cleared to start over?

How to archive a message in mail app and delete in imap gmail

I've been searching the forums before asking this but have failed to find the answer.
I'd like to, if possible, use the archive function in my mail app on iMac to archive and store messages locally. At the same time I'd like to delete those messages from the Gmail servers so that my archived messages only sit on my iMac.
I've tried but Gmail creates an [IMAP]/Archive folder with the messages that I've archived on my mac.
Is this possible?

Yes, I tried that already and it successfully stores the email locally, "On my Mac", however, the email remains within Gmail's All mail folder and is therefore not removed from Google's servers.
Is it possible to achieve this without having to go into Gmail and separately deleting the mail from All mail?
Would like to avoid the duplication if possible.

The past few days my Mail app has started downloading multiple copies of e-mails from all pop servers. This is only happening on my Macbook not other macs. Deleting mail from server does not help. I ran ClamXav found 2 viruses deleted problem continues

Folks,
even after having repaired the inbox folder under "properties" a few times, I still had some e-mails where the contents are different from the subject line.
In other words in the inbox there are two e-mails: one with subject line "abc", and another one with subject line "def".
When I display the e-mail with the subject line "abc", the contents are from the e-mail with the subject line "def" in the in-basket.
What else can be done to correct this problem?

What is the key command to open Audition in Logic 8?

The little play icon in the bin, sample editor, etc.
The one for auditioning things.
Doesn't work for me. The only way I can get, for example, a playback from cursor position in the sample editor--is to manually click on the little green play icon with the mouse. Same with the bin, loops, and so on.
For many years I've had key commands to do this kind of thing, but it is broken for me since Logic 8. What is the key command for this called? I've tried disabling the space bar as a key command, and I've also tried re-enabling it for "play or stop". Although in the latter case, that should still function the way it does in the arrange window.
Actually, I've tried a lot of things and I'm completely out of ideas.
I posted on this subject several months ago and it remains unresolved. For the life of me I cannot get the audition button to work via any key command.

If you imported your key commands from version 7 there can be problems in version 8.
Try using one of the key command presets from version 8.

What does the checkmark do, in iTunes?

I've been wondering for a quite a while now, what does the checkmark do next to the Track Title?

The check can be used for various things:
1. When playing in random mode, unchecked songs do not play
2. For the ipod, you have an option "sync only checked songs"
3. Can be used in smart folders in the "Match only checked songs" option
4. If you don't want to import tracks on a CD you can uncheck them and click import
I think there may be a couple of other things it can do too.
Tip: If you want to check/uncheck a whole album, select the album in browser and command-click any track - voila the entire album is unchecked/checked (note: you can select multiple albums by command or shift-clicking them in the browser window and use the same method, OR do it to entire genres or artists the same way - whatever is shown in the tracks part of the window will be checked/unchecked)
