What does the bookmark bar do? How does it work?

You can use the bookmarks bar in Safari to have links to some sites permanently shown at the top of the screen below the address field and icons - so you just have to tap the link on the bar to go to that site as opposed to tapping the bookmarks icon and finding the link in there. So it's just a slightly quicker way to go some of your more regularly used sites

  • What is the "Bookmarks Bar" and how do I use it?

I've been all over my iPad user guide and can find zero information about the "bookmarks bar" except how to make it appear and disappear.  I am now able to make a blank area near the top of the Safari screen appear and disappear - GREAT!!!!  Information as to what this area may contain, how to place and remove items from it, etc is NOWHERE!  If there is anyone out there that uses this feature, please explain what it is and if you find it useful.
In windows internet explorer, there is a "favorites bar" near the top of the screen where I can place the icons for my most used favorites.  Instead of opening a favorites menu and scrolling through it to find what I want, I just click the icon that is always present at the top of the internet explorer page - really useful.  I imagine that "bookmarks bar" is a similar feature in Safari but it's completely ignored in the iPad user guide.
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Thanks Skydiver,
This was easy and does exactly what I thought it would do!  What threw me off was the menu that pops up when you go to save a page as a bookmark.  The menu lists 6 choices:  Add bookmark; Add to reading list; Add to home screen; mail link to this page; Tweet; and Print.  Notice there is no choice to "add to bookmarks bar".   You have to select "add bookmark" and then within the next process box you have the option to specify an alternative to bookmark.  When you look for the alternatives, "bookmarks bar" shows up.  Not exactly obvious, is it?
It's almost like they don't don't want you to use it.  This is absolutely OBTUSE!
    Thanks again, Skydivier!

  • What does the scriptcollector do and how does it related to jsf lifecycle?

    hi,
i want to know what does the scriptcollector do and how does it related to jsf lifecycle? and also in the scriptcollector if i call this,
    preRender=#{myBean.onPageLoadBegin}
    postRender=#{myBean.onPageLoadEnd}
    how my page will react?

The hx:scriptCollector is part of the IBM Faces Client Framework and has nothing to do with Sun JSF RI.
Lot of the hx components require specific Javascript and those hx components should be placed inside a single hx:scriptCollector which on its turn checks the nested hx components and renders the desired Javascript for it at the end of the tag. Check the HTML source for that Javascript.

  • Some how all are Iphotos got placed on the bookmarks bar.  How can I remove them from here?

Some how all are photos from Iphotos got places on the bookmarks bar.  Anyone know how to remove them from here?

    What bookmarks bar?
Is this an iPhoto for iOS query?

  • When I change the position of the bookmarks button it always jumps to the same position (in the bookmarks bar). How can I make it stay where I want it to?

When I try to change to position of the symbol for the bookmarks it doesn't matter where I put it, always when I click on "Finish" the button jumps back in the middle of the bookmarks bar, right of the bookmarks and left of two addons (FoxyTunes and Forecastfox).

Sorry, that specific Bookmarks button ''(with the drop-marker down arrow or '''bookmarks''' word)'' is tied to the Bookmarks Toolbar when it is shown, and only appears when the Menu bar is hidden and the Firefox button is showing. It is not a "regular" toolbar button.
There is the original Bookmarks button, in the Customize Palette, which toggles the Bookmarks Sidebar view. It will stay where you put it on the Toolbars.

  • External Hard Drive?? What's the best to get, Hows it all work??

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I'm wanting to free up the space on my mac and thinking an ext HD would be the way to go.
Firstly, what do I get? who do I stay away from. I'm wanting to get something between the 500GB - 1TB mark. What's most compatible with the intel based imacs, do I go firewire or usb?
Secondly, can I use an ext HD as fast and easily as I use my internal HD? For example; basically all I want an ext HD for is to import, store, minipulate and playback my video footage in iMovie. I've currently got 160GB of Video on my HD and that's just from a few months of shooting. (my wife is both baby and camera crazy) Can you use them this way or are they just simply more of a back up unit.
Hope I've made sense, any input would be greatly appreciated.
    cheers, John

    John,
    1. Buy the largest FireWire drive you can afford.
    2. If other interfaces "come along for the ride" for free, then so much the better.
    3. You basically have 4 places (in my opinion) from which to acquire your new drive.
    a. OtherWorldComputing - http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/400+USB2/ . 500GB, quad interface for $230 USD. The positives are price and OWC's very good customer service (in my personal experience). The negatives are the slight noise from the fan.
    b. G-Technology - http://g-technology.com/Products/G-DRIVEQ.cfm . 500GB, quad interface for $300 USD. I own 2 of these. Cost more, but ZERO noise as they use passive cooling. Longer warranty. I can't address the service issue as I have never had to use it.
    c. LaCie - http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10894 . 500GB, quad for $220 USD. I have not owned this, but have owned 2 LaCie Porsche drives. Good service (personal experience) and price. Negative is the fan noise. Slight.
    d. Wiebe Tech - http://www.wiebetech.com/products/toughtech.php . You buy the enclosure from them ($120 USD) and then insert your own hard drive (500 GB from NewEgg for $120). Slightly higher cost than OWC and LaCie. Small DIY effort. No noise with no fan. Look at the ToughTech XE series. Very good reputation in the market.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's exactly what you need. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US
This is the only way to view a video on the TV. After connecting your MacBook Air to the TV, image on your TV should show immediately. Then, press Command and F1 keys to mirror your MacBook Air display, and open the video

On an older Mac I got this message while trying to burn a CD for the car: "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean?  And how do I work around it?

I had been getting this all morning and checked other messages from the community. THe one which worked was trying a different brand of disc.
I had been using Verbatim which had copied the music fine off the Real Player on my PC at school, but wouldn't work with I Tunes. Tried a Staples and an Office Depot CD-R , both of which did the job.

  • Why does the tab bar on my iPad 2 disappear when I swipe down? How can I lock it in place?

Why does the tab bar on my iPad 2 using IO8 disappear when I swip down? Its annoying. I have to tap the top of the screen to view my open tabs.
why did Apple switch the position of the bookmarks icon and the favorites icon. Now I tap the wrong one.

There isn't a setting to stop the tab bar automatically hiding (or I haven't found one), and as to why the icons were moved I don't think that Apple have said. If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Where does Firefox Store the bookmarks in the bookmark bar for Windows and is t viewable using a text editor?

''Duplicate post, continue here - [/questions/776604]''
My PC's motherboard has fried and as such I am working of a beatup laptop. I have a device allowing me to hookup my sATA drive to my laptop and would like to find my bookmarks I store in the bookmark bar without losing the one on my laptop.
    Thanks.

The bookmarks are stored in a file called places.sqlite in the [[profiles|profile folder]]. This file is not viewable in a text editor.
One way to do this would be to create a new profile (Firefox stores user data in the profile folder), you can then copy the bookmarks and other user data such as passwords to the new profile. You will then have access to the data from the PC and will still have your current laptop data in its own profile.
For details on doing this see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows] and [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].

When safari is in full screen mode and I move the mouse to the top of the screen to bring up the menu bar and the bookmark bar, it does nothing.  Is anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks

I just tested that since I hardly ever use full screen mode, this was the first time since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and it worked fine for me.
Try shutting Safari down and see if that changes anything.
If that doesn't change anything, try shutting down and then rebooting.

I am still running OS x 10.5.8 what is the next step up and the easiest way to get it. Does the Genius bar have the capability to get me to the most recent software if I take my Imac in

iMac G5 - you are at the end of the line, though you may be able to upgrade your RAM, or hard drive.
iMac CoreSolo, CoreDuo - you can upgrade to 1 GB of RAM or 2 GB of RAM and get up to 10.6.8.
iMac Core2Duo - you can upgrade to 2 GB of RAM or more and get up to 10.7.2.
Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to determine which Mac model you have.
Here's what you have to watch out for on 10.6 to 10.6.8.
Here's what you need to watch out for on 10.7 to 10.7.2.
Some stores may not have 10.6 installer CD available, or may not have 10.7 Flash drive available.  For those you have to make the purchase from elsewhere,
and bring it in to the store with you.  http://www.apple.com/retail has phone numbers for all their stores, and extension 5 often will get you a real person at the store, though if yuo don't get it, you might try a different extension.
