What does the engineer do to set up BT Infinity?

Hi,
I have to be at work when the engineer comes to set up my BT inifnity (I currently have normal BT broadband) so my Mum has offered to sit in my house.
What do they actually do? I've always set up my own internet before, never needed an engineer.
Do they need access to my laptop or are they simply fiddling with sockets etc?  I'm pretty sure I could set it up myself on my computer as long as the sockets and the line is working and I don't want an engineer on my laptop without me being there?
Thanks

Hi
It looks from your comments, as if you have not looked at the BT web site to see the basics of what is required for Infinity.
Please don't take this as a critism, it's a fact a lot of posters ask questions on the forum without carrying out any research.
I have attached a drawing that was for a query a few months ago that cover many of the requirements - please appreciate that I do not work for BT, this sketch has not been approved by BT and you use the information from it at your own risk.
Good Luck

  • On my mini ipad, I cleared the cookies/histories in the safari setting.  But what does the advance-setting of the clearing the website data does?  What's that used for? Thank you!

    On my mini ipad, when I'm on the internet -- a few times I will see a blue small pop-up boxes telling me to allow down/load or add something like the bubble-splash game or something similar.  I jusr click ignore and it goes away.. I'm not sure why it's showing up lately.. I'm not sure if it's a virus or hacked in or a web brower matter..
    Should I go to the cookies/histories in the safari setting and have it cleared out?  Will that help resolve that??
    And what does the advance-setting of the clearing the website data does?  Sorry, I'm not familiar.. what's is that used for? Should I use that feature as well?? Thank you!

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • What does the PRIN setting in MAX mean for my Dalsa CL-C8-6000A Camera?

    I am using PCI-1424 with Dalsa CL-C8-6000A Camera. The
    integration setting in MAX allows me to set the integration time using PRIN. But what does the number mean? How do you I convert it to time units (seconds,say)?

    Dalsa uses the PRIN line to control its integration time based on the pixel clock of the camera. So to convert PRIN to time units, you first need to do know the frame rate you will be working at. This will allow you to then calculate the pixel clock and thusly the amount of time for say 1000 pixel clocks.
    One consequence of this is that as you change your frame rate, your integration time will also change (since your pixel clock is now faster or slower).

  • What does the "Local Area Connection* 12" mean?

    using the commands below(win 8.1 professional):
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow ssid=myWifiName key=myWifiPwd
    netsh wlan start hostednetwork
    In Windows 7, the commands will generate "Wireless Network Connection 2"(I think the reason is that there already exists a connection called WLAN. So it starts from number 2).
    In Windows 8.1, the commands will generate "Local Area Connection* 12"(I could not figure out the reason why the number is 12 and what the asterisk means???).
    I could not stop myself from thinking why the number starts from 12 and what the asterisk means? I could not get useful info from google. So I registered an account. Could you help me please ? thanks.

    Windows makes several "simulated" network adapters for various purposes. For example, if you're on an IPv4-only network, but you want to connect to an IPv6 computer on the internet, Windows can create a simulated network adapter that tunnels the IPv6 traffic
    through your IPv4 network.
    There are actually quite a few of these simulated network adapters.  Since they usually quietly take care of themselves, and they don't correspond to any actual network hardware that you (the end-user) can see or touch, Windows will hide them by default,
    to avoid clutter.
    Now suppose Windows just started numbering all the adapters with the same naming scheme ("Ethernet 1", "Ethernet 2", "Ethernet 3", . . ., etc.).  Then by the time you actually install your actual NIC, it would probably get a name like "Ethernet 7".
    But since Windows hides the first 6 network interfaces, you'd see a listing that only includes one NIC: "Ethernet 7".  And you'd probably say "stupid Windows doesn't know how to count."
    So instead, we have two numbering schemes.  Real, physical NICs get numbered "Ethernet ###" (or "Wi-Fi ###", etc.) while all the hidden network adapters get "Local Area Connection* ###".  That way, the NICs that you see will be numbered
    starting from 1, even though there are a big pile of hidden network interfaces that were installed first.
    What does the asterisk mean?  The asterisk used to be the signal that the NIC was a hidden NIC.  Older versions of Windows named all visible NICs "Local Area Connection ###", and hidden ones were distinguished by adding an extra asterisk.
    These days, we try to avoid using nerdy jargon like "Local Area Connection" when talking to you, so we changed the naming pattern to "Ethernet".  But since hidden NICs don't matter, we kept their old naming pattern with the asterisk.
    If you're curious, you can see all the network interfaces on your system with this PowerShell command:
    Get-NetAdapter -IncludeHidden
    (I'm the engineer that invented and implemented Windows's current NIC naming policies.)

  • What is the best way of setting up Family Sharing?

    I just bought my son an iPad Mini and I am trying to decide on what is the best way of setting it up for him. The one thing I do know is that I do NOT want all the content that is my iPhone 6 to pop up on his iPad Mini. I want his iPad to be used for his games and educational stuff and his own music. I don't mind setting up a family photo album and share photos with the family. So is the Family Sharing option the best way of doing this based on what I just mentioned? Do I set him up with his own Apple ID? If so will everything still be based off my account so he won't have to create his own iTunes Library?
    I always use iTunes gift cards to purchase music and content. Will I be able to continue to use them even if I want to put some new content on his iPad and not my iPhone? Do I enter in his Apple ID info. Can you restrict certain family members to just certain things for example you only want to share photos with one person whereas you might want to share your music with another family member?
    Any suggestions on the best way of setting this up would great!
    Thanks!

    Hi DVX100Shooter,
    Congratulations on getting your son a new iPad, I am sure he will enjoy it.
    Family Sharing is one way of managing both purchases and content between members of a related group of people. Each member must have their own Apple ID. You can choose what music you wish to share with the family from your own account. See this article -
    OS X Yosemite: Share purchases with your family
    In particular the section titled Hide a purchase from other family members
    The music library on your son's iPad is separate from yours, but under Family Sharing you agree to pay for all purchases made through the iTunes store. If you wish to control what is purchased you can set up the Ask to Buy option for any family member under adult age in your location. See this article for details -
    Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
    Gift cards may not be used for billing of purchases under family sharing, with the exception that a family member may use gift cards to purchase their own content. See this article for information about Family Sharing billing policies -
    Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
    The shared family photo album is available to all family members.

    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT2729 what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

    what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

    "Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    iMessages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
    Music library database index (but not the music itself)
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
    You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
    If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
    Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

  • What does the usage of CURSOR word mean in an SQL statement?

    Hey folks,
    Please check out the following query and do please explain me what does the usage of CURSOR keyword in an SQL statement mean.
    select deptno,cursor(select ename from emp a where a.deptno=b.deptno) from dept b;
    well, the output was like this,
    DEPTNO CURSOR(SELECTENAMEFR
    10 CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    ENAME
    CLARK
    KING
    20 CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    CURSOR STATEMENT : 2

    30 CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    ENAME
    ALLEN
    WARD
    MARTIN
    BLAKE
    TURNER
    JAMES
    6 rows selected.
    40 CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    CURSOR STATEMENT : 2
    no rows selected
    Your favour'll be deeply appreciated.
    Cheers,
    PCZ

    This returns a non-square result set. Each row of the result is a deptno and then a result set of the enames in that deptno.
    This can be useful when you need to send a lot of data to a client application in a single query that would otherwise contain a lot of redundancy. It tends to be a relatively unusual construct (I've only found one situation where it was appropriate in my career) and requires some relatively sophisticated understanding on both the database and client sides.

    what does the error message that says " You are logged out because another computer is using this IP address." mean?

    Some other piece of network ghardware on your home LAN (Local Area Network) is using the IP address your Mac is trying to use.
    Reboot both your modem and router, or the Modem/Router combo box you have, and all pieces of networking equipment, computers and printers, you have connected to your LAN.
    If you continue to get that error then it is a bug in OS X or you have your Mac set to a Static IP address that is being handed out by the routers DHCP server to some other device.

  • What is the best practise for setting dirty flag of a page/view?

    For a page/view, normaylly there are 2 things to do for diry data:
    1. when it's clean, Save button is disabled, when it's dirty, save button is enabled.
    2. when it's dirty and the window is closed, a popup says "you have unsaved data, close will lose the data".
    My thought is: it must be handled at client side, because not all valuechange is auto submitted. E.g., you type the 1st letter of a string in a input box, the server side does not know it, but save button should be enabled immediately.
    Is it possible to capture all valueChange events in a page or a view at client side?
    I'm not sure what is the best practise for setting dirty flag? If there is better solution? Does ADF provide facility for this?

    public void save(ActionEvent event){
    boolean formValid = isFormValid();
       if (formValid) {
      save button is enabled.
        private boolean isFormValid() {
            boolean valid = true;
            if (Check Condition 1) {
                valid = false;
               showErrorMessage1();
            if (Check Condition 2) {
                valid = false;
               showErrorMessage1();
            return valid;
        private void showErrorMessage1() {
                    when it's dirty and the window is closed, a popup says "you have unsaved data, close will lose the data".

  • Exactly what does the Data Drop-down List do?

    What does the Data Drop-down List do? Is it used to make a drop-down list from certain records in a column in a table of a data base?

    Yes, this is exactly what it does. However, it's a custom control, not a built-in control. JavaScript is used to set it up. In order to use it you have to have a data connection in the document and modify the "Initialize" script, which is were the list is populated from the DB. The "Initialize" code is a good example of how to use XFA JavaScript to access a DB. However, the code is also written in a very general manor and takes the long way around to hooking up to the DB. Much shorter code can be written for a specific DB.

    What does the ~ symbol mean next to an event?  I have never seen this before but today when I edited a few events this appeared next to the event.

    Greetings,
    Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
    If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
    Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    --- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
    Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
    --- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

    What does the "AUTO" in PARALLEL(AUTO) do?  I know what the PARALLEL hint does.  Usually, you would either not include something in the parentheses following the hint or you would include a number in order to set the DOP.  What happens when you use AUTO instead of a number for the DOP?  I can't find an article online that explains this.
    Thank you.
