What does the GB mean?

I am not familiar with iPods and the like but I would like to purchase one as a gift, and I have a question.
Is there any difference between the 8GB, 32GB and 64GB iPods apart from how many things you can save to it? Does getting more compromise anything else or is the only reason people would buy a smaller number because of cost?
Thank you.

GB is gigabyte...some people buy smaller gb's because they don't need a lot of space (aren't into gaming or a lot of apps...don't have huge libraries, etc). Some do it to save money upfront. If you choose a smaller GB device and later decide you need more room you can't do anything about it except purchase a larger capacity iPod. It's more about convenience...are you willing to sync more often and not have a large amount of a massive library on your iPod at all times (for those that have large collections of course) or do you prefer having everything on you just in case you are in the mood to hear or see something and can't immediately sync with your computer to add it. It's all a personal choice. For me, more space in the iPod Touch format was something I wanted so I have a 64 GB. For my mother, the smaller capacity was more than enough.

  • What does the "S" mean in reference to lenses? EF-S vs EF lens?

I have both a digital camera, the 60D, and recently acquired an EOS 1N 35mm film camera.  I have bought lenses for my 60D but not the 1N film camera....was told that my 18-55mm lens for my 60D would not be interchangeable with the 1N?  So, EF-S vs EF lens, what is the S and what does it indicate?   What does the "S" mean in reference to lenses?  EF-S vs EF lens?
Thanks.....I am just getting started in photography and do not know all the different terms....
    James

In the simlpest of terms think of the S as standing for SMALL sensor. The sensor in crop bodies is much smaller in physical size than the area your film camera needs covering with when the shutter opens. An EF S lens won't allow light to cover the full area in the film or FF body. This allows smaller & cheaper lenses but at the expense of limiting their use.

For my ipad, I have a few movies I want on it.  Most of my movies have a cloud in the corner and I do not want them on my ipad.  What does the cloud mean?

Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store>Show All>Videos>Off. The movies with the cloud icon are movies in the cloud and they should disappear when you do what I posted.

What does the ~ symbol mean next to an event?  I have never seen this before but today when I edited a few events this appeared next to the event.

    Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

    Orientation lock.  From http://www.apple.com/iphone/tips/
    Lock the screen orientation.
Double-click the Home button to bring up the multitasking interface, then swipe from left to right. Now tap the portrait orientation lock once to turn it on and again to turn it off.

What does the message mean time capsule already in use when it refueses to backup?

    Just the network is cranky..
Simple first step.. restart the TC.. ie unplug the power cord.. count to 10.. plug it back in.
Second step if that fails.. restart the network.. off everything.. restart in order.. modem.. TC.. clients 2min gap.
Finally if you are prepared to fight you can load 5.6 utility onto Mountain Lion and do a disconnect all users.. or a few other ways.. turn off file sharing and turn it back on.
The issue being TM did not dismount the sparsebundle correctly.

Are you running Firefox in Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode?
    Mozilla/5.0 ('''Windows NT 4.0'''; rv:35.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/35.0
Firefox won't install on Windows NT 4.0 - so something is changing your useragent and saying that your operating system is like 20 years old.
Right-click your Firefox desk-top shortcut and select Properties. Then open the Compatibility tab and look at '''Compatibility mode''' - un-check that box if it has a check-mark.

    Hello tresacg,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the previous owner has enabled a password on it. The first thing you can try is in this article:

  • What does the URL mean -- p?n=#ID#

    Hi,
I was going through the File Upload tutorial in the Developer Guide,
we give a url to download the file which is as follows
    p?n=#ID#
Can someone explain why we give the URL as above, what does 'p' in the URL mean.
Is there some kind of APEX built in logic to treat 'n' as the file ID,I tried changing the parameter name from 'n' to 'test' and the download functionality did not work.
Please let me have an understanding of the same.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kartik

Connect to your database in SQL*Plus as any user.
    SQL> desc p
    PROCEDURE p
    Argument Name                  Type                    In/Out Default?
    N                              VARCHAR2                IN     DEFAULT
    P_MIME_TYPE                    VARCHAR2                IN     DEFAULT
P_INLINE                       VARCHAR2                IN     DEFAULTThis tells you that it's a procedure with parameters like N, and yes, N is the file ID in the documents table. There is actually a public synonym named P to a procedure named P in the Application Express product schema.

  • Network Signal question- What does the "E" mean?

I have an 8GB iPhone, with the prepaid account from AT&T- I notice that occasionally, I have a little emblem next to the phone carrier- it's a square with a capital E in it. What does that mean?

    both not entirely true.
the E does not indicate an edge connection is in USE but an edge connection is available if you want to use it.
and no, visual voicemail and sms do have nothing to do with edge. edge is for internet access, so safari, mail, maps etc.
sms, calls and VV are handled over the GSM network
