What does the "other" yellow bar consist of?

I have an iPhone 4 that is 8 GB. I barely have enough room for pictures and audio but I'm having an issue with my "other" bar taking up most of my space.  I have done all of the things you can do, such as delete old messages, safari history, and notes, calenders, and so on. I am stuck because I need the space on my phone to continue using it! I have also deleted apps, and most of my photos (even though I didn't want to.) Can someone please help me?

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.
Your notes, contacts and calendars should be synced to your computer regularly.
Any itunes purchases made on the iphone should be transferred to your computer regularly.
When you sync your settings are backed up, so make sure you sync before restoring.
First try restoring from your backup.
If that does not reduce "other", then restore as new.

    2. Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.

  • HT2729 what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

what does the "other" category consist of when syncing iPhone

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    iMessages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
Music library database index (but not the music itself)
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

what does the flashing yellow light mean on my airport express?

Open AirPort Utility, the application that you used to configure the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup.
Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line) and a window will open to tell you why the Express is complaining. What is the message?
It might be a notification that an update is available for your Express.

  • When I see the usage on my iPod touch 4 they have categories for how much space is being used where. What does the "other" category contain? Like what could I delete on my iPod to get rid of the "other" category?

when I see the usage on my iPod touch 4 they have categories for how much space is being used where. What does the "other" category contain? Like what could I delete on my iPod to get rid of the "other" category?

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • What is the other ( yellow) when you plug

What is the other yellow when you sync your phone to itunes? I takes 4 gbs of storage.

    It can be favorites/recents/etc,
It should be less than 1GB.
More than this indicates corrupt files.  A restore should resolve.

  • When I block my caller Id what does the other person see.

My question is when I block my number/caller id on my iphone what does the reciever of the call see? Restricted/blocked or could it possibly be a bunch of numbers?? Like 13 digits. would it depend on the phone the other person has like if it is an old flip phone?
(when scrolling down I dont know the operating system) so ignore my answer to that if it even shows??

Depends on the carrier you use and the recipient's device. More than likely Blocked.

  • HELP!!!!!!  What does the "Other" category mean when iPhone is on iTunes???

    Hey,
I was fixing to sync my 3G iPhone when i realized i didnt have enough room for what i wanted because the "other" category is taking up so much space. Ive reset iTunes and iPhone but still see so much space taken up by "other." I've deleted all emails and texts and only have a few pictures on my iPhone but the "other" still takes up over 3gigs on my iPhone.
What is the "other" section and how do i get rid of items that the phone puts in the "other" category???
Also, as another seperate problem, i believe, i cant seem to locate the application link in my itunes library anymore for some reason even though the tab under the iPhone device link recognizes my applications in iTunes. How do I get the Applications link back in my iTunes library?
    THank you so much!!!

    OK,
I checked my prefernces and you were right, the applications weren't checked. Thank you.
As far as my "other" problem.....before i do the restore, how do I backup my iPhone? When i clicked on restore a moment ago it said it will erase my phone but i thought that iTunes periodically backedup my phone anyways.

  • HT1386 what does the "other" category (yellow) mean when I entail my iPhone to my MacBook?

When I connect my iPhone to my MacBook and go to Sync it, it shows that I have 4GB used up for "other". What is this "other" material on my phone? All I know of that I have is photos, apps, and music ...

"other" is the content that does not fit into the other categories - favorites, history, app data, etc
More than a gb or so indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • What does the "Other" disk category in iTunes for iOS devices consist of?

I have searched everywhere for an "official" Apple response as to what the "Other" disk category in iTunes for iPads/iPod Tocuhes consists and have not found one.
    Apple, can you please answer?
I have multiple devices that contain the Other usage ranging anywhere from 1gb ~ 5gb and I'd like to know what it is.
    Thx!

These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple.
'Other' contains things such as Safari's cache and cookies, notes, contacts, downloaded emails (and their attachments), and the content of third-party apps. Unless you have, for example, newspaper/magazine apps and/or third-party music or video apps (or other third-party apps with large content) then 1 to 5 gig sounds like too much and you might have some corrupt files.
Have you tried syncing with you computer to see if that reduces it, and/or a reset (press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds ignoring the red slider, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot). Or you could try restoring to your last backup or back to new.
