What does the restore settings do?, what does the restore settings do?

hello , one of my friends updated my iPod to the new iOS 7. It wasnt such a good idea. But im now restoring it. And im worried when i restore it something mite happen to my iPod touch 5th Gen. would the apple company be able to fix it if i take it in?

You might not be able to restore the iPod and you may have to get your friend to get iOS 6.1.3 back on the iPod
Apple will not hlep since y have a bootleg copy of iOS 7 on your iPod.

  • My computer won't allow me to restore the factory settings. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to restore my computer to the factory settings, but it won't allow me to erase everything from the hard drive. It won't even allow me to delete me as a user. What am I doing wrong?

You can't erase a volume while booted from it. Start up from the installation DVD, erase the volume, and reinstall.

  • My iphone keeps coming up with restore needed. when i turn it off and turn back on it says activation required. i have changed sim card, restored the phone and reset everything to factory settings, it is still doing the same thing. whats happening?

    help

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

  • HT201263 If I restore my iPhone to the original settings and it says it will erase my media what does that refer to?  Can I get my phone out of recovery mode without erasing my pictures?

I will literally cry for the rest of my life if these pictures get deleted forever and I wont risk it.

  • I have a restriction passcode that I have no idea what the passcode could be. I know that I need to reset the phone to factory settings but how do go about doing this without losing all of my contacts and other info, etc? (mainly contacts)

At some point, I don't even remember doing this it must have been so long ago, I set a restrictions passcode on my phone. This has become a problem now because I have so many apps that I do not ever use that take up so much space I can no longer take pictures or put more music on the device. I have read that I need to restore to factory settings but that once I do that I cannot restore to a backup because restrictions passcodes are saved in backups. Is there any way for me to restore my phone to factory settings and then get all of my contacts and perhaps as much other data back as I can? I have tried every passcode I can think of for the restrictions passcode (24 times! to the point that ever time I try and fail I cannot try again for an hour. To say the least, this is quite frustrating as is limits what i can do with my phone on a daily basis, whether it be music or taking pictures and videos etc. Can someone please help me solve this problem without losing minimal data? I have already backed the phone up to my computer as well as iCloud. Even the woman at the apple store told me I had to restore it to factory but was too busy to get further into it and I didn't have a genius bar appointment. If all else fails I can make an appointment and go in there. I just thought I may as well ask on here first to see if there was a way I could do it myself. Thanks for reading and hope you can help me!
    -Mike

You can't. Restoring new means everything is erased. If you have a backup made before creating a restriction code, then you can restore that backup, but none later.
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

i have an iphone 4 and after updating it to the ios5 software, it will not allow me to activate nor allow me to leave the setup page. i plugged it into itunes and it is stuck there too... i cannot even restore it. does anyone know what to do?

I have had this same issue but thankfully fixed it. Follow he steps below:
Sync your iPhone with you iTunes therefore your info is backed up. Unplug your phone.
Go to Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
Once your phone has reset and come back on answer the question until it asks if you want to back up from itunes Click this then plug your phone in.
After everything has sync'd back to your phone everything should work fine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Iphone 4s coming friday, what is the best way to get the notes content from iphone 4 to 4s without doing a restore? i want the new phone to be totally new but not sure how to get notes content across.

What is the best way to get the notes content from iphone 4 to 4s without doing a restore? i want the new phone to be totally new but not sure how to get notes content across. If I do a restore as I have when previously from one iphone to another it has shown (in settings, usage) the cumulative usage from previous phones so all the hours of calls on all previous iphones will be displayed even though its brand new. Anyone know how I can get my notes (from standard iphone notes app) to my new iphone 4s without restoring from previous iphone 4. Thanks for any help offered.

First, if you haven't updated to iTunes 10.5, please update now as you will need it for the iPhone 4S and iOS 5.
Once you're done installing iTunes 10.5, open it. Connect your iPhone to iTunes using the USB cable. Once your iPhone pops up right click on it. For example: an iPhone will appear and it will say "Ryan's iPhone."
Right click on it and select "Backup" from the dropdown menu. It will start backing up. This should backup your notes.
Please tell me if you have any problems with backing up.
Once you backup and get your iPhone 4S, you must follow these steps. If you don't follow these steps, you will not be able to get your notes on your new iPhone 4S.
Open up iTunes again then right click on your device (iPhone 4S). Once you do you will see a dropdown menu. It will say "Restore from Backup..." Select this and it'll ask for a backup, select it from the dropdown menu. For example "Ryan's iPhone - October 12, 2011." Pick that and it will restore to your backup. Do this when you get your iPhone 4S so you will not lose anything. Even though you're restoring, you're getting back, since you're getting the previous settings, notes, contacts, mail and other settings from your old iPhone. You'll still have Siri though! So, restore when you first get it. Also frequently backup your device, as it will be worth it. You can restore from a backup if something goes wrong or save your data for a future update.
Once you do that, you should have your notes on your new iPhone 4S and iOS 5.
Please tell me if you need any help.
I hoped I answered your questions and solved your problem!

  • What does it mean when my ipad is in Recovery mode? It's connected to my imac for software update and it says I must "restore" the ipad before itunes can be used. Will I lose everything on my ipad?

What does it mean when my ipad is in Recovery mode? It's connected to my imac for software update and it says I must "restore" the ipad before itunes can be used. Will I lose everything on my ipad?

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Unfortunately, at this point, you must restore the device before you can move on. There is nothing you can do to avoid it now.

  • What does Apple mean by "For best battery performance, leave your device connected to a power source until the restore is complete."

I just recently returned an IPad air and exchanged it for another. I first set up this new one as a new IPad but then deleted all content and settings right away (since I wasn't getting the progress I had made in apps and games) in order to restore it from my previous IPad Air. I then checked after on how to backup via icloud and saw this line under the subtitle of how to restore from a backup, "For best battery performance, leave your device connected to a power source until the restore is complete." What does Apple mean by "for best battery performance"? Im just a bit worried of issues.
p.s. And yes I did have it connected to the power. And the ios is the default ios for new IPad Airs.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It only means you should restore whilst it is connected to a power supply, so that your battery doesn't go flat during the process.

Simply, if you delete the "Getting Started with Pages" document, it will restore it.
