What does this Kernel Panic report mean? What can I do?
Hi,
I've had my MacBook (Late 2013 Retina 15" MacBook Pro) crash a few times, resulting in a kernel panic. I know a fair share about software, programming, website but I know absolutely nothing about crashing, etc.. All I know is that it crashed very suddenly, resulting in a grey screen talling me a Kernel Panic had occurred.
I was hoping someone could make anything out from this? I saw current thread was 'Skype' but I wasn't using it at the time, it was just in the background. This has happened before and I may not have been using it then. (It's not set to open at boot.) I was using a weather app ("Living Earth") at the moment it crashed but I only installed that yesterday and it's crashed before then.
Here's the Kernel Panic Report from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.

As I say, it's happened a few times before (twice recently but also a while ago).
I'd be really thankful if anyone could share some light on this.
I have noticed this. One time it crashed when using a video app such as VLC, and another time when changing desktops between an app playing a video and say Skype or Google Chrome (I can't be sure which).
Here's some more information about my Mac if it helps:
Operating System: OS X 10.9.2 (Mavericks) 13C64
Model: Apple Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro 15"
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1024MB
I've noticed that my case is similar to some people's in this thread.

Q: what does this VISA session name means?
I'm using GPIB reading data from two oscilliscopes. When I probe the VISA
session, I found they are like "GPIB::2 27". I know GPIB::2 means GPIB
address 2. what does this 27 means?
thanks! This is just an initial guess. Can you look at your application and see if my conjecture could be true?
I think if you open duplicate VISA sessions to a device (e.g., "GPIB::2"), we append a number to the duplicate sessions. So, perhaps you've opened (with VISA Open and the "duplicate session" input set to TRUE) "GPIB::2" 27 times. (Note that we're talking about LV 6i or later.)
Normally, you never need more than one session to a single GPIB device, so "duplicate session" should almost always be FALSE.
If that doesn't apply, then please explain more about what you are doing. Are you using VISA calls yourself, or are you using an instrument driver? Is the instrument driver written in LabVIEW, or does it wrap around a DLL?
If you were u
sing "duplicate session" set to TRUE, I'd like to know about why you think (or thought) you needed to set it.
I hope this helps. -
What does my Kernel Panic mean?? Please help!!1
My 12" PowerBook is having some problems and gets the kernel panic message pretty often. Can anyone help me decipher this kernel log message?:

-mikeI don't know what Kernel means
The kernel of an operating system (regardless which one: Unix (OS X), Windows, OS/2, etc.) represents its innermost level. It is the base software anything else is built on (drivers, system utilities and finally the graphical user interface and all applications you work with).
So a kernel panic isn't coverable by any security mechanism. If one of your applications fails, the operating system gives an error message to you and in an ideal case, just closes the erroneous applications while you can still work with your computer.
A kernel panic however affects the foundation of the operating system, and this is the reason why you have no other choice than rebooting. And since all system services are stopping immediately in such a case, you may lose data (that has not be written to disk already) and even sometimes destroy files (that have been accessed at the time the kernel panic occurred). -
What does this error message even MEAN??
So as I've been posting on here recently, I'm in the process of upgrading the OS on my old G4 from Panther to Tiger. I've received 2 different suggestions on how to safely do so (the 1st was simply to install Tiger on the 2nd partition of my internal drive, and then designate that one as my boot drive).
But for the 2nd method, it was suggested that I clone my current boot partition (using something like Carbon Copy Cloner, which I'm attempting), save the clone to my external drive (so I can boot off that if something happens), and then Upgrade my Panther to Tiger on the same partition, so that I can keep all my Preferences, Bookmarks, etc.
In preparation, I Verified and Repaired Permissions on both the Source Disk and the Target volume--the External Drive, which is actually formatted in Mac OS Standard; the drive I'm cloning is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled)--and had run the "Clone" command, but immediately got this error message:
"There was an error during correcting volume privileges: chown:/Volumes/Untitled/: operation not supported. Would you like to ignore this error or stop?"
So I stopped.
What does that even MEAN? Should I "ignore" it? Or simply skip Cloning the damned drive, install the new OS to the 2nd partition, and designate that one as my boot drive?? I've been worried about Permissions on this computer, as for some reason I can't seem to Verify, or Repair Permissions for the 2nd partition of the internal drive, but for all I know, maybe you're not even supposed to be able to.
If anyone could help answer either issue though, I'd really appreciate it. I've just been preparing my computer for this upgrade for a day or two, and would really like to go through with it...You need to first format the external drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Open Disk Utility, select the external volume from the left side list, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the drop down menu, then click on the Erase button.
Now you should be able to clone your system volume. However, do this first:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -
Can anyone help me find out what caused this Kernel Panic?

Having one anti virus software installed is not necessary, two is overkill.
If your Mac contintues to generate kernel panics after uninstalling Symantec and Avast, the uninstallers do not always delete all the associated files.
Backup your important data then reformat the drive and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery -

What does this Macbook Pro Model # Mean?...MB133LZ/A
I just purchased a Macbook Pro off of eBay and have now just noticed that they had the MPN for this laptop listed as MB133LZ/A. After doing some research, is this a computer from outside of the U.S.? If so, will this be a problem for me since I live in the United States? Can anyone explain to me what the model # means and if this laptop will be any different than the ones sold in the U.S. Thanks a lot!
One of my fellow level 4s appears to believe that LZ indicates it is from a Latin American country. That might indicate a slightly different keyboard, but you can always attach a U.S. keyboard if you find that it is, and Apple menu -> System preferences -> International lets you select the keyboard settings you desire.

What does this startup error msg mean?
I'm getting the following message in my console upon startup. Everything
seems to work ok, but I'm curious as to what the weblogic.xml file is. I
don't seem to have a copy on my installation.
[HttpServer] : Directory e:\xxx\ does not contain WEB-INF/weblogic.xml. If
this Web application relies on the WebLogic specific XML descriptor, this
may result in misconfigured application. It looks like you deploy a Web Application and WLAS can not find
WEB-INF/weblogic.xml. weblogic.xml has the information on how to deploy your
Web Application on weblogic server. Refer to WLAS document on Web

What does this open directory error mean?
I am seeing this error in my opendirectory log file and was wondering what it means since I don't use a network to get user information. I am the only one using this mac so I am curious about this and how do I fix it?
Module: SystemCache - Misconfiguration detected - Failed to insert key '<T>CN=Apple Root CA,OU=Apple Certification Authority,O=Apple Inc.,C=US<S>CN=com.apple.idms.appleid.prd.{really long number here}' for entry '0x7fd18ba00e60' into hash 'X.509DN' as 'non-authoritative'.
I know that the number that was listed was the certificate number for my gmail account. I have not had any trouble getting my emails or anything.
ThanksThe message you quote is part of the "template walkback" in the compiler message. A program might create many instances of a template, including creating them indirectly as part of creating an instance of some other template. An error or warning message about a template is hard to understand unless you know how it came about. So when a compiler emits a warning or error message related to a template instance, it follows the message with "Where" messages showing the sequence of template instances that led to the error. The "Where" line by itself doesn't tell you anything. You need to relate it to the warning or error message that comes before.
The C++ User's Guide that comes with the compiler has chapters on templates that explains this topic in more detail. Assuming the compiler is installed in /opt/SUNWspro, point your web browser to file:/opt/SUNWspro/docs/index.html and look for the link to the C++ User's Guide. -
What Does This Pop-up Window Mean?
I recently installed a second internal HD. Has worked fine the first few days. But, in the past couple of days, when I attempt to transfer files into it, a window with the following message pops up: ...YOU CANNOT COPY SOME OF THESE ITEMS TO THE DESTINATION BECAUSE YOUR NAMES ARE TOO LONG FOR THE DESTINATION.... No matter what file name I use or what length that name is... this same window pops up thus preventing me from placing anything else in this HD. There are still 200gigs of space left in the drive so I know it's not full. What gives? anyone have any ideas. Thanks in advance. Sally
Hi Tim Ross1-
Did you reformat the drive before using it? It probably came as FAT32 formatted, which OSX can read and write too, however there is a limit to the length of a file name.
I would recommend that if you don't plan on using it for Windows reformat it to Mac OSX Extended (Journaled).

com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform 1.3.6
com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily 2.6.5
com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.3.0A crash generally (not always) is due to some problematic software, and that software is usually something the user (you) installs. In this case you added some stuff that added a bunch of drivers (kexts) to your system. From your above crash display:
com.devguru.driver.SamsungACMData 1.2.32
com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardActivateDriver 1.0.2
com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardDriver 4.12.00
com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardECMData 1.14.00
com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardECMControl 1.13.00
com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardACMData 4.02.00
Those become the immediate first suspects which should be uninstalled to see if they are the cause of the crash because kexts can easily crash your system due to the environment they run in. In the above list there appears to be two pieces of software you installed to produce that list; the huawei stuff and the devguru stuff.
So it was suggested above they first uninstall the huawei stuff to see if you still crash. If you don't then uninstall the devguru stuff. Hopefully you won't crash and maybe you could reinstall the huawei stuff.
Also hopefully that software comes with its own uninstallers. -
What does blue star on contact mean, what does blue star on contact mean
Suddenly a blue star has appeared next to a mobile number of one of my contacts. In addition I can no longer send that person a text.
It means that you marked it as a favorite. It is unrelated to your texting issue, which we could use more details on. Thanks.

What does error -50303 and -50016 mean ?
Does anyone know what does error -50016 and -50303 mean ? Can you tell me how to solve it ? I am using scxi 1161 for my application and i am getting these error codes.
Hi Anku
You can find explanations to error codes in labVIEW by going to the Help menu and selecting Explain Error and then inputing the error codey you get. You can also right-click in the error node in you program that presents this error and choose "Explain error". The two error codes you have posted have the following explanations:
-50016:
"NI Platform Services: The specified window type is not valid or is inappropriate in the context of the current device configuration. The operation could not be completed as specified."
-50303:
"NI Platform Services: The specified device could not be initialized. The operation could not be completed as specified"
Does both of these error occur in the same attempt to run or at different attemps to run the code? In which order are you getting these errors if they appear at the same time? The second error code indicates that you either don't have a connection to your instrument, that it's not configured correctly (such as the first error indicates) or that the instrument is not functioning as it should. The first error is a configuration error and could also be a result of the second error (i.e. no connection or broken instrument). So as both error codes you are getting could be a result of the other it is important to note which occurs first.
Best Regards
David

What does this mean?
Is there a fix?
Thank you.
Fredfredericlang,
Your plan sounds good to me, and yes, there could be some "intermittent" hardware failure causing the panics.
Before we go on, I want to establish that you should NEVER have a panic, provided you have three things:
1) Flawless hardware
2) A flawless installation (which is why we are "zeroing" and reinstalling)
3) No bad or conflicting kernel extension
To back this up, I will tell you that I have only had one KP on this machine, it was long ago, and it was due to a disk error (and thus a bad installation). Currently, my "uptime" is at 44 days, 13 1/2 hours, and I put this thing through its paces every day.
OK, well a 4th thing: Problematic peripherals.
Let's rule these out, one by one. Are you connecting anything that could cause panics, or is anything connected when they occur? No? Let's move on.
We are pretty sure we have ruled out a bad installation, and you are going to make double sure. Good.
Are you installing any third-party "haxies," or anything else that might place kernel extensions in the Extensions folder? Are you running the Migration Assistant to transfer stuff from a PPC machine? If you can rule this last one out, we are left with only one possibility...
HARDWARE! As I say, you should never have a single kernel panic. If you have narrowed it down to hardware, and they still occur, be firm! Insist, regardless of the results of any diagnostics, that you have a new machine, or a logic board/memory replacement. If necessary, escalate your case. Get this fixed, and get it fixed expeditiously.
