What does this mean in my console (May  1 06:40:09  ocspd[4179]: Error opening DB May  1 06:40:39 --- last message repeated 4 times ---) Is this error a problem?

I noticed this error in my console and my macbook has been running a little slower should this be a flag or is it an easy fix? Thank you for any and all suggestions. Danny

  • SUID What does this mean?

When repairing permissions I'm getting this warning:

    What does it mean?
    Thanks
    Pedro

This may not be accurate but it's what I've learned about OSX/Unix'y type stuff:
SUID means Super User ID and therefore this application runs with elevated permissions.
Repairing permissions is done via database of installed packages on OSX.
The Login update changed the file indicated but the permissions database either doesn't know how to fix this or doesn't yet hide the message from the user or doesn't know if it's correct...hence it reports a warning.

Well, just for laughs, I rebuilt the indexes of the wiki server and it looks like it fixed these memory errors.
The following terminal commands stop the wiki server, rename three index files and restarts the wiki server. The index files are rebuilt (can take a while) when the wiki server is restarted.
    +sudo serveradmin stop teams+
    +sudo mv /Library/Collaboration/globalIndex.db /Library/Collaboration/globalIndex.db.old+
    +sudo mv /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/WikiServer/directoryIndex.db /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/WikiServer/directoryIndex.db.old+
    +sudo mv /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/WikiServer/sessions.db /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/WikiServer/sessions.db.old+
    +sudo serveradmin start teams+
If anyone knows what other files should be renamed/deleted for a really comprehensive rebuild, I would be interested. Unrelated to the memory error (I assume) there are users in the redundant and unsynchronized wiki user directory that were long ago deleted from Open Directory.

  • In mail. What does it mean to to turn off on 'Load remote images?'

In mail. What does it mean to turn off or on 'Load Remote Images?'

    From Mail's help:
    Show or hide remote images
Some messages may use HTML to include remote images that, when retrieved from the sender’s servers, reveal information about your Mac. You can protect your privacy by not loading remote images contained in messages you receive. In addition, when you don’t load remote images, messages display more quickly.
Choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Viewing.
Select or deselect the “Display remote images in HTML messages” checkbox to show or hide the images.
If you chose to hide remote images, a banner is displayed across the top of messages that contain remote images, asking whether you want to load them for viewing.
If Mail detects that a message is junk mail, HTML images aren’t displayed.

I tried to download the latest OSX for my iMac - Mountain Lion.
This is the message that I received:
"We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed."
    What does this mean?

The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down.  Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
Reminder: create full backup before you upgrade OS

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.6 GHz, 512 MB

    Me too.
I'm playing an iTunes video that I downloaded and is in my movies folder, then the AUDIO/VIDEO synchronization mismatch.  I check Console and get "iTunes AVF Warning:  retireCmdAsynch ....q size = 12, releasing oldest CVPixelBuffer"
Which now that I read it, makes sense with symptom.  "Asynch"  "PixelBuffer"
Problem is, I don't know how to solve this issue.  It doesn't happen on every video, but would appreciate some sighted advice.
    Thanks,

  • HT1338 Darwin/BSD (localhost) (console) on a dark screen. What does this mean?

This morning I attempted to start up twice and got this message on a dark screen. Behind it "Responder couldn't read user specified computer name". On the third try it started up normally. What does this indicate?

Could be many things, like Hard Drive problems for one.

  • What does this message mean when i dial

What does this verizon message mean?
'your call cannot be completed as dialed'
i got a number on my caller id from my ex's neighborhood
    609-424-xxxx
its not his (old, home) number, but i am concerned that he got a new number or maybe called from a pay phone--
he has a history of psychological abuse
i tried calling the number back from a pay phone from the next county to see if i could find out thatit wasn't him to put my mind at ease..
but i got the above message
i dialed the number that was on my caller ID
would this message come up if it were a payphone that does not take incoming calls?
why else would i get the message.
thats the number that came into my caller id, but i am told it can't be completed as dialed..
i was calling from the 732 area code and did use the full number with the area code
i tried googling the number and doing a reverse look up
we live far apart--i don't know anyone else in his town--its too much of a coincidence to just be a wrong number
there is not enough to file a police report yet

This seems to suggest that it could be filenames… (see the final posts).

Replace dashes, underscores, hyphens & any other funky looking characters. Very long filenames of folder paths may cause trouble too.

  • A family member set up my time capsule, promises that it is set up correctly but the light on the capsule isn't green, it is yellow, what does this mean?

A family member set up my time capsule and sayy it's workign correcly but the light on it isn't green, it is yellow...what does this mean?

If the Time Capsule is operating normally, the light will be green.
If the amber light is blinking, something is not adjusted correctly, or there may be an update available for the Time Capsule.
Do you have the device that was used to set up and configure the Time Capsule there?  Is this a Mac?  If yes, we need to know what operating sysem it is using.
If you are not sure, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

Hi - I keep receiving the following error message on a song I purchased from itunes and am now trying to drag and drop to my iPad: "you must download items from icloud before you can copy then to iPad" what does this mean - please help! Thank you

    Hi Poonam26c,
If you do not have a local copy of a song which you have purchased (i.e. it is available via iTunes in the Cloud), you may need to redownload it before you can transfer it to your device. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Images have ? symbol on the top right corner of the thumbnail  what does this mean and how do I remove it?

    Q - My images have a
? symbol on the top right corner of the thumbnail what does this mean and how do I remove it?
    A - The
? symbol is used to identify a file that Lightroom can no longer access; probably because it has been moved using OS drag/drop or Move command rather than Lightroom.
    Click the
? symbol will cause a small dialog will appear. This dialog will provide information as to where the file was originally located along with an option to find (Locate) it again.
As you'll quickly realise, clicking the
? symbol is fine for finding individual files that may have been relocated, but not for large numbers. There must be a better way
Look at the Folder panel (left side of Library module) and you should find that the folder/subfolder containing the files that Lightroom can no longer find are shown in Red text. It is the red text that Lightroom uses to help you identify a folder/subfolder that contains files that it has lost track off.
    On the Mac you should
Ctrl-click (right-click when using two button mouse) the folder/subfolder, a pop-up menu will appear. From the pop-up menu choose the command
Locate Missing Folder, a dialog should appear. The dialog gives you access to every hard disk connected to your computer or CD/DVDs if they're in the tray. Use this dialog to navigate to the location where the folder is now located, then select this folder (not the files). Finally, press the
Choose button and allow Lightroom to do its stuff.
The method described above also applies to the PC version although the dialog is called
    Browse for Folder and the
    Choose button is replaced by
    OK.
You can avoid getting into a situation were Lightroom looses track of your folders/subfolders by using a variation of above.

  • I can't log in to my computer- when it turns on it has a white/gray screen with a flashing folder with a question mark in it.  What does this mean and how can I get it to stop to log in?

    Hi
I dropped my macbook yesterday and it turned itself off. When I tried to turn it back on all I got was a white/gray screen with a flash folder with a ? in the middle of it?  What does this mean and how do I get it to stop so I can log onto my laptop?

    Deev
Normally the question mark on the gray screen means it can't find the operating system. Have you tried booting up from the installation DVD? Do that, and when you come to the screen where it wants to begin a system installation you'll notice in the menubar where it say's utilites. Click on that and choose disk utility. from there choose your disk and try to verify and repair the disk. If you can you may want to also try and new install of the system. I don't know how much critical data you have, but reinstalling is an option. did you purcahse you from an Apple store? If you did you may want them to look at it. Hope this helps.
