Very doubtful that the developers are going to ever reverse that decision, especially since they posted a workaround in that article and made it so that using a whitelist was possible via that extension.

When version 17 was installed, a message briefly displayed that stated that 3 features would not be available, but I was not quick enough to note what they were. It was after that point that I started to get the “Remote XUL” error when I tried to access my email host via Firefox. I contacted my email host tech support (PureHost.com) and they were able to access my email without any problems. The tech used MS IE. I was also able to access my email with IE, but I prefer Firefox and have been using FF since vers. 2. What is “Remote XUL”, and what can I download to fix this problem without having to locate and install version 16 ?

I agree- I apologize if I sounded skeptical and attacking. In no way did I mean it to sound that way.
I completely agree on the software-hardware combo issue- this is why apple killed off 1G and 2G devices- because newer software revisions would never ever run well if at all on such ancient devices. can you imagine running iOS 6 on an iPhone/iPod touch 1G? That would be terrible. Let alone iOS 3 runs terrible on them and now are generally rendered useless due to newer App Store requirements (most require 4.3+ now to allow apple to kill off the older devices). forcing newer software on older hardware (apple, dell, HP,... Anything electronic this definitely applies to) will almost always yield less-than-par results. The other part is apple forcing you to upgrade by means of intentially making things obsolete. all companies do that.
All of this factual info aside, the issue at hand with the 5 is not a software-hardware combo problem- those are most widely seen with the major revisions. then again, this isn't the first time apple has gotten caught up in battery drain snafus (even iOS 5 was plagued with this as well- and now there are some people desperate to roll back but can't). it basically waters it down to the point where keeping the stock software will always yield the best results even though newer versions provide better features- it all depends on whether or not the person deems the added features are worth a performance hit.
PS. I'm still at 100%- and I've been using it periodically throughout the day. your combo worked for you, but didn't for me. And may or may not work for others- As the tech world would say, mileage may vary.
PSS. What model/carrier do you have? Just wondering.

If they are on that list and you have the original receipt from them showing the serial number, they may be able to correct the error in the Apple database.
If they're not on that list, you were sold a black market phone.

It means that you get only one download of the movie per purchase, so once it's downloaded, you'd be wise to make a backup. Otherwise, if something happens to delete the movie, you'll have to buy it again.

Thanks for this thread. I had the problem too. It was very frustrating because he's overseas and we iMessage a few times per week.
The reason it was broken: the specific contact had changed his AppleID password and had not updated it on his iPhone.
The solution that worked for us:
He reset his AppleID (c.f.: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5624)
He updated the password at iPhone (iOS7) >> Settings >> Messages
He updated the password at iPhone >> Settings >> FaceTime
I reset my network settings: my iPhone (iOS7) >> Settings >> General >> Reset >> Reset Network Settings
He didn't have to reset his network settings, and neither of us powered our iPhones off/on.

What does zoom mean in Pages?

I'm trying to figure out what the zoom percentages mean in Pages (the values in the drop-down list at the bottom-left of the Pages window). They certainly dont seem to relate to display size, since 100% displays (say) 10pt text as very tiny (when compared to TextEdit and other apps).
Actually I really cannot make head nor tail of the font sizes in OS X applications. If I use the SAME font at the SAME point size in Pages and TextEdit, and then print the page (or create a PDF) I get vastly different sized character sizes. I'm used to this mess in Windows, but I thought OS X with it's DTP heritage had better control of this?
Confused, anyone shed any light on this?

It was the classic Mac OS (OS9 and before) that had the DTP heritage.
The programmers brought over from NEXT have struggled with design and UI issues.
Having said that I have just done a quick experiment setting Helvetica text in a range of standard sizes and overlaying the 2 resultant .pdfs in Illustrator.
There is *no difference* in font sizing between Pages and TextEdit, which leads me to think there is an issue with your fonts or what you are doing with those fonts.

btw Since screen resolutions vary so much the 100% size merely assumes a standard 72dpi, when that no longer applies on modern machines. In fact on the new 27" iMac the screen looks incredibly sharp due to its high resolution but everything shrinks quite noticeably to the point where glasses are necessary to read the Finder.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case, partition and format it, and clone your old drive to the new one. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one.

How do you reset an iPad that is using an apple id that is no longer working, i changed my id and never logged out of it on my iPad before the change

so i changed my apple id since it was attached to an email i don't use and forgot to log out of my iPad before doing so. i don't use it often so this was probably two months ago and now i notice the old apple id that always will come up invalid user name or password but can't change the actual id to the correct one so have no idea what to do next

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.
