TD, LN - You guys make great points and I will take you at your word. Normally, I would not hesitate to update. I have a lot at stake here with a large vacation coming up with a great many new pictures anticipated. I don't know enough to understand what is meant by "verifying my library." Please give me some insight there and I will start the upgrade process tonight! Seriously, I have wanted to do this for some time, but have been scared away by reading too many situations on these forums.
TD - you have a good sense of humor. I know all versions eventually need to be left to die away. Support is not eternal. I am sure I missed the announcement that certain versions of iPhoto would no longer offer the ability to conveniently make cards, calendars, books, etc. Like the original poster, I was surprised to learn my version did not offer that functionality only by requesting it and getting denied. Sort of frosted me at the time, as you can tell by my original reply here.
If anyone can help me with the "verifying" question, I'll get off of here and let the original poster have his thread back!

I found a 'fix'. Following the troubleshooting basics, I deleted the com.apple.aperture file in ~library/preferences. That allowed me to open the program to a new, blank library. I tried opening the old library from inside the program with no luck. So instead I just imported the old library into the new one. It took a few hours but once it was finished everything was there, all adjustments intact. I had to reauthorize access to my flickr account but once I did that, it synchronized with all my online albums as well.
So it was not the most confidence-inspiring solution in regards to the software but I'm back to normal.

Can anyone help me please? My iphone originally was linked to my PC. I downloaded over 3,000 pictures from my PC to my iphone. Since then my PC broke and now I have a macbook pro and the macbook doesn't recognize all the pictures from my pc. I get the following message.

I picked up on this Post as I was searching for "iChat" in non iChat places.
A Mac will contain a Folder for "iChat Icons"
It is kept in Hard Drive/System/Library/Application Support/iChat icons
There are about 9 sub folders here including Planets, Guitars, Feng Shui and so on.
They are normally accessed in iChat to be your Own Buddy pic.
They way you have phrased your posts suggests you have a folder on your phone called "iChat icons" which may have been created by the PC.
For people who know more about iTunes than I do to help will need to know where this Folder is exactly.

The icon in the dock is a shortcut to the app itself.....for some reason the icon has lost contact with the app.......go to your Applications folder and drag Picasa back to the dock....a new alias (shortcut) will be created.....

If you decide to Restore the iPhone Firmware with iTunes, then do this with a DFU Mode Restore.
DFU Mode Restore:
Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both the Home and Power Buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release the Power button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds more time. If the iPhone screen is black, this is DFU Mode, Restore the Firmware.

Mavericks is not recognizing the .smi extension - on my Mac it thinks it's a RealPlayer document. You are not going to be able to do anything with this - it requires AppleWorks to be present to be updated, and you can't run AppleWorks on Mavericks (other than by the rather roundabout process of installing Snow Leopard Server in Parallels and installing AppleWorks on that, as described here).

I had been getting this all morning and checked other messages from the community. THe one which worked was trying a different brand of disc.

Since pse 9 can only use up to camera raw 6.5 and the d600 needs at least 7.3 and the d800 needs at least 6.7, you can use the
8.6 adobe dng converter to convert those files to dng copies, which then pse 9 should open.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

To ensure you don't lose any data you don't want taken off, ensure that each Summary, Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, iTunes U, Books, & Photos have the settings you would prefer on the computer.
If anything gets changed on any of those pages, you will be prompted with that message. If they look fine, especially after adding some media like songs or videos, then you can apply the changes without fear.
