What does video RAM do?

I know that the ibook shave 32 vRAM and PB have 64 vRAM. What does this mean having more? What does it help? What is the difference between this and the graphics card?

No iBook supports Core Image on the GPU. I'm a little responsible for the confusion here but if you look at the iBook specs:

I think you'll have an 'OK' but not the best experience playing on an iBook. I don't think COD uses Core Image.

Dedicated Video RAM (64 MB?!?!?!)

Could someone explain me what dedicated Video RAM is, please? I have the better MBP 13'' with the Intel HD Graphics 4000. Behind that information it say "512". I thought that meant I'd have 512 MB VRAM! True?
If I check a game on canyourunit.com (I have Bootcamp Win 7 64 Bit) it always says my dedicated Video Ram would be too low. I would only have 64MB. According to that website I wouldn't even be able to play Age of Empires III, well I can play that game perfectly...
Can someone help me out?

The video memory (Vram) on any Intel integrated graphics is dynamic meaning that the amount allocated is dependant on :
The amount of total memory installed in the machine ie 2Mb, 4Mb etc
The program being used and how graphically demanding it is.
Thus the machine will allocate anything from 64 Mb upto 768Mb, you as the user can not normally change this.
(This is the same for Windows machines with Intel graphics)

I am a forensic examiner with an iPod 5G in Recovery Mode. As a 'non Apple' person, what does 'restore' imply with reference to the 5G? Does it affect any data on teh iPod, like pics, and videos?

As stated in the title, I am a forensic examiner, although most of my work is on Windows devices. My problem is an iPod 5G with Touch Wheel that I received to exam, and I have not been able to get anything from conventional methods. But not really understanding enough about the Apple architecture and iPods, when I plug it into a computer, it appears to be in Recovery Mode, and calls for a Restore. The questions I have are:
1) How does the iPod get into Recovery mode
2) How to get it out of Recovery mode
3) But more importantly, what does Restore do to the device? If there happen to be items of interest (pics, videos, etc), does the restore affect them?

Techtool deluxe on osx lion does not run video ram test

I ran Techtool Deluxe after having installed OS X Lion. When it gets to the Video Ram test it quits. If I disable this test all is fine. What's wrong with testing video ram on OSX Lion?

Same problem. I've been having a lot of weird issues ever since Lion. Safari has crashed about ten times in the last two days and my mac keeps logging off all by its self. It seems that Techtool Deluxe and Lion don't go well together...when it starts it says that it hasn't been tested with Lion, and they no longer include it with AppleCare, so it seems that apple has discontinued the application. I'd say that from here on out, Techtool Deluxe will simply be a memory of the past...so probably just don't use it anymore.

I tried to save a video to IPhoto, and then when I tried to open IPhoto it told me I can't open the application because classic environment is no longer supported. What does this mean, and how do I get back all my photos and fix this? thanks.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know some details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what fixes have you tried?
where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

What does "View - Visualizer - Play Videos" do?

I just updated to iTunes 10.4 (64-bit.) As expected, my 3rd party plug-ins and visualizers stopped working. I hope the best of them (like G-Force and Whitecap) get updated sometime soon.

I didn't find this very helpful. While the manual technically states what it means, these types of questions are typically looking for context, helpful hints about WHY you would use it and potential issues you might have if you used it or didn't use it. Your snarkiness doesn't help either. Some of us are looking for actual help with the entire feature. So I've pasted what I found in the manual link you posted showed (for iPad 8.1) as well as a better answer I found on Yahoo.
You can also choose to manually manage content from iTunes by selecting that option in the iPad Summary pane. Then you can drag songs or videos from your iTunes library to iPad in iTunes. This is useful if your iTunes library contains more items than can fit on your iPad. Note: If you use iTunes Match, you can manually manage only video.

It is the best and easiest way to use your ipod. When you manually manage your music you choose what to add and delete from the ipod. You dont have to sync your ipod. When it is on manual you can use your ipod on as many computers and itunes libraries as you want without losing any music off your ipod. You just drag and drop the songs, videos and playlists you want from the itunes library to the ipods name. Right click and delete what you dont want from the main playlists under the ipods name.
Nothing will ever be deleted or added until you direct it and you can safely use it on any computer. If you click manually manage music nothing will change on your ipod as it is now until you physically add or delete things. If you resync with an itunes library later, though, you have to be careful because anything not in that itunes library will be deleted off the ipod. I always keep my ipod manually managed because I use it on several diff computers.
or you just highlight the 20 songs together and drag them in one action...some people are so lazy, lol. Think if it this way If it is manually managed and you go to your friends house you can use her itunes library which means basically getting music from any other itunes library you want. It could be some sort of "flagging" issue where either the AIM Servers have gone out of sync and you are getting two lots of info (There are about three or four servers involved with getting data to your Buddy list)
I can also see the possibility where you have a Contact in your Address Book who has two Screen Names.
You have one in one group and in another they appear to be Off Line. However iChat will still Link them and Show their Capabilities when you Right Click.
One way of checking this is to double click them to open a Text Chat Window.
At the top is the Recipients Bar (See View Menu when Text Chat is Open).
This gives you the option to chose a different Buddy Name if the contact has two (It offers To and From options if you both have Multiple Accounts).

They have an @Mac.com name and Jabber ID (As it is an Old Chat the Jabber one is Off Line and their @mac.com name is currently "Away"

Optimize Video, Full (Original Size) - What Does It Do?

I've recently noticed that some of the video I've imported into iMovie '09 is "optimized" and some isn't. What's the difference?
Specifically, what does the action "Optimize Video - Full (Original Size)" actually do? If the video can already play in iMovie, and is clearly compatible with it, why does it need optimizing?
Once you optimize a video, you can't de-optimize it, right? It's a one-way street.

There is an advantage to having the optimized video: At least on my computer, it plays significantly more smoothly, and it scrubs better, too. Here's what I found for an 8.1 s clip from my iPhone 4:
Original file: 10.5 MB, 95% CPU when playing.
Optimized Large: 37.6 MB, 51% CPU
Optimized Full: 56.9 MB, 47% CPU
With the original file, the viewer is jerky when it's playing, and the red scrub bar has trouble keeping up with the mouse. With the two optimized, the viewer is smoother (but not perfect), and the scrub bar keeps up with the mouse pretty well.
I don't understand why the original is so jerky in iMovie when it plays perfectly in QuickTime. I've always had problems with jerky video in iMovie.
I will also mention another point of interest: I have compared video from my iPhone 4 with video from my Sony HDR-HC5 HDV video camera, a pretty decent HD camera that records on mini-DV tapes. I was surprised to find that the iPhone video is markedly sharper. It really looks significantly better. I will probably be taking more video using my phone now, instead of always lugging around the video camera.
Downsides to the iPhone video: Not as good in low light. Terrible orange hue in incandescent light (some posters have claimed this might be a defect, as not all phones seem to have this). "Rolling shutter" artifacts. Hard to hold steady, and worries about dropping it since it has to be held in an awkward way.
Still, it'll be great to always have a high-quality (in outdoor light, at least) video camera close at hand.

What does RAM do? And for example I have 4GB's of RAM in my computer but I believe its upgradable to 8GB, if I upgraded it to 6GB or 8GB what would I notice changed about it from the current 4GB RAM?

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the equivalant of human 'short term' memory - it stores information that's currently being used. The hard drive of the computer is the equivalent of human 'long term' memory - it holds all the information you're not currently using, such as files you've saved.
When your computer runs out of RAM it starts to use the hard drive instead. The problem here is that the speed information can be stored onto the hard drive is far slower than the speed RAM operates at, so it slows your computer down fairly dramatically.
Having more RAM lets you do more things at once, for example having many applications open at the same time. Whether you would benefit from more RAM or not depends on how you use your computer, if you multitask a lot you'd probably notice a difference. The following article shows how to see your RAM use:
