What drive should, I use to replace my iMac hard drive?

My mid 2007 24-inch iMac has a 500Gb hard drive that is always running out of disk space, so I want to replace it with a 1TB hard drive.
What make/model is recommended? I do not want somthing that is going to overheat oe fail after a few months.

Any 3.5" SATA drive will work, I'd recommend visiting www.macsales.com, they specialize in Macs and help steer you to one that is best suited for your iMac. Also rather than changing the drive why not buy an external HD to store data on. If you needs are typical of most users your music, photos and movies are taking a lot of HD space. Apple makes it easy to move those libraries to an EHD, they even explain how in these articles:

After having had my iMac's hard drive replaced (had a defect 1 TB Seagate) and the 10.8.2 reinstalled, I no longer can make security backups from my iPhone 4S. iTunes simply tells me that the backup cannot be saved on my computer (which it has done numerous times prior the replacement of the hard drive). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Now that I saved everything to my LaCie external hard drive, do I need to erase my IMAC hard drive? My computer is still slow. :(

Not yet, get a second hard drive, or a second medium to backup your data. You never want there to be less than two copies of your data at anytime. If for some reason one fails, you'll always want a backup. Clone with Superduper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Note, if you have an early 2008 Mac, it is not PPC, but rather Intel. PPC indicates the chip is G3, G4, or G5. You can double check this by going to Apple menu and selecting About This Mac. You'll need a 2.5" parallel ATA interface hard drive. Most are 5400RPM, forget 7200RPM drives and slower 4200rpm drives. You don't want a serial ATA (SATA) drive, as that has a different connector and won't work.

Yes. Any 2.5" notebook sized SSD can be used. If your Time Capsule has a full system backup, then you can restore from it. You could put your old HDD into an external enclosure and boot from it. Then clone the HDD to the newly install SSD after formatting it.

After plugging my iPhone 5 into the computer USB, it immediately recognized my iPhone 5, showing: last backups, space left on my iPhone & all options available. I then checked the box to manually manage music etc. The problem I am now having is that when I actually try to drag music from my iTunes to my phone a prompt comes up saying that my iPhone is not an authorized device. What should I do? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!

iOS runs on iPads and iPhones; OS X runs on Macs.
Given your situation, I’d highly recommended that you purchase a SATA-to-USB adapter, so that you can test both your old disk and your new disk externally, since it might be that the problem is due to a faulty internal SATA cable rather than due to faulty disks.

You'll need to be much more specific; there are 20 or 60 different kinds of high definition. Some require nothing, some require superfast RAID, some require specialized hardware support.

If both of these computers are connect to the same router, both are in your home or place of work (Both are in the same location), it is very easy to Network them so you don't have to use DropBox or the external drive to share files between them.

Which version of the OS is installed, and which version are you trying to install?
You could try starting up with Startup Manager and see if it will allow you to select the OS X install disc as the startup disk. If so, maybe you can proceed from there. I would recommend repairing the hard drive first since you are evidently having a bit of a problem with it.

Hi,
I think you can't use the 8.1.6 thin driver for XA, you would have to
use the OCI driver or 2PC-enable your datasource. AFAIK this has been
changed for 8.1.7

What hard drive should I use

SHould I buy a SATA or EIDE Hard Drive? I have been reading problems people have been having with the SATA. I am not going to be using raid. Just one drive. Will I need to do anything special to install windows. Will my window disk do everything such as it does on an EIDE?

...I dont have a floppy drive for those disks ...
...then you'll save a lot of grief if you get a PATA drive...
...why no floppy drive?..Dell isn't calling the shots on your rig, are they?..

So I have collected so much music and movies in iTunes that my internal HD is practically full. (Library is over 500GB of 1TB and the rest is taken up with my apps and programs.) It's time to purchase an external hard drive to transfer my library to. Furthermore, I currently have a 2TB WD My Book for Mac that I am currently using for backup. The My Book is also full and Time Machine is deleting the oldest backups to make room for the current ones.
Here is where I need everyones advice. I am planning on purchasing a 3TB WD My Book for Mac. I am planning on purchasing more movies for iTunes. Which external hard drive should I use for what? Option A or B
Option A: Put my iTunes library on the 2TB external hard drive and use the 3TB for backup
Option B: Put my iTunes library on the 3TB external hard drive and continue to use the 2TB for backup

hard drive is failing on dv7-3169 laptop i have replaced the 640 hard drive with a new 500 hard drive, the recovery disks start to work and then say cannot set up partition on hard drive or install recovery system

i bought this new oem at computer rennaisance. they tell me it does not matter the size of the hard drive, even though it is small er than the one that came in computer. they said make sure new hard drive is initialized. how can i initialize when there is no operating system on hard drive.if i initialize Computer Rennasaince said I should be able to use my recovery disks. cannot initialize without operating system. The best thing to do would be to start over. Use Setup Assistant this time.
Boot into Recovery, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This operation will destroy all data on the volume. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For a walkthrough, see here:

Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.

My odi is 11g. I met the error infor "Could not load JDBC driver class [com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver]" when i tried to connect to a sqlserver2000 database.
The questions are:
1. which jdbc driver should be used for sqlserver 2000?
2. which folder to put it in?
3. how to set the physical topological "Microsoft Sql Server" to use this jdbc driver?
failed tries:
i downloaded the driver "SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC Service Pack 2" and put it in the following folders:
1. .../oracledi/drivers, and set this path to CLASSPATH.
2. .../oracledi/userlib didn't exist, i created it and put the driver in.
3. .../oracledi/agent/dirvers, in which a readme file exists and told me to put drivers in this folder.
All these works were not useful. when I start odi.sh and try to connect to sqlserver2000 database, the same error infor came up.
my environment is:
os: Linux 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 18 15:51:48 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hi,
You should check which JVM version is required by that version of the driver, I think the 2.x versions require a 1.6 JVM
What error are you getting? If it is the "com.sunopsis.sql.c: No suitable driver", it indicates it can't find the jar file (sqljdbc.jar) for the driver you specify.
Drivers folder in ODI 11g is under
C:\oracle\product\11.1.1\Oracle_ODI_1\oracledi\agent\drivers.
if you are using the standolone version
On windwos :
C:\Documents and Settings\<userName>\Application Data\odi\oracledi\userlib
on linux
$HOME/.odi/oracledi/userlib
