What DVD drives are compatible with the iMac G4 17 1ghz?

I need a new CD drive that can at least play DVD movies. I do not want to pay the large sum of money just because it's an apple brand, I know there are some compatible drives out there.

All optical drives are DVD capable these days.

It is pretty much generic drive-wise.

  • What DVD drives are compatible with Equium A60 PSA67E?

my question; what dvd drives are compatible for an equium a60 (psa67e-001001en)?
background; i did a very silly thing! whilst i was in japan and about 18 months after purchasing my a60 in the uk, the dvd drive packed up. i replaced it with a teac dvd drive and it worked like a dream! i threw the old drive away (i think it was a matsu****a, but can't remember the exact model). anyway, i came home and had a bit of spare time on my hands so i decided to tweak my machine and corrupted the windows xp registry.
Now the windows xp runs in a loop, i can't get access to it and i need to wipe the hard drive and start again basically. i put the recovery disk in, but the computer doesn't read from it and frustratingly finds its way to the loopy windows. i have determined that it is not recognising the teac drive that i used to replace the old one. i think if i put an original type back in, the firmware may recognise the drive and i'll be back in business.... or so i hope!
of course, any other advice would be gratefully received too! thanks.
work around??? ps... a work around i thought up... copy the contents of the recovery disk on to a hard drive (using my old computer) then swap the current hdd in my a60 with it... theory; when the computer finds the contents during booting, it will install xp on another part of that hard drive and i'll have a working machine again. could something like that work???????? any thoughts????

    thanks again friend!
as it turns out, that pioneer drive rung bells.
though my TEAC (DV-w28e) replacement looks identical to my previous drive and has worked ok with windows, at "the bios level" it is not being recognised... is that something you would have expected???? i must admit, with windows, the TEAC outperformed the original drive and was surprised it wasn't reading my recovery disk after my self infliction! i also tried using a usb hdd loaded up with the recovery disk and that didn't work.
but you answered my question so thanks a million for that.

  • What audio interfaces are compatible with the iMac/Intel computer?

I see that MOTU has Intel-compatible drivers for its high-end audio interfaces. Are there any other audio interfaces--USB or Firewire--that are at present compatible with the Intel Duo Core machines that are under $300? I've checked with Tascam and Presonus, and theirs are not yet compatible. I have an inquiry in to M-Audio, but haven't heard back yet.
PS: Does anyone else think it is just a teensy bit dishonest of Apple to be selling audio interfaces in its online store without pointing out explicitly that they don't work on the Intel machines?

Well, it looks like M-Audio's Firewire Solo has a beta driver available for the Duo Core. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. And it's well under $200 at a couple online stores.

  • What usb keyboards are compatible with the Intel iMac

Please can someone tell me what USB Apple Keybouards are compatable with the intel Imac
    howard

Some PC keyboards may not work with the Mac. Especially, specialty gaming keyboards will not work with Macs and OS X.  Some PC keyboards are designed to specifically work with newer versions of Windows at that's it!
They may not even work as a basic keyboard, but not entirely sure.
I know for a fact specialty gaming keyboards do not work at all on a Mac because there have been posts here from gamers who tried to use special gaming keyboards and mice and they would not function on a Mac.
If you know anyone with a Mac, ask them if they have a spare Mac keyboard you can try before buying.
    Good Luck!

  • What hard drives are compatible with OSX Snow Leopard Boot Camp?

Recently when the video card in my desktop Mac died, I decided to make some upgrades, one of them being the hard drive. After doing some research, I fixed on the Western Digital 3TB Caviar Green 3.5-Inch and had it installed at the same time as the new video card. I installed OS 10.6.8, opened up Boot Camp Assistant, set the partition sizes: 2.5 TB for my Mac side and 500 GB for the Windows. XP wouldn't install so I ordered Windows 7 and began trying to set up the Windows partition. Each time I tried, I got the same error -- Windows 7 couldn't install on the 500 GB partition since it was formatted GPT which was strange since when I looked at the partition inside of Disk Utility, it said NTFS. While troubleshooting, I came across the following:
・Mac users should know that WD's new drives do not support Boot Camp, therefore they cannot be used as a dual-boot hard drive.
・The MBR part of the hybrid partition table cannot work with 3TB hard drives. MBR is limited to 2TB.
・In a 32-bit MBR world, a disk larger than 2TB is probably invalid, and different OS's and tools react wildly differently when this is forced beyond 2TB.
I called Western Digital to confirm which of their drives were in fact compatible with Boot Camp and they replied since Boot Camp was a third-party application, they have no information on compatibility. They told me to call Apple to get the information. Before purchasing a new drive and sending back the 3TB WD, I want to be sure I know which specs to look for in a hard drive in deciding whether it is compatible with my machine. Any helpful advice or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Here are the specs for my Mac:
    2006 24" iMac 6,1 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    OS 10.6.8
    Boot Camp Assistant 3.0.4

Thanks for responding to my question. I guess I'm not sure I understand your reply though. I had no problem installing OS X on the 3TB WD Caviar Green and WD assured me that if I wanted to install only Windows 7 on it, there would be no compatibility issues. The problem lies with wanting the drive to be dual-bootable I guess via using Boot Camp (I know of no other way to go about it). The tech at OWC (where I bought the drive) said he had never heard of any problems with being able to install both Mac and Windows OS on the drive. In fact, he gave the same reply as yours: most hard drives should be able to work perfectly fine with your Mac. It's just that I can't get XP or Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) to install on the 2nd partition, making the drive I have now not dual-bootable. The tech said 2TB hard drives were different and should solve the problem but when I asked him for any discernible spec I could look for in shopping for a replacement drive, he couldn't give me one, i.e. most drives should be okay. I have paid to have the 3TB installed and will have to pay to get the drive taken out and a replacement put back in -- I want to make sure whatever drive I put in this time allows me to have 2 partitions: one for my Mac OSX system and the other for my Windows enviroment (either XP or Windows 7).
If there is a work-around not involving Boot Camp, please let me know. I thought the reason for using Boot Camp as opposed to Disk Utility to create the dual-bootable drive was the benefit of using Mac drivers on the Windows side.
If there is another way, I don't understand why PC world made this blanket statement:
"Mac users should know that WD's new drives do not support Boot Camp, therefore they cannot be used as a dual-boot hard drive."

Did you also try to contact HP support? They will need on the support side your Serial number to verify what docking stating it can use.

  • Which hard drives are compatible with the Ultrabase Series 3?

    Hello,
I recently purchases a ThinkPad X220 Laptop. I'm looking at picking up an Ultrabase Series 3 dock, but I'm a bit confused about which hard drives can fit into the dock. Can any 2.5" SATA drive work? Does the dock come with an adapter for the drive to fit in the bay?
    Thank you for your help.

  • What lightscribe CD/DVD drives are compatible with Satellite P300

    Very fast.
What optical lightscribe drives i can mount in my Toshiba Satellite P300.
At now i have pioneer dvr-kd08 but i wont lightscribe.

This is not that easy to say as compatibility depends on the slave/master settings and therefore you would need to ask an ASP.
Maybe check some lightscribe ODDs and ask the guys from ASP.
But honestly, would you really want to waste your money on this feature? I know, those discs look pretty nice when used ligthscribe on it, but is it worth it?
I have one in my other notebook but I have only used it once.
And you will need special blank CDs/DVDs with this surface to use lightscribe feature.

  • What external drives are compatible with mac g5  osx 10.5.8?

Hello,  I have a Mac g5 osx 10.5.8 and I am trying to copy the DVDs for motu's Mach Five2 to an external harddrive.  I had everything copied to a La Cie external harddrive, but it seems not to be working any more, so I got a Toshiba Canvio 3.0, version 1 tb and then version 1.5 tb, but the DVDs I mentioned won't copy to it.  I get error messages of either 0 or -36, which seems to mean that there is not enough space on the Toshiba external harddrive.  The Toshiba has a 500 GB capacity, and the DVD I am trying to copy is 83.3 GB, so I don't see what the problem might be.  I have gotten replacement dvds from motu, tried and exchanged the Toshiba, used disk utilities from the Mac, and checked all cables and connections, talked to motu technical support and the people who sold me the Toshiba, but nothing seems to work.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  They would be much appreciated.  Thanks, OJ

These are my #1 choice for desktop Macs regardless of processor type. One with FireWire is great for PPC Macs:

Too many "on sale every day" name-brand externals at the local office stuporstore are so Windows-centric that they are often ill-behaved on Macs. I even had a WD external marketed as "Mac Edition" that was nothing but trouble. I tore open the WD enclosure, rescued the decent drive inside, and put it in an enclosure with USB2 and FW800 from the family of units I linked above. Works perfectly now.

  • HT1583 What blank DVD disks are compatible with burning a film from Idvd on an applemac?

I have just finalized a project in imovie and this message came up on the screen - "Your project exceeds the maximum duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the project info window".
I have changed the encoder setting from best fit to Professional but I am having burning the film to a dvd. The computer tells me to load a dvd or my driver is busy - which it isn't it only has a blank dvd disk in it. So I was wondering whether my DVD disks are compatible with the applemac computer!
    HELP!

    Hi
So I was wondering whether my DVD disks are compatible with the applemac computer!
And if You tell - what brand and type You are trying to use - I will be so much easier !
But most often the problem is
    • Do NOT - insert the DVD disk before iDVD specifically as You to do this. As Desktop will catch it and try to format it as a Data-DVD - Not what You want (a Video-DVD) as Data-DVD can not be played on standard DVD-players.
To get it even better I do
    • Use Verbatim - Never Memorex or NoName etc cheap brands (as they don't work OK for Me)
    • DVD-R - as they play on even older DVD-players
    • Burn Speed - set down to x2 or x4 MAX ! - Best IS NOT BEST at all here !
    Yours Bengt W

  • What printers are compatible with the airport extreme?

What printers are compatible with the airport extreme?

Virtually any wireless printer will work just fine as well as a printer that connects using Ethernet. If you are looking at an All-in-One type of device....all functions like print, scan, copy, maintenance, etc will be supported.
If you are looking at USB devices, Apple does not provide a list of compatible models, so It is difficult to say with certainly what will work and what will not. In general, most USB printers will work.
But....very important....if you are looking at an All-in-One USB device, you need to keep in mind that only the print function will work when the device is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. Scan, copy, fax, maintenance, etc. will not be supported.
Bottom line...if you are looking at an All-in-One device and you need all of the functions, you need to choose a device that connects using wireless only or Ethernet, not USB.

  • What cameras  are compatible with the camera connection kit

what cameras are compatible with the camera connection kit and ipad2

I also recently bought the camera kit and found that it worked fine as long as you don't format the SD card using PC. Once I re-formatted using my camera I could once again upload my photos. that was until I switched formats to Adobe RAW, it seemed unable to upload again. So I switched to S RAW and that worked fine. Sometimes my kit won't upload photos but I find that by just re-inserting the card it works fine.
Haven't tried video yet, but I recently learned that the devices are quit sensitive to the "Format"(that needs to be FAT32, or exFAT- but in this instance it needs to be formatted by a Mac).
    Good luck
