What DVD formats can read iMac recorded DVDs?

Hello All,
I have a new intel based 20 inch iMac. When I record a video to a DVD with my iMac I'm I safe in assuming that everyone I send it to will be able to view it on their players? Is there a list someone that lists the formats that will read iMac recorded DVDs? Are they universal?
Thanks for your help.
Mike

If you are talking about DVD video format (i.e. using iDVD)...
It's not so much a function of the Mac, or the DVD recorder as much as what media you use. Most recent DVD players should be able to handle just about anything, but some older ones don't handle all formats well. For instance, some may like +R disks, and others may like -R disks. Others may not like RW disks. Some very old players may not properly play any burned media.
If there's one or two particular models you are going to be using to play your disks, visit their company's website and read the specs for that drive. You can usually get user manuals for the older drives. If you can't find any specs, then you will have to experiment with different media, testing them in your target players.

  • What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?

What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?
I writed to Panasonic Italy support about this question:
"What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?"
Panasonic writed me in a very poor manner and said me:
"...riproduce formati: AVCHD (anche 3D), SD-Video, DivXHD, JPEG, MP3, AAC tramite USB e Slot SD/SDHC/SDXC card..."
"...formato : AVCHD estensione file nella SD: .MTS..."
I made a few videos edited with PremiereProCS5 and exported as H.264 Coding and .mp4 file extension, all side by side, with layout 1920x1080pixels that includes two stretched frames at 960x1080 pixels.
This is the same image layout that uses the Panasonic 3D consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", that record AVCHD videos with file extension .MTS.
I also tried to export another video as MPEG2 with .mpg file extension.
But at the store the tests failed, and I cannot see anything!
    My questions are:
    1) What format can be used by PremiereProCS5 for exporting the Stereoscopic 3D videoclip and play them via USB port on Panasonic TVPlasma3D such "TX-P46VT20"?
    2) What codec should be used? H.264? H.264-bluray?
    3) What file extension should have the movie file? .mp4?
    Many Thanks!
    Horsepower0171.

-I already read entirely those threads, but nothing about stereoscopic 3D AVCHD movies through USB port, on Panasonic TVPlasma3D.
(Also, Sony said me that is not possible to play 3D videos on your 3DTV through USB port).
I tried to made a H.264 videoclip, with .MP4 extension, at 960x1080p side-by-side layout, but nothing was displayed, and black screen.
I think that just the AVCHD movies, with .MTS extension, that comes from Panasonic consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", can play the 3D videos via HDMI cable, not USB port.
But not the exported videos from PremierePro via USB port.
I seen this tutorial from David K Helmly:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/dhelmly#p/a/u/1/_YtF0c2bmkw
Dave export the video from PremiereProCS5 as "MPEG2-bluray" format with "Match Source Attributes (HighQuality)" Preset, and build the Bluray Disc in EncoreCS5, with the footage as MPEG2 with .m2v file extension:
    1) Anyone tried to play correctly in 3D, those MPEG2-.m2v side-by-side files, in Panasonic3DTV, with BlurayDiscReader?
    2) Why MPEG2.m2v side-by-side?
    3) The official standard stereoscopic 3D format, is not the .MVC (MultiViewCoding) for Bluray3D Disc?
    I am confused!
    Help!

  • What is the largest MMC and SD card that the Acer C710 can use, and what file formats can be used?

What is the largest MMC and SD card that the Acer C710 can read from and write to when inserted into the built-in 2-in-1 card reader? What file formats can be used with aforementioned MMC and SD cards?i.e. FAT, FAT 32, exFAT, etc.

Thank you for you help. I forgot to mention what is the highest class of SD card it can use at top speed, and are there any classes that will simply not work? An example answer would be, the highest speed that it can operate at clase 6, with class 8 being the highest class compatible; class 10 will not work. Also note, there are new cards faster than class 10. I have seen symbols like U1 and U3. I don't expect a discount computer to run an SD card faster than class 10, but it is important to know if U1 and U3 at least work.

  • What file formats can the AEBSn read?

I have two Windows PCs which will be connected via Ethernet to the AEBSn and a 2.16GHz MacBook(N-Enabled). I am planning on backing them up to an 500GB AirDisk, but I know that the AEBSn is not compatible with NTFS. Does anyone know if Windows can read HFS+ or if there is some other solution?
    Thanks,
    Sammy

    Sam,
You are mixing up disk file systems with network file systems.
Format the Airdisk as HFS. (disk file system)
The PCs will access it as a network device using SMB.
They won't know anything about the alien disk format - they only see the network file system which they recognize.

  • What file format can import?

imovie version is 7.1. I downloaded some clips from my cell phone onto hard drive and they show up as quick time files, play without difficulty on quicktime player. However, imovie won't import them, says they are not compatible. ?What file formats are compatible? ?Why would apple put quicktime and imovie on my hard drive, but not have them able to use same file type?
If it is important to know, I imported the files from my cell phone's card; I don't have a cable to attach my phone to USB so I don't have a way to directly try to download from the phone to computer. ?would I be able to import the files from my card to imovie?
    any other solutions?
    all help much appreciated

The MPEG4 video codec should probably work. However, the audio codec looks like a proprietary codec that is unlikely to work. But it is good news that it will play in QuickTime Player. If QuickTime can read it, you should be able to convert it to a format that iMovie can handle.
You could do this with QuickTime Pro ($30 from Apple). But there is a free program called MPEG Streamclip (from Squared 5) that will do this. Drag you clip into MPEG Streamclip and then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose h.264 or mp4 as your video codec. Choose uncompressed, or AAC, or AIFF, or MP3 as your video codec. AIFF is most likely to work. Keep the dimensions of the clip at "current".
Be aware that your file is about a quarter of the resolution of a standard definition TV set, so don't expect it to look great. But if you plan to look at it online rather than on a TV or DVD, it should be fine.

  • What video formats can iMovie edit?

I was wondering what video formats iMovie can edit? Such as mpeg 2, mpeg 4, etc...
the specific reason I'm asing is that I'm considering having some vhs tapes converted to DVD's, which I'm assuming would convert them to mpeg 2...and was wondering if they would be editable in iMovie?

    Hi Vapor_action:
    Stop!
Seriously-you will be MUCH better off if you have them convert them to DV tape for import to iMovie. DVD uses a different compression and it is a real pain to get them into iMovie. In fact, it is easier to get the VHS to iMovie than DVD in my opinion.

  • What file format can Media Services supports?

Does Azure Media Services support file format such as rmvb or 3gp ,and so on.I want to know what file format I can play with Azure Media Services exactly,Thanks.

The encoding for Windows Azure Media Services is currently based on Expression Encoder.  Expression Encoder's supported list is at

  • Ok, I give - what movie formats CAN I import?

I've been able to import almost anything to iMovie '06.
I have not been able to import any movies to iMovie '08; I've got QT Pro, and have tried exporting an .AVI in a bunch of different formats, but '08 won't recognize anything...
    Any help appreciated!
    thx
    Andrew

I've been able to import almost anything to iMovie '06.
There are three levels of QT compatibility:
    1) Playback Only -- these files (like muxed MPEG-1) can be played in QT based applications but cannot be properly converted to other QT compression formats or edited in QT based applications.
    2) Conversion Compatible -- these files will playback in QT applications and can be converted to other QT compatible compression formats but canned be edited natively.
    3) Fully compatible -- these files can be played, converted, and/or edited natively in QT applications.
To be imported into iMovie '06 and earlier versions, file need only be "Conversion Compatible" since these older applications automatically converted the files to DV compression for editing. Even MPEG-1 muxed files would be converted only losing the audio content during the import/conversion process. iMovie '08, on the other hand, will edit files natively in a number of different compression formats. Unfortunately, since these files are not converted during the import process, iMovie '08 will not import anything it cannot edit. So if either the audio and/or the video compression format in a movie is not editable, the the file will not be imported until converted by the the user.
I have not been able to import any movies to iMovie '08; I've got QT Pro, and have tried exporting an .AVI in a bunch of different formats, but '08 won't recognize anything...
iMovie '08 is known to be compatible with DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, and MJPEG video compression. Apple Video and Apple Animation compression formats can also be imported and edited but appear to have a bug in their export which is only rendered as a "black" display screen. Uncompressed, DV, "Big Endian", MPEG-4 audio (AAC), and, AIFF are known to be audio compatible while µ-Law and DVI ADPCM audio are not editable. Since AVI files can contain any number of audio and video compression formats in almost any combination, you need to ckeck to see what is and what is not compatible. A Casio MJPEG/DVI ADPCM file will not import/edit until the audio is converted to an editable format like AAC. The same holds try for a Kodak MOV file containing MPEG4/µ-Law.

  • What file formats can itunes play?

After looking at hundreds of posts, I got fed up and decided to ask these questions. What file formats does itunes play and how can you change/adjust them? I thought there was a place to do this when I installed itunes, but I haven't been able to find it so far.
    Thanks

Thanks for the help, but my question is still unanswered, I want to know how to associate different file types with iTunes, maybe I am not asking the question correctly, or don't know the terminology. I know that my real player can be made to associate different file types from the tools menu, I check off the boxes with the different extensions, like, .mp3, wav, midi, .ogg, etc... I thought there was a feature like this on iTunes, but I can't find it, is it only available when I install it?

  • What ebook formats can I use?

What are the different ebook formats that can be used with the ipad?
I have Kindle, but an esubscription I have from a book company gives a lot of options, not Kindle or PDF.
What do you use and why?

Each provider/app (iBook, Kindle, Nook) have their own proprietary copyright and can't read each other's. You can download epub files that are in the public domain (such as Project Gutenberg files) and read those on any of those apps. What company are you trying to download from? Have you checked their site to see what they say about readers on the iPad?

  • What file formats can I output to?

I want to create short  vidoes that can be inserted into slide shows.  MS Power Point would not accept files in pref. format.  How can I convert output from Premiere to a standard format?
    KC

Thank you for the step-by-step outline.
I am not familiar with the iPod Touch's video (wife has one, but do not think that she's ever used the camera feature?), but if you download and install the great, free file info utility, MediaInfo: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en (for PC), and run one of the files through it, you should get all of the details on the file. That would be useful in determining if you have the correct Project set up for that footage.
Now, processing WMV (either when trying to edit it, or Export/Share it) files will take some time, however that 1hr 20min. for an 8 min. Timeline, sounds extreme. That is why I wonder if there is a mis-match between the Source Files and the Project. If you started with an NTSC DV Standard 4:3 Project, I would NOT use any of the WMV HD (High Def) Presets, as that would instruct PrE to up-scale everything to HD, and THAT could take a very long time, plus yield less than desireable results.
Also, is that 1hr 20min. time what it actually took, or is that the projected time? Sometimes, the exporting module gets the estimated time very wrong, depending on the material being edited and the format/CODEC used to Encode.
Good luck, and let us know just a bit more, please.
