What effect does recording at 24 bit..44.1 have when bouncing to 16-bit CD

Hi,
Before I really start recording on Logic, I'd like to know if someone could clear this up for me.
I know CD quality is 16 bit 44.1. So if I know I am going to distribute my recordings onto CD in the end, why should I record at 24-bit?
and if i do record at a higher resolution than CD quality, and I mix the recording as hot as I can w/o distortion, what will happen to my quality when I mix to cd??

Re: Sample rates - 48k. Wow, that goes against everything I've read in years about the greater potential for aliasing artefacts in "non-multiple" SR conversion. Esp. software.
It depends on the software you are using for the
conversion. Many of the DAW's do a less than
steller job at this, Logic being one of the worst
at the moment. ( I have a feeling that the new
version of Logic will address this problem). As
it turns out Adobe and Bias make software
that does an excellent job at sample rate conversion
with no alaising artifacts. Adobe's software
is not available for the Mac and Bias's Peak Pro
is on the expensive side.

I've closed three credit card accounts and I'm paying off the balance on them What effect does that have on my credit score?

Don't think it will take a hit right now. It stays on your report for 10 years after you close it. Even though you pay it off, removing the cards will raise your available credit, leading to a higher UTIL %. But UTIL % is overrated. Long as its below 30%, should be fine.

    Check F1 for PCR.
Now open MODT PCR in PE02. U can find *, 1,2,3, etc... So these are the values which u had defined in the above table..
It means for each ES grouping u want the system to process differently....

What advantage does Edge Animate contribute to Flash Pro cc when programming a multi-player (2-4 players) interactive online game?  If Edge Animate can contribute that advantage to Flash Pro, are any of the other Edge products necessary to program a multi-player interactive online game?  This would be a PC based and not mobile game.

Additional comment by Phila Biblion: The game under consideration would be PC based and not mobile.

  • What effect does velocity have on sound?

im fairly new to java sound, and i was playing around with channels and notes, i made myself a nice little program that plays 1-16 notes at the same time on the 1-16 channels of an midi synthesizer.... anyways, all the notes are set randomly, but the velocity stays constant? would i notice any difference (between the same note) if i changed the velocity? what effects if any does the velocity have?

Velocity is how hard the key was struck. It can have all sorts of effects on the sound, but mostly it affects the volume.

  • What effect does "GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS" have on SQL AREA??

    Hi, all.
The database is 2 node RAC database (10.2.0.2.0) on 32 bit windows 2003 EE SP1.
Recently, the database has been suffering performance degrade due to
"library cache - related wait events" such as library cache pin and library cache lock. I also could see global cache related wait events(RAC).
I found that the default job on installation, "GATHER_STATS_JOB", is causing
a lot of invalidations of parsed sqls. Depending on the free memory of shared pool,
the 2 node RAC database hangs, even not allowing "log switch".
I think GATHER_STATS_JOB is very expensive in a RAC environment
because it gathers statistics all objects in a database.
Therefore, I disabled "GATHER_STATS_JOB". I could see the improvement
in terms of "sql area usage".
As an alternative, I would like to gather only application schema statistics
    by using the following procedure.
    -->DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS('NMSUSER',DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE);
    My question is the following.
    ● After gathering applicaion schema statistics, all application related SQL
statements are invalidated and are required to be re-parsed(hard parsing)??
The database is based on All-Rows optimizer mode (CBO).
    Thanks and Regards.

    Hi,
After gathering applicaion schema statistics, all application related SQL statements are invalidated and are required to be re-parsed(hard parsing)??Yes and no... it depends on the call of DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS ... you can specify not to invalidate your parsed statements...
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_stats.htm#sthref8114
    Parameter:
no_invalidate      Does not invalidate the dependent cursors if set to TRUE. The procedure invalidates the dependent cursors immediately if set to FALSE. Use DBMS_STATS.AUTO_INVALIDATE. to have Oracle decide when to invalidate dependent cursors. This is the default. The default can be changed using the SET_PARAM Procedure.Regards

  • What effect does a transform function have on the _parent command

    Hi
I am trying to load an image onto a symbol in a symbol, that
is spinning via timeline>transform and forms a symbol called
spinner1, spinner2. etc. I want every holder to be a different
image and one use suggested using the _parent function with a
substring function. Will the transform mess this up?
    I was suggested to try:
    holder.loadMovie("image"+this._parent._name.substring(7)+x);
Which as I understand it tells any instance of the symbol
"holder" to load an image called "image(the seventh letter of the
parent symbol)x" So for any instance of holder in spinner1 it will
    load image1x.
My images are assigned using the following:
    var image10:String = "logo/jamon.gif"; etc.
    "holder" is in "spinner_components"
The symbol "spinner" contains "spinner_components" spinning
    using the transform function.
Therefore I also tried the code as:
    holder.loadMovie("image"+this._parent._parent._parent_name.substring(7)+x);
    and also
    holder.loadMovie("image"+this._parent.._parent_name.substring(7)+x);
    Neither worked.
Is it the transform function that is messing it all up? or
    some syntax?
    Thanks

x is a varibale that increase each time it loops and changes
    the image displayed.
    x is 0, then 1 then 2
    spinner is spinner 0, spinner1, spinner2 etc.
thus images should load image00, image01, image02 etc. should
    load in spinner0's holder
and images 10,11, 12 etc. in spinner1's holder.
where should this code go - at holder or spinner_components
    or spinner.
You can see the final effect (I got arround this problem by
    making 8 almost identical spinners)
    at
    http://danielfield.freewebpage.org.
only my images don't load, like they did in the flash editor.
    (I've posted on this separately).
    thanks.

  • What effect does Audit logging have on system performance?

    Hi
I'm aware that the question might not be easy to answer, but is there any rule of thumb or any way to calculate what the enabling of the Security audit filtered on all users in all clients would have on the performance of the system?
We are trying to get all of our business to use the same audit logging settings, but we need to be able to show how performance might be affected by this change.
    Thanks
    Tomas

    Hi Thomas,
that is not hard to tell, but impossible to tell....
Please refer to SAP note #429343 .
Suggestion: switch on the log on one of your servers (dynamic switch) and trace the
    impact during normal daily business.
You will have then a basis for your decision.
If you activate it then generally, consider that every server should write into its own (local) directory to avoid big performance issues (network, file system).

  • What Effect Does Dma On/off Have On Dvd?

I know people recommend turning on DMA (which I have done), but i'm very curious as to what having DMA turned off would cause. Any advantages/disadvantages/known issues of having DMA turned on or off?

Without DMA enabled your burner will probably only be capable to burn at very low speeds. And even at low speeds you will run the risk of a failed burn.

  • What effect does resizing temp file on primary have on standby database?

We have a weekly job on Primary that resizes the temp tablespace.
STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT='AUTO' so am I correct in the assumption that the changes will be passed on and replicated on standby, even though they are temp files?
I am going live with DG in 2 weeks and keep thinking about questions such as this!
    Thanks

Writes to tempfiles aren't logged, so aren't shipped to the standby database. Writes to the tempfile on the primary causing the tempfile to extend won't cause the tempfile on the standby to extend. Tempfiles on the standby can be added/dropped/resized independently to the primary, even with STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT='AUTO'.
If the standby is purely for disaster recovery and left permanently in managed recovery mode, then the standby won't even need a tempfile until after it has been activated in a failover/switchover situation.

  • Tour got wet - here's what it does - how can I tell if it is "fried"?

My Blackberry Tour (from 2009 - Blackberry device manager says I am running BB OS 4.7.1)  got wet in a rainstorm (phone was outside, not submerged, the wetness indicator strip on the battery has not had a line appear on it but a tab inside the phone is all red) approx. 5 days ago - I did some of what I should have done and some of what I probably should not have done as far as patience, lack of patience, letting it dry (in gentle heat (no hair dryer, etc. or rice), giving it a try... Here's what it does - my main questions are - do I have any hope of rescuing my contacts data - unfortunately, never backed-up?  If so, how?:
    - Without the Battery in:  Connected by USB cable to my laptop (plugged-in, USBs powered) (Windows 7; Blackberry Desktop version 5 (installed from the CD that came with the phone)) finds the phone in Windows device manager (Blackberry Smartphone connected via USB), as above, Blackberry device manager shows status as connected, can identify the phone's PIN, Blackberry Desktop Manager can see that the phone is connected (can see it's PIN) but shows that the device is in Disconnected State, the screen on the phone shows the battery with red X through it.
    With a Battery In:
    - the battery with red X goes away,
typically starts with a red indicator light, then changes to black screen with hour glass,
    - then to black screen with "BlackBerry" and progress bar (showing boot progress?).
    - Boot progress bar completes,
    - the screen shows the Verizon logo, then
    - I get a flash (sometimes longer than others) of my desktop picture (it's one of the pre-loaded ones that is not on the micro-SD card, which I have removed).
    - At this point there is a new progress bar which indicates that the phone is checking security settings (I cannot remember verbatim what it says, but it typically completes and, since I probably shouldn't be powering it on, I will not do that to get an exact quote; suffice to say, that usually completes).
    - In terms of the desktop, I can also see that, in addition to my selected picture being there , the phone remembers my alarm time at 6:40AM).
    - A couple of times when I restarted it, I held down the escape/back button during the boot and launched the phone in safe mode ("safe mode" appeared at the top of the screen - a dialog appeared that explained safe mode and allowed me to click "ok" that I accepted that I knew what safe mode was.
    - Whether in safe mode or not, it usually at this point returned to the initial power-up sequence, in a loop, between the red indicator light and the hourglass animation - it does not return to the screen with the "BlackBerry" logo with progress bar, just the aforementioned loop.
At this point, I have tried two batteries - both Blackberry OEM, but with known/potential issues:  1.) the battery that was in the phone at the time it got wet - is approx. a year old (in terms of use), but was holding a reliable charge for 3-4 hours of talk time and
2.) an older battery which may have been the one that was replaced by battery 1 or may be older - it almost certainly had diminshed charge holding capacity and had started the bulge that lithium batteries develop as the near death.  These batteries were not obtaining much, if any, in the way of  charge while in the phone plugged in, but did, outwardly (light changed from orange to green on a Blackberry OEM charger form the D-X1 battery; have not done a test with a circuit tester, etc.), accept a charge via the outside the phone method.  When using the inside the phone method - prior to any outside charging - during the boot-up process, at the point at which I could see my desktop, the indicator light flashed with the orange light and/or the indicator that one typically gets when the battery is lacking needs a re-charge).
I have received and I am currently charging a new D-X1 Blackberry OEM battery, via the aforementioned Blackberry OEM outside the phone charger, for a go-around with the closest thing that I can get to a no problems battery.
OK, I am an **bleep**: I tried to re-boot the phone right away, I wasn't doing a back-up (though I thought that it was 1.) the reason that I was buying a Blackberry with an SD card - that this information was going to be portable and 2.) that I thought that the tech from Verizon, way back when I bought it, set the phone up to store the information on the SD card (no such luck, not there) or the SIM card - how could I test that? (which is, perhaps, why I thought that a backup was taking place).  Anyway, as you can tell, I have tried to be as descriptive as possible herein to say what I am seeing, because there are a number of other people with similar problems posting in various places, but, not really the same problems (they are getting stuck on a white screen, not getting all the way through the boot that I describe, had a phone in the pool all day, don't care about the data, just trying to save the phone (I was lax about an upgrade, because I liked my phone and I had a decent outlay of cash in the phone to start-off - was pushing to make it to this fall, hopefully not much longer, to get the newer Blackberry Classic coming out... hopefully with my contact listing being ported over).  That said, I have found plenty of evidence that suggests saving the phone is a real possibility, but the data may be more of a challenge.
Huge post, looking for thoughts - thanks for any consideration given to my problems.

if booted up with out all the way dry you might have fried it
put it in a bag of rice for a few days in a nice warm spot 90-100 F
then try it again if it still does the same thing then its toast

  • What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

I am having problems setting up airport extreme.
What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2+  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

Ok well I have looked around some more and have found this to be the most up to date official response to my question as seen at this link here:
    http://www.actiontec.com/support/product_details.php?pid=41#q27
Can I Bridge the Actiontec MI424WR router that Verizon provided, when I signed up for FiOS service?
The MI424WR does not have a bridging option, and neither Verizon nor Actiontec support attempting to bridge it.
The desire to bridge the MI424WR is based on a misunderstanding that it is a modem as well as a router. Actiontec does produce DSL Gateways that have a Transparent-Bridging option, which bypasses or disables the router function and allows the Gateway to act simply as a DSL modem, when it is enabled. Many consumers do not realize that with FiOS, the ONT (typically outside the home) is the device that handles changing the FiOS signal from Fiber to either Ethernet or Coax, and that the Router is just a Router, and if it was bridged or bypassed, it would be a device without a function. For most Verizon FiOS customers their service would completely stop if the MI424WR was bridged, because the Video on Demand service is dependent on it to work.
If your ONT is connected to the Actiontec MI424WR router via Coax, the MI424WR is required due to the Coax connection. But if the ONT is connected to the MI424WR via Ethernet, then in most cases some other router can be substituted for the MI424WR, and it can be removed."
So it looks like I will be calling Verizon support to see about getting the Ethernet connection installed and getting another modem...
