What else causes my MBP to log out on its own?

Using 10.9.2 on a MacBook Pro, the MBP's begun logging itself out when unattended. I return after a while to find the login screen. Any processes I'd left running or scheduled (e.g., Audio Hijack Pro to record from Firefox) either never started or were dumped.
Energy Saver (for Power adapter) is set to "Never" for Computer Sleep, and "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" is unchecked.
It happens regardless of whether the screen saver engages.
Security and Privacy, General, does have checked "Require Password 4 hours after sleep or screen saver begins," but this has happened in as little as under 20-30 minutes.
As shown on the Prefs imge, only three other panels should have *anything possibly* to do with logout—Users & Groups, Internet Accounts, and Network. I can't find anything else there that may cause this.
Suggestions? Thank you.

William, I started the MBP and left at about 8:25. After that, note the Console reports at 9:12 and 10:14.
Previously trying to resolve a similar issue, I do recall seeing "Could not find image named 'NSApplication'."
(I don't know what these mean, nor what to do about it. I think I got back on the MBP at about 10:00.)
Thanks.

  • Game Center keeps logging out on its own

Just started to do this at random, now it won't stop. I've tried everything I can think of, to no avail. Anyone else having this problem?

Yep, add me to the list. Been doing this for a few weeks now - just intermittently shows up the Game Center sign in screen when I start a game. Not every time, sometimes not for a few days. But it does keep happening when it has never happened in the past.
What's equally frustrating is that I have account modification turned off in parental settings and so it won't even let me sign in when the prompt comes up. It just doesn't work and shows no error message at all. So I have account modification turned on now which lets me sign in but the prompts still keep coming up.

Most people say that the problem is caused by GPU failure. For now, Windows (Vista) will start normally but I can only see the display using external monitor. I found out that the problem will happen again when the temperature gets too hot. The CPU and GPU idle temperature is around 60 degree celcius and around 95 degree celcius when they're busy. The screen will turn black when the temprature exceeds 95 degree celcius.
I already took out the fan, clean it thoroughly until there's no dust at all. Furthermore, I invested $25 for new thermal paste but the problem still happen. Even in power saver mode, the temperature range is 60 to 95 degree celcius and the laptop bottom side feels really hot to the touch.

The fan is running at 3250 RPM. CPU temperature is 54 degree celcius at idle, 90 when it;s busy.
When I increase the speed fan to the maximum setting, the tempetarute is just around 3 degrees lower. I think this is still hot isn't it? Besides, these are all done in 'power saver' mode. I know that the computer was not running that hot before.

    Hi Everyone,
I have had my Macbook pro for around 4 months now.
And I have had this problem from the beginning.
At night, often when I leave my machine, with software open and things active.
I come back in the morning to find my mac logged off and at the login screen.
Can anyone suggest what would be causing this?
    I have  MAC OSX 10.6.7
    8GB of DDR3 RAM
    2.8 GHZ Core i7 Processor
I have tried SMC resets and it doesnt seem to work.
Any ideas of why my mac book pro might be logging off on its own would be great!
    Thank you.

  • Mbp goes to sleep on its own. must be very sleepy. but why?

I just bought my macbook a month ago. It's a 13-inch mbp. Somehow my mbp keeps sleeping off on its own, even when I am using it.
    What is happening?

Assuming it's a new MacBook Pro, it comes with 90 days of Apple phone support, which you should consider using. The phone numbers are here.

Hi i have had a new back button put in and its still doing the same thing what else could it be

It's crazy right? I was going to post something about how I got it fixed, in a few days. But I'll let ya know:
After getting the run around at the Apple Store, telling me to get a refurbished phone, i went to a local game store based on word of mouth that the man who owns the store fixes iphones.
He took a look at it and replaced the dock connector and ribbon. He showed it to me and guess what? it was beginning to rust. I suspect the rust messed with the connectors and overall messed with my phone including the home button. Anyways he replaced it with a brand new one and voila! everything works fine. in fact, i've noticed - no kidding here - that my phone is performing better.
anyways, i never got water near or in my phone but truth it, humidity and dust etc can cause a tiny amount of rust to build up over months and years. iphones are not perfect, so get it checked. it's a hardware issue most likely.

  • Excel causing my mac to log out suddenly

Every once in a while while I'm entering data in an Excel spreadsheet, everything suddenly goes blue and I'm automatically and instantaneously logged off my computer. Everything (all my apps, etc.) shuts down/quits and I have to login again and relaunch everything. Any ideas why this is happening/what to do to fix it?

I'm in a similar funk where Excel 2004 causes WindowServer to crash and logs me out. Tried everthing here including clearing ram, disabling dup fonts, cleaning login items, repairing disk permissions, reinstalling 10.6.1, and clearing preferences. Have sent crash files to Apple product specialist and he's going to "send it to engineering". However, I keep getting told by the specialist that if the application is crashing the system they won't be able to help me and I have the choice to either upgrade to Office 2008 (i.e. spend more $) or stop using that application. He said that Apple would never claim that they support Office 2004. I wonder why they sold it through their stores then. I'm very disappointed at such a response considering this application is the most used productivity software! Wondering if I was duped by the mac-vs-pc ad where they make fun of PC tech support problems due to 3rd party hw/sw providers, or the one where the Yoga instructor is mad that her applications cripple her PC. If OS X has the same problem, does this constitute false advertising? Seriously considering going back to PC if this can't be fixed.

  • Stop MBP from logging out

I can't seem to stop my MacBook Pro from logging itself out after 30 minutes of inactivity. Obviously, I have tried unchecking the box "log off after 30 minutes of inactivity" under 'Security and Privacy' -> 'Advanced', but this does not help - or only for a little while. The box keeps checking itself (and setting itself back to the default time of 30 minutes - I have also tried to change that) and my computer keeps logging itself out. It's very annoying and I haven't been able to find any solutions for it on fora like these. Hope somebody has an idea!
    I have a Late 2013 MacBook Pro running on OS X Yosemite, 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DD3

This seems to be the problem! The MacBook was provided to me by my employer. I can see under "Profiles" that they changed the login settings about a month ago (see screenshot). I will contact the IT-department and see what I can do about it - it's a really very annoying setting, given that I am the only one using this computer.
Many thanks for the quick help!

  • What else causes the question mark icon?

I just replaced the hard drive in my early 2008 iMac. On start up I'm still getting the question mark icon like I did when the original hard drive failed. I know that may have not gotten the connections in all the way. Also, the new drive could be bad. They didn't say it was refurbished or used, but it was pretty inexpensive.
I was told that my original hard drive was bad by a Certified Apple Reseller. Is there ANYTHING else it could be? Please help!

    There are four possibilites:
    1. PRAM problem. Try OPTION booting.
    2. Directory corruption. Try using Disk Utility or other similar utility to repair the hard drive.
    3. System files have been deleted or damaged. Reinstall OS X.
    4. The internal drive has died or is otherwise non-functional.
