What equipment is required to calibrate PXI cards.

I need to know what all is required, hardware and software wise, for me to calibrate the following NI items in my cal lab:
PXI-1045, PXI-6508, PXI-6552, PXI-8331, and PXI 6251.
What I have now is an old version 2.0 of Calibration Executive and the software that came with these cards (NI-488.2, GPIB-VXI/C Legacy Documentation and NI-VISA Libraries Version 3.0). My software guy also has the NI Developer Suite from 2003. In the lab we have calibrators (5700,5720,4708,9500) and meters (34401,3458,1281,8508) and scopes (TDS) and PC controllers running XP with NI PCI-GPIB cards.
I realize I will need to get an upgrade for the Cal Exec, I need to know what all else is required to decide if it is going to be justifiable to gear up for this capability. Any information, including prices, is appreciated.

Hi Poornima -
The SCXI chassis and equipment are used to condition signals sent to and from the DUT.  After being conditioned, the signals are sent to your DAQ device to be digitized and read into the computer.  As such, the SCXI chassis only needs to be cabled to the DAQ device.  You can do this using a shielded E-series cable (SH68-68-EP) and an adapter block (SCXI-1349).  These will connect the leftmost device in your SCXI chassis to your DAQ card, which must reside in the rightmost slot of your PXI chassis.  There is detailed information about SCXI connections in the "SCXI Quick Start Guide", which can be found in the Start Menu documentation for DAQ.
The GPIB connections will be made in your PXI chassis.  Either the embedded controller of the chassis or a PXI-GPIB card will have the port connections needed.
There are also detailed text instructions for making the connections in the "Calibration Executive Help" file, which you can find in the program's Start menu group.  Inside this file, browse the tree to "Device Calibration Procedures » Modular Instruments » High-Speed Digital".  The instructions given here explain step-by-step how to connect your equipment for both scenarios (combo chassis and separate SCXI chassis).

  • IVI error will not run PXI cards calibration

I had an NI automatic update done a week or so ago and it wiped out my ability to run NIMAX, Calibration Executive, and see any of my PXI card plugins. I am using a PXI-1033 mainframe and calibrating multipe PXI cards. I was able to fix NIMAX and I can now see my mainframe and cards in the mainframe, but I cannot communicate with the cards. When I start my computer I get a "found new hardware wizard" looking for a PCI Device but have no luck when I downloaded all the drivers once again. In MAX the card is there but says "windows does not have a driver associated with my device" even after installing it three times. When I tried running Calibration Executitve I get the error message "ProcessModel\QueryDriverVersions\specificDrivers\cex_Read_NI_SCOPEVersion.viat step QueryDriver Versions LabView: The VI is not executable. I have a Mac Pro earley 2008 with 16gb ram and the original ATI Radeon 2600 XT 256mb ram card.
After searching everywhere and finding no helpful info I just went to amazon and serched video cards for Mac Pro. The Asus HD 6450 silent and others came up. They all show PC compatibatily but since Mac is now PC structure I think allmost any card will work that is PCI-e.
I purchased the Asus HD 6450  for $39.00 with $10 rebate and it worked great, ( plug and play ).
My startup is way faster than before and graphics are way better.
The DVI works great with my Viewsonic and if you need to connect more than one monitor the DVI and VGA are secondary. If your main monitor is HDMI than you will have no problems using more than 2 screens in sharing mode.

  • What is the required hardware to control AMC servo amplifier model 30A20AC?

    Hi everybody,
What is the required hardware to control "Advanced Machine Controls" servo amplifier Series 30A-AC, model 30A20AC?
The interface hardware should connect to a laptop, and run in real-time.
    Tnank you

    Hi Nkhbeik,
I went to ni.com/motion >> choose NI Motion Hardware.  I then filtered out the hardware that did not support Real-Time by clicking on Real-Time on the left hand side of the page.  There are a number of results returned.  Depending on how many axis you need, you can filter the results further.  Any of the results can be used with the appropriate connector, either a cRIO chassis (for the 9505), a PXI Chassis (for PXI formfactor), or a PCI Extension device for a PCI card.  I hope this helps!

  • Measurement and Automation cannot find PXI cards

When I run Measurement and Automation and look at Devices & Interfaces I get the 'MAX Database Connection Error'.  I have followed the steps to 'uncorrupt' the database, but I can not go any further than to finding out that no such file or folder exists.
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\MAX\Data Dictionaries\Last
When I look for this location I find that the MAX folder does not exist.
How do I procede?  Are there otherways I can make Devices and Interfaces show me which PXI cards I have?
    Thanks,

    Hey Atomless
I am sure you look at this KB. You did try everything and it is still not detecting any hardware. I was wondering if you have installed all the required drivers. If you do not know what driver to install, go ahead and post what type of hardware you have and then I can tell you what driver you need.

  • What does it take to build smart card applications?

Just out of interest I was wondering what does it take to build smart card applications:
    - Can I do it at home with my PC or do I have to have access to expensive hardware?
    - How difficult is it to master given that I do it on my own with no help. Does it involve a lot of hardware issues?
    - If hardware is required (a smart card and a cable connection), where do I get it and how much does it cost?

    Let me rephrase my question.
I understand that the deployment process may not be so easy. That does not disturb me.
I just want to know whether I'll experience hardware probelms. If reading/writing to the card involves putting it inside and taking it outside from the device just like a floppy disk without any complications, then I don't have any worries.
By the way, does the reader device is used for both reading AND writing?

  • Which is better, many PXI cards or fewer PXI cards with more SCXI cards?

I have a pretty basic question.  Which is "better", using multiple PXI cards for analog inputs or a single PXI card and multiple SCXI cards?  For example, if I have say 100 channels to sample (all at the same rate), I could use 2 6225s at 80 ch each.  Or I could use 1 6220 and 4 SCXI 1100s (32 ch each).  What are the pros and cons with either approach?  Keep in mind sample rate probably isn't an issue (less than 1 kHz) but it is the same for all channels.
    Thanks.

The pros/cons will depend on your application now and in the future.  I recommend contacting your local NI sales representative.  Synchronizing across a PXI system is easy to do via the backplane.  There are PXI/SCXI combo chassis available, you could use PXI multifunction DAQ cards and then SCC for signal conditioning for thermocouples for additional functionality later.  There are many possibilities that may be best discussed with your sales representative.

  • Document "Is my PXI card hybrid slot compatible?"

Hi, I would like to ask for some clarification and make a suggestion for Document 4S3F9Q9G, "Is my PXI Card Hybrid Slot Compatible (PXIe-Ready)". In this document, there is a series of statements about the compatibility of various card types with various slot types.
    Link: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/50C189CF7BF8884B86257515007184F4
I know that the document only intends to say whether any type of card is compatible with a PXI Hybrid Slot, it almost answers the question of what all cards are compatible with what all slots, which is the more general question I am trying to answer as I try to juggle devices and chassises.
Knowing basically nothing about the PXI standards, I attempted to produce a compatibility matrix from these statements alone, and I'd like to see if I arrived at the correct conclusions. I'm not sure if I used the conventional nomenclature, but it should be clear from the statements why I used those terms. See the attached PDF.
There are the pictures at the bottom where you can play a game of hocus focus to figure out which cards fit in which slots, but I think it would be much clearer with a matrix.
So my suggestions for the document are:
add/edit the statements provide information about "blank" cells
add a completed compatibility matrix for quick reference.
Indicate on the matrix, or reference, the standard symbols indicating slot types, used below the slots of a PXI chassis
    Thanks,

Great to hear that it looks correct.  I assume that you mean that I have not introduced any erroneous information.
But the reason that I submitted this message here, rather than directly on the page, is because I believe that my matrix is incomplete, and so I was hoping for some expert feedback on that and a quick commentary about why.
    For example:
    - Will the PXI system timing slot accept standard connector PXI cards, 32-bit compactpci cards, or hybrid compatible cards?
    - Is it possible to plug a PXI standard connector module into a PXI hybrid slot?
Just for completeness, the text and matrix don't answer these questions, but I don't actually care about them.
    - Is it possible to plug a PXI system timing module into a PXI hybrid slot?
    - Will a standard PXI slot accept system timing cards, 32-bit compact pci cards, or hybrid compatible cards?

  • How to alternate data storage into 2 arrays with an analog square wave input? (seems that the retriggerable function is not supported by my PXI card)

    Hi!
I'm trying to have an analog square wave input determine where data gathered from a second analog input channel is stored.  I want data to be stored to one array during the high signal period of the square wave and data to be store to another array during the low signal period of the square wave.  The square wave I'm using is of constant frequency (8.3 Hz).  I believe I need to use an analog input wave as opposed to a onboard clock or other timing mechanism because my square wave is also being used to modify the input going into my experimental setup.  Thus the data storage needs to be correlated to the timing of the data modification in the experiment.  I tried to use the retriggerable property node function, but receive error 200452, which I think means that my PXI card (6115) can't support this retriggerable function.  So I'm looking for other ways to accomplish alternating data storage in response to an incoming analog square wave.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated... Thanks!  (I'm also quite new with LabView so toddler-type explanations would probably be most useful  )

    Hello Shari,
I am looking at your situation and it seems very intriguing.  after downloading your file I have a couple questions to ask if you don't mind answering.
Currently in your program you are only taking one sample of data at a time,  this could lead to uneven sampling.  Would you like to sample at a consistent rate  (say 10 Kilosamples of data a second?)  if so what type of card are you using?
Also,  Do you want your data to be in a 2-D array of data?
    Best Wishes,

  • Installation of third party PXI Card supplied by Chroma

The problem is that I get the initialization error while I install the PXI-52911
The installation process done during installation is as follows.
1 I have installed LAB View 6.1 in the PXI Controller without the PXI 52911card
The NI Daq version is NI DAQ 6.9.2f4,
    The NI VISA 2.6.0
    IVI Engine 1.83 version.
2 After installing the Lab view software I have installed the Latest driver software downloaded from FTP site.
3 Then I have installed the PXI Card and it got detected in the system.
    4. When I checked in the NI VISA the details were as shown below.
    5. After checking this I tried in the software Given by the supplier . I get an error as displayed below.
    In this regard pl
ease let me know what as to how this problem can be solved.

    Application Engineer,

    Hi Suresh,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. It sounds to me like there are three possible problems.
First, it is possible that there is a configuration problem with VISA. According to Chroma's webpage, this device does use NI-VISA. If this is true, the device should be listed in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) under PXI System when it is properly installed and configured. If this device is not listed in MAX, then we need to make sure VISA is configured to recognize your device. In MAX, select the Tools menu, and select NI-VISA, VISA Options. Select VISA Passports, and make sure there is a checkmark next to "nivipxi.dll - VISA library passport for PXI." Now, select VISA settings and make sure the option to "Show all PXI/PCI Devices
    accessible to VISA" is enabled.
Second, it is possible that NI-VISA or the software for your PXI card is corrupt. I suggest you uninstall your PXI device, NI-VISA, and the software for your PXI device. Once your system is clean, I recommend you reinstall NI-VISA, NI-IVI, and the instrument drivers for your PXI device. Once all of the software is installed, then you can reinstall the hardware.
I hope that helps. If that does not solve your problem, I will try to help you as much as I can, but it may be necessary to contact Chroma.

  • Pxi cards on 1000b cahssis not detected under windows 98

my mxi-3 card is being detected on windows startup (mxi-3 optimization software is running correctly) but all other pxi cards on my 1000b pxi chassis are not detected.

    Anis,
Well, I always prefer to try the simplest things first. In this case, that would be fully powering down the chassis and the computer. Then powering on the chassis first, and a few seconds later, powering on the computer. If this doesn't help, then you would probably want to try any or all of the following troubleshooting steps to try and isolate the problem:
    - Try removing all but the mxi-3 and one other card from chassis and then try booting up.
    - Try placing the pci mxi-3 card in a different slot in the computer.
    - Try uninstalling and reinstalling all the NI software on your computer. (better yet, format and reinstall).
    - Try the pci mxi-3 card in a different computer.
    - Try a different set of mxi-3 cards (if available)
    - Check
device manager to see if there are any errors or warnings.
So those are the things that I would try. If after all that you still have no luck connecting you may have a hardware problem and need to RMA (Return Materials Authorization) your hardware.
Please post back with what you find.

  • Logging into Windows Server 2012 from Remote Desktop requires "Connect with Smart Card"; how do I disable this?

I am using pretty much the default setup. I cannot figure out how to disable this. I do not want to use smart cards.
    Any ideas?

Does this mean you're trying to RDP from an XP box, therfore have the Remote Desktop feature on the server set to "less secure"? Sounds like thats what disables network authentication, prompting the Smart Card request.
If you simply click to login as a different user, you can login without a smart card, to include the same user as was being prompted for the card.
I expect if you choose the Remote Desktop feature requires network authentication on the server, the smart card requirement goes away, but you'll need to login from Win7 or newer clients. Not sure where Vista falls, probably okay too.

  • Change Individual Material - What are the required parameters?

    All,
I've just started using ES Workplace to test out some of the packaged SAP services.  I've been able to successfully use the "Find Material Basic Data by Elements" service to search for materials.  But now I'm having trouble with the "Change Individual Material" service and getting it to do anything.  Specifically, I can invoke the service from WS Navigator and it says that it executed successfully but the fields that I was attempting to chagne are not changed on the material.
    So, I have two questions:
1.) Where is the documentation for each service which defines which fields are reqruied for the service method to execute successfully?  I don't see it anywhere.
2.) For this service in particular, what fields are required for the service to execute?  Say, for example, that I want to change the volume of a material.  Which fields need to be populated?

I can see some sample test data is also given there, please see link posted in previous post (but for ERP).
Regarding your question about so many fields required to update certain data then please remember these services are created to be very generic so you pass lot of data which you may not want to update but only change field which you want to update and it should work.
Same service you can use to update different attributes of Individual Material.
One more thing, you are reading data using material service and trying to update individual material, is it correct? i thought they are two different thing.
