What exactly does deauthorise mean?

After changing a number of computers over the years (like you do) my iTunes now says ive used my 5 up and need to de-authorise one.
Obviously I cant de-authorise those I've sold on, so what happens next?
If I de-authorise this new MacBook Air will I have problems with anything in the future regarding downloads, etc.
Thanks
Steve.

OK, ignore me. I've since seen threads on it, followed the links and solved it.
Didn't mean to waste anybodies time,
Steve.

  • HT4859 when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer?

when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer? Please help me and answer either or both question detailed thanks

Normally when you sync your device it is automatically backed up to your computer as the first step in the sync process.  When you choose to start backing up your device to iCloud, iTunes stops automatically backing it up on your computer when you sync.  That's what the message is telling your; that you are now backing up to iCloud and not to your computer each time you sync.  You can still manually back up to your computer any time you want by going to the Summary tab and clicking on Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.
You can still sync your device as you did before, it just will no longer back up automatically when you do.

I sended my iphone for repair, and im being sent a replacement phone what exactly does that mean?

It means you will get a refurbished iPhone in exchange for the faulty one you sent in.

  • What exactly does "delivers" mean? ):

I ordered an iPad mini on the 7 Nov, and right now the status is still processing items, not even close to preparing shipment yet.
but it says it delivers: 26/11/2012 - 3/12/2012. so my question is what exactly does "delivers" mean?
the time that it takes to reach you? or the time it takes to be prepared to get ship to you?
because i thought it takes at least 1-2 weeks to get shipped. but apparently it's not prepared for shipping yet. ):
    Cheers

It should mean the anticipated date of delivery to you.  This has to take account of preparing for shipping.   Delivers would seem to me to be a firm statement.   (But don't hold me to that)  .

  • What exactly does 'throw' mean

I was looking over stuff on exceptions and I was wondering, exactly what does 'throw', (as in 'throwable' etc.) mean with respect to the java language?
Is it so obvious that no-one ever bothered to give the word a definition? I cannot find a description of what it is anywhere.

OK guys thanks for the input.
    jmccon and YoGee
    I wonder why didn't I spot the glossary :o)
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/information/glossary.html
    throws
A Java(TM) programming language keyword used in method declarations that specify which exceptions are not handled within the method but rather passed to the next higher level of the program.
    Pete_The_Hat
I like your suggested description ("i guess the naming came from "my program keeps throwing errors",... "),
but the essential thing I think is, it's throwing it to 'the next higher level of the program'.
I find it very annoying when I see something refered to in terms of itself
(as in everything I had read).
Sort of recusive description I suppose.
    Like...throw
A Java(TM) programming language keyword that allows the user to throw an exception or any class that implements the "throwable" interface.
    Thanks

  • What exactly does itunes mean when it says "apply sort field"

In iTunes when I select a track [or several tracks] and then Right click i see an option at the bottom of the resulting menu that offers to "apply sort field", when I select this option a sub menu comes up offering several fields for me to choose from, the options are, All matching fields, Same Album, Same Artist, Same Album Artist, Same Composer, Same Show. If I choose one of these options iTunes issues a warning that it's about to alter some of the files in my library. Can anyone explain exactly what is about to happen and how this is different from simply clicking any of the column headers in iTunes so it will sort the tracks on the screen?

The sort fields are used to control the order in which items are listed within their colums rather than which column the display is currently sorting on. iTunes automatically fills some of these in so an album or artist that begins with a, an or the is normally sorted as if the article wasn't there, e.g. so *The Beatles* get sorted under B and not T. In other cases you might decide that you want, for example *David Bowie* sorted as *Bowie, David*. If you set the Sort Artist, Sort Album Artist and Sort Composer (assuming this is one of his tracks) to *Bowie, David* on just one track, then right-click and chose *Apply sort file > All matching fields*, then iTunes will look at each track that has *David Bowie* in the Artist field and put *Bowie, David* in the Sort Artist field, also for each track that has *David Bowie* in the Album Artist field it will put *Bowie, David* in the Sort Album Artist field, and for each track that has *David Bowie* in the Composer field it will put *Bowie, David* in the Sort Composer field.

  • Startup Disk Full. What exactly does this mean and what can I do about it?

I was downloading some TV shows from the itunes store when my computer informed me that my startup disk was almost full and iTunes informed me that there was an error with the downloading because my disk was full. I assume this means that the hard drive memory is full, but I don't know if there is anything more specific I should know. We've had this computer for several years and recently updated to Snow Leopard and iLife 09. I have a lot of music and pictures, and I would rather not have to delete a lot of them to free up more memory space. Are there other things I can do to clear memory space or add more?

    Hi
+"Are there other things I can do to clear memory space or add more?"+
Yes. Either replace the internal drive with a much larger one or purchase an externally attached drive (USB or Firewire or both) and transfer all your pictures and movies onto that instead. Either way will involve an outlay of some sort? Another way would be to start backing up less important photos, music and movies onto CD or better still DVD. You do have a built-in DVD Burner of some description. You could use it as that is primarily one of the reasons it's there for. Once you've backed up desired data start deleting it from the internal drive.
It's important to leave some free space on the drive that contains the Operating System. Not doing so will invariably cause potentially major problems in terms of performance and the proper running of your computer. Think of it this way. If you were to constantly stuff yourself full of food would you be able to function properly or as well as you normally do? Not a great analogy but should give you enough of an idea?

  • Arsenic free glass in laptops?  What exactly does it mean?

Apple announces that its laptops use arsenic free glass.
What is the difference in comparison with the other, conventional glass?
That is, what +amount of arsenic (per computer)+ is eliminated in Apple laptops compared to laptops built with the conventional glass containing arsenic?
    OliviaPS

You can find additional information in this previous thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1454622&tstart=45
The issue probably isn't so much the amount of arsenic that might be contained in a single screen (though when factored over millions of displays it's not insignificant) but more the use, or in this case elimination of use, of arsenic in the manufacturing process and hence the elimination of thousands of pounds of arsenic-inclusive industrial waste.

  • Welfare Cases what exactly does priority mean?

We have been awaiting a fix on a welfare case since last Saturday, first reported on Friday 20th but still no commitment from BT as to when the service will be restored. All we get is excuses from the BT call centre along with promises of call backs to update and provide a fix date but so far nothing we have been promised has happened. I asked for a senior manager to call me on this and despite promises still nothing.
Given that a Welfare case should be fixed within 24-48 hours what on earth are BT playing at?
Without a successful resolution of this today, I am going to raise a case with Ofcom.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the views. Appreciate that some fixes are considerably more difficult than others but the main problem I have here is that we have had very little feedback from BT as to the cause apart from advising that it is an exchange problem and that they would need to get a frame engineer in to fix. The story then changed and they said that there was a problem with an overhead cable. This story then changed again and they went back to the Frame Engineer having to rebuild and reconfigure cabling within the exchange.
We have had so much BS from BT that we do not trust any of their answers of estimates of fixes. They have promised absolute fixes 3 times over the past 5 days and we have yet another deadline of midnight tonight, promised 10 minutes ago after the call centre spoke to the frame engineers (apparently).
For a communications company BT are not communicating and even when we do manage to get someone who apparently is trying to do something about it, we are the ones who have to chase up again to fnd out why the latest promised fix time has not been achieved.

  • What exactly does getColumnCount() mean?

Calling getColumnCount() on JTable and TableColumnModel returns the number of columns being displayed. On the other hand, TableModel's getColumnCount(), if I'm correct, should return the number of columns actually in the data. My question is, if I have a JTable with the TableColumnModel set up but no actual row in my TableModel, should my TableModel's getColumnCount() return 0? When is TableModel.getColumnCount() invoked anyway?

The getColumnCount method is called when the table is
    contructed.
The system first verifies the number of columns
(getColumnCount) and rows (getRowCount). What's the verification for?
When there're no rows in the table the getRowCount()
must return 0.But the question is, what should getColumnCount() return?
The question posted on this thread http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=57&thread=170371 asks a similar question, but had no answer. I'd like to see someone answer that thread in this thread.

  • What exactly does "syncing" mean??

To my knowledge, syncing is about transferring files from one device to another, is this correct??
What I'm trying to do is to transfer files from my MacBook to my iPad. I followed all the instructions:
I connected my iPad to my computer using a USB drive.
Then, I opened iTunes and under "Devices", I clicked on my iPad.
Some stuff began to download, or, if it wasn't downloading, it called it "syncing."
Let's say I click on any tab. I click on the "Music" tab.
    Then I click "Sync."
After I do that, nothing shows up on my iPad. Is there more I have to do???
This is pretty much all I've done, as no new box turns up, or nothing happens.
I seem to have enough capacity, as there seems to be some free space.
    But...nothing happens...
    Am I missing a step???
    Thanks in advance.
    Bonnie

    Thanks to both of you:
    Davinox:
Thanks, I didn't know you could delete files from one device and have it deleted on another.
    randi:
You know, I did click on "Sync music."
I'm wondering, could I be looking on the wrong place on my iPad to find my synced files??? On my iPad I clikc on iTunes, then "Purchased", and yet, nothing shows up...
The other day, I did sync my info, and it worked. But I think I did something where I deleted my stuff on my iPad or chose an option to not have my stuff synced....could that be it??? I don't remember what I did.
But thank you for the link.
