What exactly is a "Data Session"?

I was reading the pricing plan for a product in Aus called Amaysim. It states that they charge a minimum of 1MB per session. They also state that the length of a session is determined by the phone not the network. Is this true? And if so how does iPhone determine a session? Does a session remain open as long as the phone is awake and terminate when it sleeps? Or is each new site I browse, or each different application Internet usage, a new session?

I can't help but think rufus001 is being misunderstood here.
On older phones, even with 3G there was never the constant use of a data connection. My old phones would literally warn me that they were going to initiate a WAP connection. With the iPhone though it assumes it can make use of cellular data whenever it wants hence the massive international data bills in the first few months of the iPhone and then the options to turn it off when you're roaming.
rufus001, I don't have an answer for you but I would suspect that the iPhone is initiating and tearing down data connections on a fairly regular basis rather than keeping a single connection active. If they are rounding up to 1MB I'd think you'd go through your allowance pretty quickly on it if you use the iPhone as it was meant to be used. Email for example - mine polls a single account once every 15 minutes and if that counts as a single session that's 96MB a day according to that document.

  • What exactly is using data and how can i keep it from using data when im not using my phone?

So i have an iphone 4 and i have used a lot of data this month(like almost 2GB) and i have barely touched my phone outside of wifi areas. I always shut down any apps that use data like youtube, funnypics, facebook, etc. but i do play some games during my breaks at work but they dont require data to play so to my knowledge those games arent using data(or are they?) i just need some help figuring out exactly what on my phone is using data all the time so i can turn it off. Is it icloud? Emails on auto update? Offline game apps(minecraft, sonic dash, the Mr. Series games?) Do all apps use data regardless? Somebody please answer me. And No im not buying a bigger data plan. 2GB is my limit but it seems as though i am hitting that easily with my iphone but the rest of my familyis usually miles away from 2GB and they all have Samsung Galaxy S4s.

My first stop would be in Settings > Cellular if you are on iOS 7.  This has a lot of goodstuff. you can turn off cellular data as a who, see your current usage and even see which apps have used data and how much.  You can even turn off individual apps form using cellular data (restricting them to wifi only).
    I hope this helps!

  • What exactly should disabling data services do ?

When I disable data services, it completly disconnects my device (BB Curve 9300) from internet - even if WiFi connection is active, no application (Browser, Messages/emails,...) can connect to internet anymore. BIS also stops working (even though it was working over wifi before I disabled data services).
My expectation was disabling Data Services will only disable internet connection/data transfer via mobile network (GPRS, Edge, 3G,...) - the option to disable data services is in "Mobile Network Options" menu. But in reality it disables all data transfers, including WiFi.
    Is this intended behaviour ?

Oops... I was totally wrong about what the Library actually is. I thought it contained stuff that's actually within "Users".
SuperDuper is definitely what I wanted. I was having problems because I was trying to make a "bottom-up" collection of files: compiling all the relevant material, and that leads to all kinds of hidden files and stuff that I don't know to add. SuperDuper does it in a top down way: I can select a script to copy everything, and then adjust the script so the Picture folder is NOT copied. Problem solved, I think. (One page in the SuperDuper manual explains how to do this, but unfortunately my first scan of the manual missed that section!)
I've tried booting from the Picture/Movie/Music less external HD partition, and it works exactly as I wanted: the system's there but there are none of the memory-hogging collections.
Extra bonus is that I've now set this script up to clone the System and Applications components every two weeks.
Note that you CANNOT tailor things this way with the free version of SuperDuper; you have to pay for the license.
What I've got now: 80GB external HD has a 30GB partition with everything cloned (twice a month) EXCEPT for the Pictures, Movies, and Music folders. A 45GB partition currently has the music library (at about 30GB) and will probably collect other backups. And my laptop hard drive (nonpartitioned) now has 40GB of free space, to which in a few days (once I'm sure everything's working smoothly) I'll add about 10GB worth of burnt photo libraries.
I'm still a bit confused about "System" terminology: the System Folder with the OS, vs the System Disk, which I suppose is everything all together. However, that doesn't really matter now.
    Thanks for everyone's help.

  • What EXACTLY uses the data?

I have an Iphone 4S with 16gb, hubs has Iphone 4 with 8. I need to help him manage his data better cause he is almost to the 2gb limit. This resets every month right? and are the games he is playing using up his data or is it pictures and text? I have not found an answer and have searched this sight until I am dizzy.
I know that when I plug into the ITunes store online it will show what is using memory on the phone (his 8GB) but...I do not know how to decipher the usage analysis given in the Verizon website.
    Any help would be appreciated.

My iPhone 4s was stolen this weekend and I did the Remote Lock.  What exactly does that do?  Also, if i do the Remote Wipe will that erase all of my data and impede anyone from ever using the phone?

The remote lock locks the iphone with a passcode that you set. By remote wiping the device it will simply restore it and clear it of all its data, but by doing this it will prevent you tracking it and communicating with it (e.g. remote locking it) in the future

  • Can you explain what exactly cdc mean in data services......?

    Hello!
I would like to know  what exactly change data capture (cdc) mean in data services......?

    Hi sudheer kore
CDC is basically a technical term - Change data capture. We use a few approaches to work capture changed data during ETL process. This can be called incremental approach/ delta loading of data.
    Source Based CDC
-Using a timestamp, date, datetime, or int column to uniquely identify the next "band" of rows to be loaded into the delta process in combination with a status table, global variable, and where clauses of the query transform. This is demonstrated in the Tutorial file provided with Data Services in the CDC chapter.
-Using the Database native CDC functionality, available in Oracle, SQL Server and I believe Attunity
Changes are replicated to change tables in the source, marked as insert/update/delete. Data Services can natively read these tables through the use of CDC Datastore objects and Map_CDC_Operation transform.
    Target Based CDC
-Must be used if the methods above are not available. The Table_Comparison transform is capable of comparing all source records to the target table to determine if an INSERT or UPDATE is required for that row.
Few links that would explain this better

  • How do I determine what is using the data on my iphone 5c?

In looking at our bill we have one person that is using almost triple the amount of data that the other users are, and we need to figure out exactly what it is that is eating all of the data on his phone as he doesn't have any clue what it could be. Any help to determine what is using the data on an iphone 5c?

emilyki, look no further. We can help you look into this data usage issue. First of all, we recommend that you disable data for a few applications on that iPhone 5C device to ensure that the applications are not depleting data from your allowance when not in use. You can do this by tapping Settings>Cellular>Scroll down to all the downloaded applications and disable data for applications.
Additionally, you also have the option of disabling data in Settings>Cellular when you're not using data or connected to Wi-Fi.
Lastly, you may view the data usage sessions for that line online at My Verizon to determine when data is used the most. http://bit.ly/xB4iTc Keep us posted.

  • What exactly is the difference between enqueue, latch & lock

Can someone explain in simple words (with example if possible) what exactly is the difference between enqueue, latch & lock?
I have gone through documentation & other links, but just not able to figure out the exact & clear difference between these three..
    Cheers,
    Kunwar

In addition to links provided by Sb and nice explanations by Aman, i would like to add below :
1.Latches and enqueues are lightweight serialization devices used to coordinate multi-user access to
shared data structures, objects and files.
Latches are locks that are held for extremely short periods of time, for example the time it takes to modify
an in-memory data structure. They are used to protect certain memory structures, such as the database
block buffer cache or the library cache in the shared pool (as described in Chapter 2, Architecture). Latches
are typically requested internally in a ‘willing to wait’ mode. This means that if the latch is not available,
the requesting session will sleep for a short period of time and retry the operation later. Other latches may
be requested in an ‘immediate’ mode, meaning that the process will go do something else rather than sit
and wait for the latch to become available. Since many requestors may be waiting for a latch at the same
time, you may see some processes waiting longer than others. Latches are assigned rather randomly, based
on the ‘luck of the draw’, if you will. Whichever session asks for a latch right after it was released will get it.
There is no line of latch waiters, just a ‘mob’ of waiters constantly retrying.
Oracle uses atomic instructions like ‘test and set’ for operating on latches. Since the instructions to set
and free latches are atomic, the operating system itself guarantees that only one process gets it. Since it
is only one instruction, it can be quite fast. Latches are held for short periods of time and provide a
mechanism for clean-up in case a latch holder ‘dies’ abnormally while holding it. This cleaning up
process would be performed by PMON.
Enqueues are another, more sophisticated, serialization device, used when updating rows in a database
table, fro example. They differ from latches in that they allow the requestor to ‘queue up’ and wait for
the resource. With a latch request, the requestor is told right away whether they got the latch or not.
With an enqueue, the requestor will be blocked until they actually attain it. As such, they are not as fast
as a latch can be, but they do provided functionality over and above that which a latch can offer.
Enqueues may be obtained at various levels, so you can have many ‘share’ locks and locks with various
    degrees of ‘shareability’.

  • Want to know what exactly is flow control in odi

    Hi Experts
I want to know what exactly is flow control in odi.can anybody explain with an example.i have created a simple interface ie using contol append km .in this both the tables are in one data server ie in different schemas.in this interface i have set the flow control as false.in what circumstances we will use this flow control.
    Regards
    sree

    Hi Sree,
Couple of points u need to aware.
There are two ways of Constraint checking in ODI (PK, FK, Condition, NOT NULL etc) using CKM.
FLOW_CONTROL: If u enable this in ur IKM all the constraints checking will be done at I$ table (before target table loading).
STATIC_CONTROL: If u enable this in ur IKM all the constraints checking will be done at TARGET table (after target table loading). In this case u need to DISABLE the constraint first and once STATIC_CONTROL is done then u need to ENABLE it.
So all the violated/errored record will be moved to E$ table in both approach.
    Makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Guru

  • Third Party Applications? What exactly are they?

    Right,
I've read alot about the Blue Screen that appears when Upgrading to OSX Leopard. I am intending on upgrading tomorrow when my external hard drive arrives so I can Clone my 10.4.11 onto the external hard drive and upgrade the cloned version first but would like to know if I can check in advance for any of these' Third party App's'? and what exactly are they?
    Regards,

A third party application is anything not made by Apple. It can also include products that Apple purchased fairly recently (some of those "Pro" apps) that weren't coded to Apple's specfications and haven't been well tested. Apple doesn't and shouldn't test their software with third party applications. It isn't their job to test other people's software. They probably make exceptions for things like Office and Photoshop, but that is a short list.
Most third party applications will be fine. The ones you have to worry about are those that ask for your password when you install them. They can then install any sort of incompatible software.
After you clone your hard drive, verify that you can boot from the external drive and all your data is there. If so, don't upgrade the external drive. Boot using the 10.5 DVD and immediately run Disk Utility and re-partition your internal hard drive to wipe it out completely. Then install Leopard. Do not use Migration Assistant. Re-install all your 3rd party applications that are 10.5 compatible. Be very careful about copying over from backup anything in a Library/Preferences folder. You can copy any preference file from a third party application back over - those are safe. Anything from Apple may have been upgraded. Only copy over the Apple files that you absolutely have to, such as your Mail folder and Address book file, for example.
It sounds like a lot of work but it will only take a couple of hours.
