What exactly is BPM Suite 11g?

Does anyone know definitely what is in the new 11g BPM Suite? The Oracle web site is clearly no help right now as what it describes is what we got with 10g. Everybody who is working with the new release knows you need to have SOA Suite components so is that included in the price? Do I need to advise clients that they need to buy SOA Suite to run BPM Suite? When you are a small time consultant you don't get Oracle sales people to answer your questions which is why I am hoping I can turn to the forum for some insight.

Rich
Here's what I confirmed with the Oracle BPM product manager a couple weeks ago about Oracle BPM 11g packaging. I think it coincides with your tread.
You do not have to purchase Oracle SOA Suite when purchasing Oracle BPM 11g. The confusing thing is that both Oracle BPM Suite and Oracle SOA Suite both have three components in common:
- BPEL
- Business Rules and
- BAM (not the BAM that is embedded with Oracle BPM)
Not included in the Oracle BPM Suite, but included with the SOA Suite are (do not install these when installing SOA Suite):
- Oracle Service Bus
- CEP
WebLogic Server and Oracle database are not packaged with Oracle BPM Suite and are purchased separately. I've never been on the pricing side of things, but I believe these have always been separately purchased.
All of the components now share a SOA unified runtime environment and JCA infrastructure. You get these if you purchase Oracle BPM Suite even if you do not purchase Oracle SOA Suite.
At design time you use JDeveloper to design artifacts for BPM, BPEL and Business Rules. You get JDeveloper even if you do not purchase Oracle SOA Suite.
At runtime you can use Enterprise Manager to track components. You get Enterprise Manager even if you do not purchase Oracle SOA Suite.

  • "Oracle BPM  Suite 11g" and "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components

    Dear Friends,
I am very confusing about the "Oracle BPM suite 11g" and "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" and would like your help on explanation as the following :
I have learn that In order to use "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" require to have "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components to install first. Does it means that :
    1) When we buy "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" , we automatically get the "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components as well ?
    2) IS it correct that these " these Oracle SOA Suite 11g components" are included :
    (a) Oracle BAM
    (b) Oracle Business Rules
    (c) Oracle BPEL Manager
    (d) Oracle Service Bus
    (e) Oracle Complex Event Processing
    3) Do we have a right to use all of these components listed in (2) ?
    4) Then the answers in (3) is "YES", then Is it correct when the customer buy the "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" , they no need to buy "Oracle SOA 11g" any more when they would like to implements that applications based on SOA in the future (without using BPM) ?
    5) What IF , the customer would like to start with "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" product and decide to buy only Oracle SOA Suite 11g first ; then later on in the future they would like to implement BPM projects in the future. Can you upgrade "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" to include "Oracle BPM Sutie 11g" and pay only the price different ?
I hope you can help providing the answers to these questions. THank you very much in advance.
    Best Regards
    Pearapon S.

This is a question best answered by your Oracle reseller or Oracle account manager to give you all the details but I hope this brief answer helps:
    - The Unified Business Process Management Suite (BPM Suite 11g) includes: BPM Studio, BPM Composer, BPMN Service Engine and Workflow Extensions, BPM Process Spaces, and BPM Process Analytics.
    - BPM Suite 11g requires the licensing of SOA Suite 11g for Oracle Middleware which requires a license for WebLogic Suite.
    - You can license SOA Suite 11g now and license BPM Suite 11g later.
Since the products are layered, I don't see this cutting into SOA sales at all. My personal view is that BPM on top of SOA is brilliant since it provides easy integration between human and automated tasks, builds on many of the SOA concepts that are key for a successful BPM implementation (functional, not the Oracle product), and uses the same IDE. The synergies extend past easy use of services; the same business rules and human workflow components are used between both products.

  • Advanced human task routing on Oracle Bpm Suite 11g.

    Hi
Do Oracle Bpm Suite 11g human tasks have concept of advanced routing of tasks ? For example if we have three groups of people, each of these groups have skills defined. And when task is created then the skills required fulfill the task (could be defined in task metadata) is compared against the three groups. The task is then assigned to the work queue of the most fitting group ?
So what I mean by this, is that you can specify rules which define which work queue (and multiple user can be assigned to the work queue) receives which tasks ?
Thank you for answering and I will gladly give more details regarding this issue...
    Best Regards Tuomas Katva

I must disagree a little... Human task's have been separated from process logic and I think it reasonable. I don't think that routing logic belongs to the business process, ofcourse this just semantics but I think it would make separation of concerns more apparent. If the human task - service/manager could determine the routing logic (to whom the task is assigned) based on the parameters it receives, it would then make clear separation of logic: business process would handle the overall control flow and the human task manager would handle the human task flow.
What I'm asking is there some pattern or API or something that would allow for example skill based routing of task. I know that Bea Aqualogic had "parametrized roles" which allowed the task to be routed on runtime to a "dynamic role", and IBM has "Business categories" and "Workbaskets" which allows advanced routing of a task based on runtime properties. Let me give you an example:
Let's say we have two skill categories:
    Language
Claim type (for example in insurance)
Applicant posts the claim and the insurance case is assessed by insurance handler. When the process flow comes to a human task it passes the claim's language and type of the claim to the human task manager. The human task manager would then determine who should handle this task. Let's say that Mike speaks spanish and has skills in car insurance claims. The human task manager would be responsible for determening that this task belongs to Mike (in case that the claim was in spanish and it was car insurance claim).
Is there any patterns or examples how this should be handled. I know this quite like case management but I think modern BPM's should be able to handle case management.
    Thank you
    Best Regards Tuomas Katva

  • Failing to assemble Downloaded Pre-built Virtual Machine for  SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g

    Hello,
I checked the download checksum of the files downloaded for Pre-built Virtual Machine for  SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g ( Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g ) and they all match checksums.
however, when I try to assemble them with 7zip, I get a corrupt error message.  I have tried downloading with Chrome and Internet Explorer.  I have also tried assembling the 7zip files different ways.
Is there anything else I should try?
Running on Windows 7, 64 bit machine.  (with lots of disk space).
Is there any other way to get the files?
    thank you.

    thanks for the response
I guess I will have to do that as well.
However, it defeats the speed with which can ramp up with the toolset;  thus slowing my time I can allocate to learning it...

  • How to generate Simulation Report in BPM Suite 11g?

I cann't find the "Generate Report" buttion in the Simulation toolbar in the BPM Studio 11g.
    The current version is:
    Component     Version
    =========     =======
    ADF Business Components     11.1.1.56.60
    BPMN Editor     11.1.1.3.0.6.84
    Java(TM) Platform     1.6.0_18
    Oracle IDE     11.1.1.3.37.56.60
    SOA Composite Editor     11.1.1.3.0.25.57
    Versioning Support     11.1.1.3.37.56.60

Thanks for your reply. But it's not what i want to know.
According to the BPM docs, once the simulation has completed, it is possible to export the metrics into an HTML report, and the raw data and numbers can be exported in CSV format and imported in other tools like Excel for further analysis and comparison with other simulation executions.
But I cann't find out the "Generate Report" Button in the Simulation. Is the feature existed in this version?

    Hi Ravi, Leaf
I am facing similar issue when trying to logon to bpm workspace (http://localhost:7001/bpm/workspace) after installing BPM & SOA Suite 11.1.1.4 Developers (single JVM install of AdminServer only).
    Steps I followed are-
    1.     Database is XE, I have set an environment variable to TRUE as suggested on download instructions page
    2.     Install SOA suite 11.1.1.4 by choosing the options for BPM for developers
    3.     When logging to WLS and em console with “weblogic” user, it works fine.
    4.     On the em console, I have checked and verified the “BPMWorkspaceAdmin” role exists and weblogic user is a added to the role
    5.     However using “weblogic” user, I can not login to bpm workspace (http:// localhost:7001/bpm/workspace). The server log shows-
privilege NA resource //app/policy/OracleBPMWorkspace/null/null result ABSTAIN

  • Unable to access BPM composer UI despite installing BPM Suite 11g

    Hi,
I've installed BPM suite (& SOA suite too) but even after starting Admin server and managed server (soa_server1), I'm unable to access BPM composer (I'm
using URL similar to http://host/bpm/composer) though I can access WLS console, EM, BPM worklist application etc correctly. Just wanted to check, what else needs to be done to use BPM composer? Kindly let me know.
    Thanks,
    Harsh

    Thanks Rommel. It worked!
PS: I've seen Composer UI working fine in other BPM installations without specifying port in URL, so I was also trying on similar lines.

  • Single setup file for BPM Suite 11g or later

    Hi
Please tell me where to find a single setup file for Latest Oracle BPM Suite.
I could not install all required software with multiple setup files.

    Hi
    1. Sorry. There is Nothing single setup file for Oracle BPM Suite like you are expecting for any typical software application.
    2. Option 1: Yes. If you are familiar with VM Ware and virtual machine, then you are ok to some extent. Oracle do have like a single vm image that takes care of all you want. Provided you have VM installed. Means we do have an image that contains all pre-requisites and full oracle bpm software like Oracle XE, RCU, WLS, SOA/BPM on top of WLS, BPM/SOA Domain. But this is for advanced and not for beginners unless you know VM Ware and virtual images.
    3. If you are a java/j2ee developer/architect, then here are the steps for installation:
    a) Good machine with atleast 8 GB RAM.
    b) Install WLS Latest Version. Install SOA/BPM matching version on top of this WLS.
    c) Install Oracle XE Database or have access to already installed regular Oracle 11g Database.
    d) Download RCU same version as above of soa version and unzip and install in the above Database. I am not giving all steps. Just an overview.
    e) Now run config wizard, create a bpm/soa domain and refer above rcu details (soa_infra, mds etc). You will have a soa/bpm domain.
    f) Download and install JDeveloper IDE same matching version. Here you will create any soa / bpm / bpel applications. Once all done. Deploy on the above created domain.
So unfortunately, there is nothing like a single .exe or setup file to install oracle bpm/soa. The closest is a vm image which is kind of advanced. But for a normal typical software developer, you had to follow above step 3 (a to f).
Unfortunately if you do not have Virtual Machine, you should and must install all the software(s) and configuration(s). There is no other alternative. Its very simple either way.
    Thanks

  • BPM Suite 11g version?

Just wondering if anyone had attended the Fusion Middleware 11g launch event and knows what is happening with regards to this product?
The event in London today talked about the BPA suite, JDeveloper improvements and a fair bit on the new BPEL engine as part of the SOA Suite. There was also talk of BPEL4People and BPMN support being added to these products but no mention of the OBPM Suite.
Oracle database 11gR2 and Enterprise manager 11g were also referenced as being launched later this year but again nothing on OBPM Suite. Anybody have any info on what's happens with this product set?
    Thanks,
    Mike.

The information on release date that we are communicating officially is that this release is expected in FY'2010 (which runs June 2009 through May 2010) – we are very cautious around public release dates and promising future functionality on any specific date, and do not provide more granular information. We will be demonstrating BPM 11g as well as offering hands-on lab on it at Oracle Open World 2009 – if you are attending Oracle Open World, please see us at our demo booth and/or attend our sessions/hands-on lab. In case you are not planning to be there, we expect other opportunities for customers and partners to get hands-on access to early bits. While the current 11g launch events are focused on the SOA Suite, which released 11gR1 version July 1, we did use this opportunity to preview BPM 11g with some analysts and partners (ACE Directors) – it has been very enthusiastically received as the first BPM platform in the industry that enables human-centric, system-centric and document-centric BPM on a single platform.

  • Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g - console logons

    Dear All
Excellent work on VirtualBox SOA suite image, very very cool
All started up no sweat, logged into virtual image no probs (oracle:oracle)
Firefox all nicely set up with links
BUT what are the console logins for
    1 - Oracle EM
    2 - WLS Console
    3 - BPM Workspace
    4 - BPM Process Composer
    5 - Oracle B2B Login
Perhaps I'm missing something, but I cant find them
    many thanks all

I will try to explain in more detail what i am trying here:
I am planning to use the Virtual Machine as server, just for running Weblogic with SOA/BPM.
All the development i will do on a different computer, where I have installed JDeveloper. From the development environment I will try to deploy applications on SOA/BPM Virtual machine.
As I understood, bridge networking are problematic when using wireless connectivity and VirtualBox. Therefore, I am trying to use NAT with port forwarding instead.
    To make port forwarding work:
First, you need to execute on the host the following command line:
    +VBoxManage modifyvm "vbox-oel5u4-soabpm-11gr1ps2-bp1-otn" --natpf1 "guestswls,tcp,,7001,,7001"+
Next, on guest VM, Network Adapters, choose NAT and as Adapter Type choose: Intel PRO/1000 MT Server
With this settings, I am able to connect from development computer to the Em console, WLS console etc. I am able even to 'see' the WLS SOA/BPM instance with JDeveloper from LAN machine. But when I am trying to deploy from JDeveloper, under SOA Servers step2 screen, I see the server URL as localhost:7001. Therefore I cannot deploy yet...
    Thanks,
    Florin

  • Differences between human workflow in SOA Suite or in BPM Suite?

    according to:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/index-090227.html
both oracle suites have human workflow.
can anyone point out what is the real difference then between this two human workflow components?
    if there is non:
can anyone point out big differences between BPM suite and SOA Suite?
    regards chris

    There are no difference.
BPM Suite 11g is deployed on top of SOA Suite 11g and it uses the Human Workflow of SOA Suite only.
You will see additional functionalities in Human Workflow if you are having a BPM suite instead of SOA Suite like Business Calendar, Protected Flex Fields, Application Roles, AMX functionalities will be enabled by default, etc.
