What exactly is "flash" on Droid X ?

Hello,
While I am familiar with flash cards, SD cards, CF cards, I am not sure I understand what "Flash" is (the thing that Apple Steve Jobs insisted that they would not use on their products, a war with Adobe or something), and what it does on the Droid X? Does this have to do with browser loading the web pages? Can someone explain?
Thanks,
Debra

If you've ever been browsing the web online with a new computer or browser and you get the message on a webpage that says that you "have to install Adobe Flash" - that's what people are talking about.  Like what was said above, there are a lot of sites that use it for online videos and games.  Steve Jobs considers it dead technology that won't be around for long - so he refuses to put it on Apple (mobile) devices.  He also claims that it is really buggy and will make all his products buggy.

  • Backup flash restore what exactly

    I think I've missed something. Over the last couple of weeks my N900 was sluggish, ignore calls, not able to call etc so I decided to backup and flash it. After that I restored the backup. This left me with an unrecognizable device. It looks like backup and restore does virtually nothing. no settings are restored. For starters the desktop is void. The desktop background image is gone, the alarms are gone. None of the installed applications are restored.
    So that leaves me: what exactly is backuped up and restored.?

    wow...small backups.  i actually REALLY use my device.
    btw...i was ssh into my device and copying a folder from my device to my pc, sms, sending/recieving email and also sent the above screenshot via bluetooth to my pc all at the same time!
    try to do that with something else other then a nokia....fu-get-uh-bout-it!
    ok, so HERE is a copy of my basic starter that i give anyone that gets a new n900 to start with.  it was created a while ago, includes no contact/calendar/email data, only the repos and basic starter apps that make the device better.  i cannot remember if it includes the cSSU or not....maybe i should create a new one.
    but...none the less, there it is.
    the back up you create on your device should back everything up that is pertaining to the original functioning of the device...meaning, that if you want to have an application data backed up, you should not rely on the device backup to include that data as the backup function will not grab it.
    so the best thing to do is to either ssh and copy the entire root folder to your pc, or you can use filebox and copy only the few folders that contain the data over to a memory card and then place them back after the restore.
    HERE is how to back up l337 wise.
    this is what is being saved in the general backup:
    The Backup application will save:
    Communication and Calendar: Stored conversations, accounts, contacts, and calendar entries. Only applies to content used with stock applications. (i.e. not Pidgin, or other third-party applications)
    Bookmarks: Bookmarks stored via MicroB. (Default browser only)
    Settings: Your current settings in the Settings "application." (Settings in /home/user, GConf, /etc.) Third party settings applets will also be backed up and restored once installed. Manually created shell scripts or other files (except those in eMMC/MyDocs) must be manually backed up prior to a rootfs flash.
    Application List: A list of repositories and installed applications to be re-activated and installed after flashing. (Only applies to applications and repositories installed via the included Application Manager)

    What exactly is wrong with it and can it be fixed?
    If you have AppleCare and/or iPod Nano is still under warranty, give them a call.  If not, take the computer to your local Apple Store or AASP.  The staff will tell you what is wrong w/it and let you know if it can be fixed after it is examined.

  • Apple_Boot Recovery HD partition - what exactly does it do?

    On a new MacBook Air (Mid 2011) there is a partiton on the internal solid state drive that shows up (you can see it by using Terminal, then type "diskutil list" at the prompt) as Apple_Boot Recovery HD  650.0 MB   disk0s3.
    My question is what exactly does this partition provide?  Is the Internet still required to accomplish a "Reinstall Mac OS X"?
    Does the partition just provide a quick way to reach the Mac OS X Utilities pane (see below) when restarting your computer while holding down the Command and R keys?
    If the partition is not on a MacBook Air (Mid 2011) do you reach exactly the same functionality when you are required to download the Mac OS X Utilities pane from the Internet?
    Once at the Mac OS X Utilities pane, would you be required to use the Internet to accomplish a "Reinstall Mac OS X" even with the presence of the the Apple_Boot Recovery HD partition?

    2. You can boot from any Recovery HD regardless of its location provided it's connected. For example you can use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant -  OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant - to put a Recovery HD volume onto a small USB flash drive with at least 2 GBs of space. You can install Lion onto a 16 GB USB flash drive in which case the installer will include a Recovery HD partition.
    3. If you boot from the Recovery HD then the reinstallation is by Internet. If you have your own bootable USB Lion flash drive, then the reinstallation will take place from the flash drive. Here's how the flash drive is made:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
    Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
    Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
    Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

  • What kind of flash is this?

    First let me say that I know very little about flash. I am
    currently working on an html site but would like to incorporate
    something similar to the below link as my main page. I have flash
    and am trying to figure out what kind of code I should be searching
    for. It is sorta like a slideshow but not really.
    Here is the link...
    http://www.bustinboards.com
    All I want to do is have a set of pictures randomly appear
    but they are clickable with links to other parts of the site. Also,
    I would like smaller images that also appear but not randomly (much
    like at the bottom of the page) so basically two separate parts
    with rotating images with clickable links.
    Like I said, I dont know much about flash but if someone
    could direct me to what exactly that is (ie slideshow, navigation,
    etc) I can search for more information on it. Thanks...

    Hi Arithian,
    What you are trying to do is quite simple, but you need a
    fair knowledge of Actionscript to acheive that effect.
    The linking of images to buttons (navigation) is simple, and
    easy to pick up. just look in the flash docs, under buttons.
    as for the fading transition effect, the flash docs will help
    you out as well, look for Tween.
    To get a automated image swap (automatic slideshow) you can
    use afew different methods, probably the best (and first that comes
    to mind) is the setInterval(); function.
    Flash docs again will have the information you need.
    to get a Random effect, look for the Math.random() method.
    Hope that helps.
    Come back here and ask for assistence if you get stuck, or if
    you need some sample code.
    good luck.

  • What exactly is happening in the code mentioned?????

    Hi all,
    I want to know the working of the below code:
    The below code is the WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED Trigger for the ENTER_QUERY (Push Button):
    DECLARE
      IT_ID1 ITEM;
      IT_ID2 ITEM;
      IT_ID3 ITEM;
    BEGIN
      IT_ID1 := FIND_ITEM('BUTTON.EN_QUERY');
      IT_ID2 := FIND_ITEM('BUTTON.CA_QUERY');
      IT_ID3 := FIND_ITEM('BUTTON.EX_QUERY');
      SET_ITEM_PROPERTY(IT_ID3,ENABLED,PROPERTY_TRUE);
      if :system.mode<>'ENTER-QUERY' THEN
       set_item_property (it_id1,label,'CANCEL QUERY');
       GO_BLOCK(GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(CURRENT_FORM_NAME));
       CLEAR_BLOCK(NO_VALIDATE);
       ENTER_QUERY;
      set_item_property (it_id1,label,'ENTER QUERY');
      ELSE
      EXIT_FORM;
      END IF;
    END;
    Can You please tell me what exactly is happening in the above code?
    I want to know the working of it. Help me plz.
    Thank You.
    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production
    Oracle Forms 6i.

    what does if :system.mode<>'ENTER-QUERY' THEN mean??
    SYSTEM.MODE indicates whether the form is in Normal, Enter Query, or Fetch Processing mode. The value is always a character string.
    and what does GO_BLOCK(GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(CURRENT_FORM_NAME)); do?
    GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY Returns information about the current Oracle Forms application. CURRENT_FORM_NAME Returns the name of the current form as indicated by the form module Name property.
    GO_BLOCK navigates to an indicated block. If the target block is non-enterable, an error occurs.
    As per the code, After i press the button, the label ENTER QUERY should become CANCEL QUERY, (that is when system is in ENTER_QUERY mode) .
    So when in the system is in ENTER_QUERY mode, it must display CANCEL QUERY, Right??
    in your post, you also said..
    The below code is the WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED Trigger for the ENTER_QUERY (Push Button):
    We see 3 button in your code. How can we know which one is ENTER_QUERY button. Your code says...
    ENTER_QUERY;
      set_item_property (it_id1,label,'ENTER QUERY');
    So, it says.. BUTTON.EN_QUERY label will be ENTER QUERY
    Then why the code, (if :system.mode<>'ENTER-QUERY' THEN set_item_property (it_id1,label,'CANCEL QUERY');) ?? which says if system mode is not equal to ENTER_QUERY,
    then it tells to display CANCEL QUERY.
    it says.. BUTTON.EN_QUERY label will be CANCEL QUERY

  • HT4859 when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer?

    when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer? Please help me and answer either or both question detailed thanks

    Normally when you sync your device it is automatically backed up to your computer as the first step in the sync process.  When you choose to start backing up your device to iCloud, iTunes stops automatically backing it up on your computer when you sync.  That's what the message is telling your; that you are now backing up to iCloud and not to your computer each time you sync.  You can still manually back up to your computer any time you want by going to the Summary tab and clicking on Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.
    You can still sync your device as you did before, it just will no longer back up automatically when you do.

    What version of Flash Player should I use with my Power PC based Mac?
    Please follow these instructions for installing the most recent version of Flash Player that supports PowerPC based Macs
    1. Follow the instructions for uninstalling Flash Player on the Mac: Uninstall Flash Player
    2. Download and extract the Flash Player 10.1.102.64 zip file
    3. Navigate into the folder "/Flash Player 10.1.102.64/10_1r102_64/"

  • What exactly do I do with my old iPhone to keep it as an iPod?

    I got my 3g phone yesterday, replacing my original iPhone. I also got a new phone number as I just recently moved out of state. Both phones have a sim card in them. No problems at all so far with the new one. It synced from my old phone just fine.
    My question is what exactly to do with the old one? Since it was deactivated it still works fine minus the phone, but I've not tried to sync it. I did not update to 2.0.1 prior to deactivating it. I understand I won't be able to do updated or a restore in the future. But do I leave the old sim card in it or take it out before I sync it? I'm not sure if that will make a difference or not. Any tips or help appreciated.

    You don't need to do anything to the old phone to use it as a Touch. You can continue to sync with the old SIM still in the phone but to do any updates you would need to reactivate the phone.

  • What exactly is Sand Box and what does it do?

    What exactly is Sand Box and what does it do? I think it works in the Security Mechanism of Java as a Byte Code Verifier (or atleast as a part of the Byte Code Verifier)..
    Your thoughts please..?

    What exactly is Sand Box and what does it do?It's a concept. It means that the executed code (of applets, Webstart apps) has restricted access rights to System resources. So if it tries anything evil, it won't be able to.

  • Only boots into safe mode (What exactly is left out in safe mode?)

    my PBG4 hangs on a blank blue screen when i boot it, this happens on fresh (HD wiped) installs of both Tiger and Leopard. It boots fine from a dvd and while in safe mode.
    i want to try to track down what exactly is causing the hang, i guess it is a hardware problem that only presents itself when all the stock drivers from apple are installed. is there a list somewhere of what is left out of a safe mode boot?

    Hi slee!
    "...this happens on fresh (HD wiped) installs of both Tiger and Leopard."
    Do you mean that, you did an Erase & Install of Tiger 10.4.x, and the PowerBook G4, won't successfully startup, and the same, if you do an Erase & Install of Leopard 10.5.x?
    Have you successfully installed either of those versions on the PB G4 before?
    Are you using a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, and a Full Retail Version Of Leopard.
    Or are you using a Model Specific DVD, from another model of Mac?
    If this is the type of disc, then that may explain the unsuccessful installation.
    The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

  • Want to know what exactly is flow control in odi

    Hi Experts
    I want to know what exactly is flow control in odi.can anybody explain with an example.i have created a simple interface ie using contol append km .in this both the tables are in one data server ie in different schemas.in this interface i have set the flow control as false.in what circumstances we will use this flow control.
    Regards
    sree

    Hi Sree,
    Couple of points u need to aware.
    There are two ways of Constraint checking in ODI (PK, FK, Condition, NOT NULL etc) using CKM.
    FLOW_CONTROL: If u enable this in ur IKM all the constraints checking will be done at I$ table (before target table loading).
    STATIC_CONTROL: If u enable this in ur IKM all the constraints checking will be done at TARGET table (after target table loading). In this case u need to DISABLE the constraint first and once STATIC_CONTROL is done then u need to ENABLE it.
    So all the violated/errored record will be moved to E$ table in both approach.
    Makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Guru
