What exactly is "Joint stereo" in the MP3 custom import settings?

Hi
I want to optimize the way I import my cds on itunes and this is the only custom setting that I don't really understand. I read he help guide bit that refers to this and I'm not understanding it fully.
Does it change in any way the left and right channel are delivered to the speakers/earphones from the way they were on the original cd at all? If I leave it to normal, what's different?
Thanks

Quote:
"Joint Stereo is a neat mathematical technique which is used to enhance the quality of compressed digital audio. It generally tends to be associated with the most popular format of audio compression - mp3, but it has also been incorporated into several other formats"
"Joint stereo is a method to save additional space while retaining a stereo signal, exploiting the fact that most music contains relatively little difference between the left and right audio channels"

  • What exact metals are used in the iPod 5 and what for?

what exact metals are used in the iPod 5 and what for?

Hey Connor and Josh, The same kind of metals that are found in pretty much all electrics. Aluminum, Gold, Copper, Solder, (I would guess lead free). You will also find plastics and resins, glass and Li-ion, carbon, and silicon. Why do you ask? If your thinking of stripping one down for the metals, it's not worth it, there so little in there it will cost you more to separate the metals than there value by weight.  Cheers.

  • Custom Import settings (MP3) not working?

I downloaded itunes today having read the help guides that I could d/l files in MP3 format. I changed the custom import settings as per the help guide and purchased music - only to find the downloads are still in m4p format & as such are no good for my mp3 player.
Right clicking & converting doesn't work as they are protected.
I am hoping this is just an error on the custom set up on my part, but reading this forum I did read about protected and Plus purchases, which I did not see in the help guide before I bought the music.
So, my question is: can the protected files be downloaded with the customized MP3 encoder settings or am I completely limited to Plus purchases?
    Thanks!

The import setting have no effect on store downloads, all iTunes store downloads are AAC (MP4). The import settings are used to convert the songs imported from CD or to convert unprotected songs in iTunes, not for choosing a format to download song from the store.
You can't convert standard iTunes copy protected songs, only the iTunes Plus purchases can be directly converted to another format. Where possible if you need to convert you should go for iTunes Plus tracks. The only thing you can do with standard songs apart from playing them in iTunes or on an iPod/iPhone is burn them to Audio CD. You can use that CD just like any regular one. If you need songs that will play on a non Apple player you'd be better looking around for other stores that provide unprotected MP3 downloads.

  • What exactly is Office Tools in the sharepoint Designer 2010 install?

I was looking for a solution to problems we have been having with Office 2003 and Sharepoint 2010 and I was able to fix it by installing Sharepoint Designer 2010. However I didn't want to install the entire Sharepoint Designer software on the clients PC
so I just installed Office Tools from the installer but I can't figure out what it's changing for this to work.
Can you give me an idea as to what exactly being installed in the Office Tools component of Sharepoint Designer?
    Regards

According to you description,my understanding is you want to know how it fixed your problem by installing Office Tools. If yes, please refer the below description.
All Microsoft Office components from MS Office 2007 and newer contains a component (OWSSUPP.DLL) that implements full integration with SharePoint. Full integration is often noticed by the user in that it enables checking documents in and out from the application
(as opposed to manually checking out and downloading the document, open the application manually and work with the file, manually uploading the file to the right SharePoint site and checking it in again).
So when you install Office Tools in the Client machine, the above dll will get installed an enabled in the browser and user will get option to open the document/excel file from the SharePoint site using the local Office Product which was installed in the
client machine. That dll integrates the SharePoint application with Office Product.

  • What exactly is un-needed from the Library folder?

I just want to know what exactly is ok to delete and what is not ok to delete from my Library folder. Many things take up a lot of disk space. I know I can delete the printer drivers (2GB)... but I don't know what other stuff is unnecessary. I'm not too skilled when it comes to this kind of stuff so please help me out. I want to clear out as much un-needed stuff as possible. Here are the biggest folders in my Library folder.
    - Application Support folder (3.94GB) [required or not?]
    - Audio folder (2.49GB) [required or not?]
    - Documentation (355.9MB) [required or not?]
    - Receipts (125.4MB) [required or not?]
    Thank you!

I personally would not start with the Library folder to start trying to make space, unless you really know what you use. Application Support for example, depends on what applications you use or don't use.
Having said that, you can try this page:

I've heard others using Monolingual (which they mention) to remove unneccessary language packs with no problem, I'm keeping all mine just in case .

  • What exactly does Classic do on the Mac computers?

    Hello,
I migrated from a lovely old iMac g4 a while back and now have an iMac running 10.6.8.
At some point after migrating everything over for some silly reason I decided I no longer needed Classic on this newer computer (I know, terribly foolish of me). Anyway I deleted it. Initially I had problems, mostly internet-related but also with a couple of special fonts that I use mostly for work in Quark XPress and Illustrator.
Fast-forwarding to now (about 8 months after the foolhardy act) things seem mostly ok (or I have just gotten used to them) but I've increasingly had problems printing Word docs (I am running an ancient version – Word X that came with Office X). Not only can I not print .docx files that others send to me, but now I don't seem to be able to print Word files that I have newly created (I can print the old ones however).
Just wondering if any of this has to do with deleting Classic. I realise now that I do not understand what it does.
As an aside, if anyone has a suggestion about what I can do to remedy the problem in Word, I would be most grateful (and yes, I have resaved the files with a .doc extension but with no luck) for the sage advice from the wider world.
    Cheers

Just wondering if any of this has to do with deleting Classic.
Almost certainly it does not. Reason - Classic can not be used in Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6), nor on any machine with an Intel processor.
I realise now that I do not understand what it does.
Classic is a specific install of OS 9 used when the machine is booted to some versions of OS X. As Classic, it is used as a program rather than as an Operating System, in order to provide a software environment in which many OS 9-only programs can be run. Classic can be used only in OS X 10.0 through 10.4, and only on PowerPC-processor machines.
It's purpose was to facilitate the use of pre-OS X programs. It did not enhance the usability or functionality of OS X itself.
So, not retaining Classic in migrating stuff to your newer computer was not foolhardy; it would not have been usable ata all.
Re using Word, I can't help with that. Perhaps someone else will post in with advice in that regard.
However, if you happen to have Pages installed on that machine, you might try opening one of the problematic Word files with it, then see if it prints.

  • Can't find the MP3 Disc buring settings in iTunes 8.x

I've just been searching for the settings in iTunes in which to change the burning of a disc to MP3 and it's not where it used to be. Can someone please explain this? When I go to click Edit > Preferences, Advanced tab the burning tab isn't there. I understand the Import tab has been send to the General tab and Import Settings button. Can someone shed some light on this please?
    Thanks in advance
    Garth

Never mind, I found those burn settings at the time you click Burn Disc while in a playlist. This is an indication how often I burn blank CDs. I own an iPod!

  • How can I tell what exactly is being distributed from the SCCM server to a client

    Hi,
If I know an IP Address of a client machine, is there a way I can see what SCCM is exactly sending to that particular machine at that moment in time?
    thanks.

Also, there is no way to see traffic "at that moment in time".
ConfigMgr is just not a "real-time" product.
As Jörgen said the best you can get is to look at the client logs.

  • What exactly does "Copy items to the iPhoto library" do?

Ok, so I recently switched to a Mac and will never go back.
Now, I want to understand how iPhoto works and can't figure out what "Copy items to the iPhoto library" does.
I imported one pic each way (checked and unchecked), and whether or not I have this checked, I see that the original file seems to be stored within the iPhoto library in the Pictures folder.
I have used iTunes, and I realize iPhoto is more complicated, but still, I can't figure this out.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It does exactly what it ays.
and whether or not I have this checked, I see that the original file seems to be stored within the iPhoto library in the Pictures folder.
I think if you look closely, with the option unchecked you'll notice that the Originals folder contains an alias to the file. (The file size is a hint )
Some comments on running iPhoto in referenced mode: On import iPhoto will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
+Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.+
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    Regards

Ok, I got a vision m for christmas and everything worked fine. I stopped using it for?a couple of months and then my mom got a v plus. I wasn't getting the connection error with the MTP device stuff. Now I plug in my vision m and I am getting the same problem. This is starting to piss me off. I got my mom's to work on my old comp upstairs. But I will not allow mine to be linked to that computer. All my music is on this computer. I don't know what is going with the creative products, but creative you really need to figure it out.

I agree. I've had problems with my old player (Zen Micro) and my new one (Zen Vision: M) which are connection issues. Sometimes they connect, and others they don't.

  • What exactly do you get with the analytics?

So I've been trying to do some research on the Analytics that you get with both the pro and enterprise account... and I've yet to get a clear answer as to what type of analyitics you even get in general...  the best I could find is that you can tie in SiteCatylst with the enterprise account...  but that doesn't tell me anything more than "you get analytics with pro, and you can plug in with sitecatylst with enterprise!"
So besides the basic "this was downloaded X amount of times"  what type of analytics do you even get?  and what are the additional analytics you get with enterprise subscription?
    Anyone got a nice list?
    Thanks ahead of time...

Yes you can but it will not go to your devices unless you set them up.
