What exactly is the new "Recommended   apple logo" that is now appearing on posted answers?

For the last few weeks, many of my and other's posted answers that have not been reacted to within a day or two by the original poster are updated with a copy of the answer under the original question with a green border, like the "solved" category, but marked "Recommended" with an Apple logo in grey.  No points are awarded.   What does this really mean?
It is common for the original poster not to react for longer than two days but now if they see the new "Recommended " label I imagine that they are unlikely to flag the reply as helpful or solved.
I seem to remember that there was an announcement about this but I was unable to find it.
Geoff.

Thanks for the link  King_Penguin - how did you find it?   I find the communities website very hard to search effectively.
As I thought I remembered he link says:
"...... Apple Recommends also lets you earn reputation points for sharing your knowledge. If a Specialist recommends your post, you will receive 5 points in addition to any points you receive from other community members......"
I have never received any points for recommended replies.  Nor has any original poster ever awarded any points after a post of mine has got the "recommended" treatment (though apparently they can still do so).
Of course, I don't respond just to collect points but to help fellow users.  Nevertheless it is rather demotivating if one gets no recognition at all.
Geoff.

  • What exactly is the auto letterbox and pillarbox option?

Can't find any reference to that preference in the help file. Can someone define exactly what that option does?
I'm guessing its affecting a project I'm working on. I just imported about 40 minutes of footage from a mini-DV camcorder. The person who shot it must have turned on one of those fake widescreen effects in the camcorder because the footage has black bars on top and bottom. Anyway, after the tape was finished importing iMovie put up a status box stating: "Letterboxing - Please wait this may take a while." Well its been about 2 hours now and its still not finished. I'm not even sure what the heck its doing.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    What issue?"
That is what I am asking...Like I said, I am able to open CS5 on my new retina mbp and edit image files with no issue..the only thing that I notice that seems off is the text of the UI seems "fuzzy"....
So, what I am asking is what exactly is the problem supposed to be that I should be seeing?

  • What exactly is the issue with CS5 and the retina display?

Just picked up a late 2013 MBP with retina display and have PS CS5 running on it.
What is the exact issue that I should be having when it comes to running CS5 on these machines ?  Is it just that the UI looks fuzzy?  Other than that it seems to run fine and my photos look fine also.

How are you trying to install Lion 10.7.3? Where did you get that version as the current download version is 10.7.4.
Why are you installing 10.7.3? What OS X version was on the computer before you started this install?

    5. Snow Leopard is 7.6.3. Windows is 7.6.5 and Tiger and Leopard is 7.6.4.
    Thanks Kirk,

  • Why did apple ditch the light up apple logo

the light up apple logo is on the apple stores, all apple laptops and has been in apple commercials dedicated to the stickers that hi light on the light up apple logo but now with the new macbook there is no light just a cold hard metal dark and unexciting.

My understanding is that Apple does not require payment when their products are used in shows. That would be the opposite of advertising. Normally, product placement works the other way around: the show is paid, not the advertiser. If the Apple logo is hidden in a show, it is usually because the producers do not wish to appear that they are endorsing any particular product. Unlike other products used on set, the Apple logo is so prominent that it is a challenge to genericize without covering it up.
Most of the reasoning in this thread doesn't make sense. It isn't because the light is too intrusive, and it isn't just the converted that like it. Those are sweeping generalizations.
It is much more likely that the non-glowing Apple logo on the new MacBook is just a regular Apple evolution of style. For example, the three colors in the MacBook are new to the Mac line, but they are identical to the iPhone/iPad line. Well guess what, the Apple logo has never glowed in the iPhone/iPad line. Therefore Apple may have simply decided to bring over the non-glowing Apple logo from the iOS devices to the Mac, just as they brought over the colors and brought over many of iOS user interface conventions to OS X.

  • What exactly are the updates good for on an ipod

I ask because mine is windows format, and im having trouble transferring all the metadata off my ipod with senuti to a back up so that i can reformat the ipod to mac and then sync in my senuti backed up library. I was wondering if anyone knows what exactly are the updates that you get. my ipod is 1.2 5thgen.
If i were to have the latest update would i be able to see album cover art view when the ipod is plugged into itunes? I noticed that i can see that view in library mode but not in ipod mode. (my pod isnt synced)...
so what are these updates good for?

    hey thanks for your reply.
I do have it set to manual and i can see the art on the ipod by itself, but even with manual transfer itunes wont let me view the artwork modes unless i am playing off my computers library (which doesn't have the songs on my ipod on it). I called apple earlier today and some tech support guy claimed that itunes does not support this feature. Is this correct? can anyone out there see artwork modes on an unsynced ipod through itunes?

I send my iPhone to apple because my standby button doesn´t fit, what exactly should i send to apple? earphones and charging cable too?

No! All Apple needs is your actual phone. Do not send the box or anything else as they will throw it away and you won't get anything back except for a phone! Do not send the sim card either and make sure you backed it up!

  • What exactly does the Work Offline option do in a shared review hosted on an internal server?

    Hi,
What exactly does the Work Offline option do in a shared review hosted on an internal server?
I *think* it simply disconnects you from the review server. I'm not sure why one would want to do this.
I'm trying to recommend an offline workflow for reviewers who may not be able to access a shared review hosted on our internal server (for example, while traveling). These reviewers would like to be able to comment on an offline version of the review PDF and then publish their comments when they can again connect to the Internet/internal server.
It doesn't seem like "Work Offline"  is the right fit for this scenario. Instead, should reviewers save a local copy to their hard drive, comment on it, and then, when reconnected to the Internet, open the local copy, click Reconnect to Server, and then click Publish Comments?

Thanks, Dave. So for my hypothetical traveling reviewer, it would be reasonable to suggest the following steps for an offline workflow?
    1. Connect to the shared review.
    2. Choose Work Offline from the Server Status menu.
    3. Close and save the review PDF locally.
    4. Comment while traveling.
    5. When back in the office, open the local copy of the review PDF.
    6. Click Reconnect to Server.
    7. Click Publish Comments.

  • What exactly is the JInitiator?

I'm new to deploying forms on the Web and noticed that the JInitiator is installed on all users computers the first time they run the URL of my application. What exactly is the JInitiator and what is it's function?

to run Forms in the web you need a JVM. You can use the Sun Plugin or the modified version from oracle, called JInitiator. With the first install your HTML checks, if the actual version on your browser uses the correct version or it downloads the version from Sun (sun plugin) or your Application Server (jini).
The Jinitiator has some benefits. Some cache-mechanisms helps you - stuff which isn't available in the standard edition of the sun plugin
After the installation of the plugin you have to download one-time the java-applet, called generic applet. This is the program which interacts with the OAS and shows you the forms-application, which runs on the OAS in a forms-runtime

    Hi,
What exactly does the colaece option do in TOAD software.

Coalesce will take ADJACENT free space and coalesce it into one larger free chunk.
A free extent in a dictionary-managed tablespace is made up of a collection of contiguous free blocks. When allocating new extents to a tablespace segment, the database uses the free extent closest in size to the required extent. In some cases, when segments are dropped, their extents are deallocated and marked as free, but adjacent free extents are not immediately recombined into larger free extents. The result is fragmentation that makes allocation of larger extents more difficult.
You should often use the ALTER TABLESPACE ... COALESCE statement to manually coalesce any adjacent free extents. To Coalesce a tablespace give the following command
    SQL> alter tablespace ica coalesce;
