What "factory setting" mean exactly?

Sorry if I post not in the right place,
But I need to know, I have friend that like to reinstall OS in her Tecra A6,
I saw she had 3 recovery discs.
When I tried, they said, recovery to default factory software..
I scared I make wrong choice, cause
I don't know exactly what the meaning is..
Is that to reinstall OS, only repair, or delete OS?.
If I already search in this forum with keyword default factory, but I don't get the answer..
Thanks before
NB. Sorry with my bad English

Hello Dawie
At first welcome to this forum and please don't worry about your English. Your posting is understandable and this is most important thing. My English is also not the best but I try to help other people in hope they will understand what I want to say. :)
Every Toshiba notebook is delivered with preinstalled operating system. This preinstalled OS is so called factory state. When you use delivered recovery CD/DVD for OS installation you will have absolutely the same factory settings that you get after first start.
When you start recovery procedure at first the HDD will be erased and new partitions created.
Last step is OS installation. Repair option with recovery installation is not possible.
For your info: recovery operation on older and newer notebooks is not the same. I cannot remember how it looks like on Tecra A6 but if you want to have exact explanation please explain me exactly what happen when you start recovery installation and which options are there.
Maybe you will see standard and expert recovery option. Please let me know.
Before you start recovery installation back up all important data.
I hope you understand now what factory settings/state means.
If you have more questions you are welcome.
Bye and good luck!

    I cannot seem to open icloud because I am not getting how to make my password correctly,what is underscore mean?It says I need letters,numbers,underscores and periods,how hard can this be? I have been trying forever.Now very frustrated,Help,please.

    The underscore is what you get if you hold the shift key down and type a minus/negative sign.
    Your password should contain both letters and numbers and you should have both small and capital letters, you don't need to worry about the rest.

  • What does it mean exactly when the file quarantine feature warns you about unsafe file types?

    It says here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3662 that "when you open a potentially unsafe file in Finder, Spotlight, or from the Dock, the file quarantine feature will warn you about unsafe file types. If you open a quarantined file, you will receive an alert asking, "Are you sure you want to open it?" You should click Cancel if you have any doubts about its safety."
    Am I correct in thinking that when this ^ appears on the screen, it means the file you're trying to open is unsafe but not totally harmful to the Mac? Which means you can still open it and it won't be much of a problem?

    If you know that you went to web site shown and downloaded the file shown at the date & time shown, then it's most probably exactly what you think it is.  If a panel pops up for some software that should NOT have been downloaded -- as in a file that's part of the operating system -- then all sorts of alarms should go off.  This is a classic technique for password grabbers -- you open something like Software Update and are completely expecting to have to type in the username and password of an account with Administrator priviledges, but if it is some nefarious program that you somehow downloaded and has substituted itself in the place of Software Update, then who knows where your password and username are going to get sent off to!  If you got a panel like that and it said "Software Update" is an application downloaded from the internet.  Or "Mail" is an application downloaded from the internet.  Or "TextEdit".  Big alarms!!!
    This is why when you are downloading software you should  type in urls directly, or click on them from a search page rather than some random link in an email/ad/etc.  If I type get.adobe.com/flashplayer into the url bar on the browser then I know that I really went to adobe's web site and got the real flashplayer (unless something is REALLY wrong!).  When you click on some link it might be going to anyplace at all -- including places that you don't want to go!  This panel gives you one last chance to double-check that the file you are opening is what you think it is and it came from where you think it came from.

  • When Metric's attribute CONFIG="TRUE", what does it mean exactly?

    I am confused with the explanation in document <Oracle Enterprise Manager Extensibility 10g Release 4 (10.2.0.4) B40007-01> , it said 'CONFIG: This is a special designation for CONFIG metrics that are uploaded
    differently by the EM framework.'. I mean what is the purpose when set CONFIG="TRUE"? For example, how could I understand the code below.
    <Metric NAME="MYSQL_MYSQL_DB_VAR" TYPE="RAW" CONFIG="TRUE">
    <Display>
    <Label NLSID="mmd_MYSQL_MYSQL_DB_VAR">MYSQL_MYSQL_DB_VAR</Label>

    <ColumnDescriptor NAME="Variable_name" COLUMN_NAME="VARIABLE_NAME" TYPE="STRING" IS_KEY="TRUE" />
    <ColumnDescriptor NAME="Value" COLUMN_NAME="VALUE" TYPE="STRING" IS_KEY="FALSE" />
    </TableDescriptor>
    <ExecutionDescriptor>

    <Column NAME="Variable_name" COLUMN_NAME="Variable_name" TABLE_NAME="MysqlVariables" />
    <Column NAME="Value" COLUMN_NAME="Value" TABLE_NAME="MysqlVariables" />
    </GetView>
    </ExecutionDescriptor>
    </Metric>

    Caroy,
    Thank you for your reply!
    I am a little confused right now. With your first reply, you said, CONFIG=TRUE used for configuration metrics in conjunction with the ECM framework and ECM is not supported with Management Plug-ins. I mean since EMC is not supported, then why there is an option to set CONFIG=TRUE? And besiede the way to collect data, what are the differences between configuration metrics and instance properties(both dynamic and state)?
    The reason why I was wondering the metric with CONFIG=TRUE will not be displayed in EM console is becase I have a developed plug-in and metric "MYSQL_MYSQL_DB_VAR" is not appeared in EM console. The file is as below. Would you please tell me why the metric doesn't appear in EM?
    target metdata file:
    <Metric NAME="MYSQL_MYSQL_DB_VAR" TYPE="RAW" CONFIG="TRUE">

    Haven't heard this one for some time.  The beta version you have was a test version that Apple used in the past. Yours has expired, but you can download the Facetime for Mac Application at the APP store.  It'll cost you 99cents plus any applicable sales tax.

  • If restoring factory setting didn't work for my Ipad. What next?

    Here are the things my Ipad did before dying:
    - Flashing keyboard and other random parts of the screen.
    - Apps wouldn't open
    - Apps wouldn't download
    - Would randomly restart
    Then it died: Would only show the apple symbol until it ran out of battery and again once it was charged.
    I plugged it into iTunes and got it restored to factory settings.
    I went through the set up process on the iPad and restored the last back up.....within ten minutes of set up it the above started again. Within twenty minutes it was back to the apple symbol.
    What is my next step??
    Thanks

    restore to factory setting mean getting it back to how it was at first
    if you after you do that restore your backup then the restore to factory settings was pointless
    everything it did was reverted when you restored to your last backup

  • What does Inline object "Y offset" mean exactly?

    Hi everyone,
    I am confused about inline object y offset. What does it mean exactly? I looked it up on adobe help, here is what it says there.
    Inline
    Aligns the anchored object with the baseline of the insertion point. You can adjust the Y Offset to position the object above or below the baseline. This is the default type of anchored object. In earlier versions of InDesign, these objects were called inline graphics.
    So.. is the baseline at the insertion point?  If the y offset is a negative number, does that mean the baseline move up? How come the object doesn't move ? like the adobe help say, "adjust the y offset to position the object above or below the baseline", doesn't it mean the baseline should stay and object moves accordingly?
    Thanks a lot!

    The behavior of inlines is also tied to the leadingof the line in which they are located. When the line has autoleading specified, the inline starts withthe bottom edge on the baseline, and the leading for the entire line is adjusted to the height of the inline object. Changing the y offset in such cases would appear to make the inline object appear stationary while shifting the baseline up or down.Waht is happening is the "auto" amount of leading is being adjusted to compensate for the shift.
    If the line in which the object is inserted uses a fixed leading, that leading is honored, and the inline object may cover part of the text above. Changing the offset will make the boject appear to move up or down realtive to the baseline, which will remain fixed by the assigned leading.

  • My ipod classic 160 gb suddenly became 0 kb free after i restored it to factory setting

    my ipod classic 160 gb suddenly became 0 kb free after i restored it to factory setting. it should be a lot more. I dont know what to do with it. I tried resetting it, but it still says "0 kb free" in the setting area.

    For your info,
          restored it to factory setting
    means erasing everything in your iPod, and putting back factory defaults, ie no music.
    read this Apple Support Article on Restore
    You must have music in your iTunes Library and then press SYNC  button in iTunes, which will populate the iPod.
    Watch this Apple Support video on Sync iPod
    If you dont have any music in your iTunes library or somewhere in your PC, then buy some or import from CDs.
    Have a nice day!

  • What it does mean with debug type is serial or debug type is usb or 1394?

    hi,
    I was reading in windows 7 bible  about  updating global debugger setting ,
    debug type can be serial ,or 1394, or usb  .
    what it does mean exactly with telling debug type is serial or debug type is usb?
    thanks
    johan
    h.david

    This is referring to the type of connection you are using to debug.
    Serial -- uses a serial cable,  needs a connection to a 9 pin connector. This was the first out there, is still in use on Desktops,  not installed on laptops anymore.  Not much hardware supports serial anymore.
    1394 -- refers to firewire.  Firewire was developed in the 90's (maybe late 80's).  This uses a firewire connection.  Not usually installed on Desktops,  sometimes still installed on laptops.
    USB -- refers to a USB connection.  This is the most common connection you will find and use.  This is on its third standard now, called USB 3.0.  This is commonly used by cell phones, printers, Desktops, laptops, servers, and is used to connect
    keyboards, mouses, and other items.
    Hope this helps.

  • Only Update Checked Songs ??? What does this mean?

    Hi, I was looking at my iPod preferences, and see the option "Only Update Checked Songs" What does this mean exactly? Has anyone figured it out yet?
    I searched the iTunes help file and it just listed stuff about Podcasts.
    Thanks in advance for your answers.
    D

    OK, my daughter and me both have iPods and only 1 computer to update them, I don't like alot of her music, I was hoping for a way to keep the automatically update setting on my iPod - so when new music was added to my library it would automatically copy those songs to my iPod, but if I didn't like them I could uncheck the songs and after the next update those songs wouldn't be on my iPod anymore.
    When we became a two iPod family, I did use the manual update on my iPod for awhile but it became a pain to remember which songs I just added to the library and copy those songs to my iPod.

  • What does it mean that our files must be downloaded by January 2015?  Will our files still be accessible after this date or will they be deleted?

    Hi Everyone!
    I'm a bit new to the whole PDF thing and am thrilled to share that I finally figured out how to use this cool feature! Well sort of! I noticed that there is a large red button that says all files will be deleted on January 6th. What does that mean exactly?  Will any files that we have stored here simply vanish?  I have a PDF file that I published in my 'workspace' that's linked to my business website.  Will the link to my PDF file just disappear on January 6th?  Thanks for any insights that you can share!
    Blessings,
    Lori

    Adobe Workspaces is being retired at the beginning of 2005. For more information, see FAQ: Adobe Workspaces retired.
    Yes, links to any files your have stored on Workspaces will not work after January 6, 2015.

  • Rookie question: what does "delegate" mean?

    in api explanation, it is sometimes mentioned that, 'A currently delegates to B",
    like "DefaultListModel" delegates to "Vector", what does it mean exactly? Forgive me, my English is really bad.
    is it saying that wherever A was previously used, use B instead now?
    thanks

    Basically when a request is made to Object A (for example a method is called), Object A forwards the request to Object B (the delegate). Object B then does some work to handle the request.
    public class A {
      private B delegate = new B();
      public int getSize() {
        return B.size();
    }This is actually not "true" delegation, rather "forwarding" since true delegation would require A to be forwarded to B as well as the request.

    Look - this has been reported in these discussions so many times and by so many people and for so long - that everyone and their granny knows this is an Aperture PROBLEM (?bug?)
    With me it occurs every time when I edit large .tiff or RAW files (around 60 MB) and can only get 20 done - before 'Unsupported File Format' and the dreaded red screen! Closing and then re-opening Aperture is the only solution (and I have tried ALL thos suggested on these many threads re this problem!
    I have emailed Apple so many times (and I guess so have others) - so far, to my knowledge they have not even recognised that this exists. Even in this thread you can see 'it may be a bug' ??? what does this mean EXACTLY (William Lloyd) ???
    Come on Apple - as well as the fab hardware we need RELIABLE photo editing software - and. for me Aperture is great - until it requires to be shut down and re-started every 30 minutes!
    Otherwise, I for one will switch to another software

    99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
    So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.
