What features says Oracle 12c, a cloud database?

Hi all,
I'm new cloud computing world and would like to what features bring 12c as a cloud ready database? Is it multitenant and/or are there any more things considering?
thanks
Pradeepa

There are many more features that were put in the 12c release specifically to make it a first class citizen for cloud deployments. Please take a look at the following links:
- Oracle White Paper:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/plug-into-cloud-wp-12c-1896100.pdf
- independent 4-page review:

Hope this is helpful.

  • What is the Oracle 12c Forms & Reports relase? what are the key benefits of Product?

    Hi All,
Actually I heard from Oracle learning streams . Oracle 12c forms builder planned to release.  what are the key features of release . when it is available in OTN ?
I have the following questions : (  Any one can answer me )
    1. In Forms Builder PL/SQL Editor why don't we implement the CODE / syntax checker?
    2. Is it possible to have the PL/SQL in built features automatically popup as soon as input the command by user ?
    3. Is it possible to implement the Forms product without web browser help , I mean independent controller contacts through back end web logic server ?
    4. Is It Possible to have more user friendly forms product, I mean fields editing at run time? or more features?
    5. Will be getting the Migration assistance tool for 11g r2 to Oracle 12c ?
Many thanks in advance, will appreciate your highly attention on the same .
    Thanking you & Best Regards

  • Oracle 12c disable EM Database Express

It seems less obvious now that db console (database express) is stored within the database how to disable it.  We already have EM 12c Cloud, is there any benefit to have database express also run standalone?  If not, is there a recommended way to disable it altogether?

You can disable all access to DB Express by stopping the listener service. For example,
    exec dbms_xdb_config.sethttpport(0)

  • Oracle 12c   in- memory database  option

I did not go to oow 2013, but watched Larry Ellison's video on  Orcle 12c in memory option. Seems amazing tecnology, hard to beleive everything can be done behind the scene once one sets some parameters in init.ora. I alreday have 12.1 intsalled on OEL 6.4 on my VMWare, wbat to play with it but do not see any download links on technet.oracle.com.
    Show trimmed content

It's just announced so wait for some time and I believe, it's not going to take "just few parameters" only.

  • Need Oracle 12c whitepaper recommendation for upgrade assessment

    Hi:  Good morning!
This is not an urgent request, but appreciate your recommendation!  I need documents about Oracle 12c (our os is IBM AIX power system, 6.1, 64 bit), because we are planning upgrade current oracle database 11.2.0.4 to 12c, we need a thorough assessment to 12c  since 12c introduced many innovative, new features, major component changes, as well as impact to java application.  The document I have so far is-
    1. database upgrade guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/UPGRD/preup.htm#UPGRD002
    2. Deprecated API (oracle database JDBC Java API Reference)
    https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/JAJDB/deprecated-list.html
    3. Tom Kytes Top 12 new features for Oracle 12c (from web).
There are many things to look for.  I want to know the major things I should focus in new features & impact to java application.
what document can provide me the info!
thank you very much in advance!

    Hi all:
Can anyone gives me advice after upgrade from 11.2.0.4 database to 12c database, which 'core-DB new features' impact to Java application more, and that we should focus on assessment?
There are too many new & innovative features introduced in 12c. Should I convert our single instance database (on non-cluster server) to 'CDB/PDB' during upgrade? Is it a 'Must-to-do' or not?  We have a physical standby DB, how to do with the standby?
Oracle Documents I reviewed are: 'Oracle 12c database document', 'Oracle 12c Java Developer's Guide'. I recommend this to our developers based on 'Oracle 12c Java Developer's Guide':
    Oracle JVM  (  JDK6, JDK7 support in 12)
[note:need to check jvm components for application: library manager, compiler, interpreter, class loader, server-side JDBC internal driver, server-side SQLJ, translator, system classes; Java stored procedure, SQLJ, JDBC, etc]
    2. Oracle Memory Space management      (         garbage collection)
    3. Multithreading
    4. Footprinting
    5. Dynamic class loading
    6. JNDI class support
    7. Auditing for Java ( alert/execute/audit/grant is enabled in auditing)
    8. Support for logging
    9. Support for customizing default java.security resource
    10. Improved for debugging
However, I may lost myself in core-DB new features for:
    1. advanced analytics features
    2. OLAP features
    3. Partitioning enhance
    4. Performance for zero effort
    5. Compression and Archiving features (depends on application tables design)
    6. Database Overall
       - Integrate With Operating System Processor Groups
       - Oracle Data Pump Support
       - Multitenant Architecture (Not sure)
       - PDBs Backup and Recovery  (Not sure)
       - PDBs Point-in-Time Recovery  (Not sure)
       - PDBs Resource Plans  (Not sure)
       - Utilities
    7. High Availability
       - Application Continuity
       - Transaction Guard
       - Logical Replication
       - Global Data Services
       - Online Operations
       - Oracle Data Guard Enhancements (Depends on our standby design)
    8. Manageability
       - PGA Size Limit
       - Resource Manager Runaway Query Management
       - Spot ADDM
    9. General
       - DBMS_QOPATCH
    10. Performance
    11. Security enhance
    12. Improve Security Manageability, Administration and Integration
        - Database vault
Is my above suggestion (text in red-color) correct?
    Thank you very much!

  • About Multi_language features of Oracle Text.

I have a customer who has to store into one table docs in different languages and
use contains index to perform some text search.
He would like to use the multi_language feature of Oracle Text.
The database we are using is Oracle 10gR2
We create a table with doc and language column, and then we have to create the context index.
In documentation I found some info's about how set different lexer (MULTI_LEXER) for language that have different lexer,
different stoplist (MULTI_STOPLIST) for different languages stop words,
but I don't understand if it
is possible use the stemmer features for different languages, and if there are some other features that I can set for using multi_language properties.
    Thank you in advance
    Paola

According to the online documentation: "The Oracle Text stemmer, licensed from Xerox Corporation's XSoft Division, supports the following languages with the BASIC_LEXER: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Dutch. Japanese stemming is supported with the JAPANESE_LEXER."
Please see the demonstration below. Also, if you are using 10g, you can specify the language in the query, instead of changing the language for the session. 10g also has a world_lexer.

  • What are MD_ tables in Oracle 12c database?  What is their purpose?

I just set up an Oracle 12c database with the purpose of migrating an existing Oracle 11.2.0.2 database.  Our application developers are a bit confused when it comes to the schemas suddenly having MD_ tables they did not create.  Any help is appreciated.
Did you do this using sql developer and the migration workbench to create a repository?
See if anything in this article rings a bell:
    http://oraexplorer.com/2008/06/oracle-sql-developer-migration-workbench/#sthash.gNFtpafS.dpbs
Next, you will need to create a repository. An database account, which has CREATE SESSION, RESOURCE, and CREATE VIEW must be created first. Then logon into SQL Developer as that account. From the tool, create a repository from Migration menu > Repository Management > Create Repository. This process creates a bunch of MD* and MIGR* tables and packages.
I ask because you said you 'set up an Oracle 12c database' but then implied your developers are accessing it.
Most people experimenting with 12c create a multitenant database which has a CDB and one PDB that contains the sample schemas.
You typically would NOT allow developers access to the CDB; that is for admin purposes only. So, hopefully, if you developers access anything it is ONLY the sample PDB or a PDB that you have created from the seed.
Make sure you, and your developers RTFM about the new multitenant architecture or you will all get horribly confused when you try to do simple things like create users or issue grants. All of that works VERY differently in 12c.
See chapters 17 and 18 of the Database Concepts doc
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/server.121/e17633/cdbovrvw.htm
Pay particular attention to the discussion of 'common' and 'local' users. And a hidden 'gotcha' is that the PDBs will NOT be started/opened by default when you do a 'startup' of the database. If you create common users those users will NOT be created in PDBs that are not open; so there is the potential to have to do perform a lot of manual maintenance if you need to add those users to PDBs that weren't open at the time you added the users.

  • EM Cloud Control 12c has no databases

    Hello @ all,
i've installed Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12.1.0.2.0 on a virtual machine with RedHat Linux 6 and configured the EM by installing it so, that he should connect to my test database server with Oracle 11g 11.2.0.3.0 to watch over that. The installer get a valid connection to that database server.
Now, after install, i want to test the connection. So i started the Overview of EMCC in my browser, connected as SYSMAN, selected the "Database Home" and at the frame "Database Loadmap" there displays the message "no databases available". But the database at the test server is running without any problem:

  • What are the Oracle Home and GRID home directory locations for Oracle 12c (12.1.0.5) release

    Hello All,
I plan to install and configure Oracle 12c Cloud Control console on a single standalone server and the version is Oracle 12.1.0.5. All the databases which are installed across in the entire farm/landscape are these versions:
    Oracle 10.2.0.3 Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 10.2.0.4 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 10.2.0.4 Active DataGuard Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 10.2.0.5 Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 11.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 11.2.0.1 Active DataGuard Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 RAC Enterprise Edition
All Oracle databases across these versions will use the same version of Oracle Grid since ASM is used for all the Oracle database across Production/Test/Development databases. The OS is RHEL 5.8, RHEL 6.3, OEL 6.3 versions.
When installing the Oracle 12c Cloud Control what is the Oracle and Grid Home directory location need to set to. Please let me know if there are any other additional configurations needed?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

First off, the only EM CC release out right now is 12.1.0.2, not sure where you got 12.1.0.5 (DB Plugin maybe?).
Second, you're confusing EM CC homes with DB/Grid homes.
EM CC will need it's own Oracle Home (i.e. /opt/oracle/product/em_12.1.0.2).   You will need to provide repository database connection information, but EM does not care what home the db or grid is installed in.
I would recommend reviewing the documentation as well as the references on OTN -

  • What is the best source to learn and advice to get Oracle 12c (OCA) certificate???

    Hi there,
I hope all are running good.
Actually, I'm a new in a Oracle career but I know all concepts of Databases and SQL.
I'm planning to take a Oracle 12c (1Z0-061) (SQL Fundamentals) exam to achieve 12c OCA certificate but I'm bit confused in what source is best to learn it by self and what are tips to pass those all exam to lead me OCA certificate. Please, kindly provide your valuable opinions. Look forward to hearing your replies.
    Thanks

The Oracle Press exam guide for 1Z0-061 is written, though of course there is all sorts of production stuff still to go. The 1Z0-062 guide (a lot longer!) is done except for the last two chapters. So both should be out in the near future. I know this because my buddy Roopesh is writing 1Z0-061, and I'm writing 1Z0-062. Bob Bryla's 1Z0-063 guide is bit later, the exam isn't in beta yet.
As Philippe says, the OCA is not simple this time. Of course I can't reveal the exam content, but I think I can say that Oracle Uni is raising the standard with 12c .

    hi,
while i'm installing 12c the pdb check box was enabled and i left it as it is and i didn't create any service entries specifically for pdbs, but the database was successfully installed.
later that i created an user as in the specified format like c## username identified by username it was created and connected in sql*plus too i checked it. but whats the wrong is while installing informatica it will asks for database connectivity .....write? then i'm giving this database credentials but that informatica installation tool is even unable to contact the database.simply it is throwing an error :- the username and password are incorrect and unable to connect to the database. plz reply me any thing you got helpful

But you didn't say if you connected to the CDB or the sample PDB nor did you say which component of Informatica you are trying to install (server, repository, client, etc).
It sounds like you haven't completed the Informatica pre-installation steps because part of that is to create a DB user account for the domain configurations and to set the port numbers to use for the node and domain services. So as I said above:
If you can complete step #4 above and connect manually and use the DB manually then your problem is with Informatica and you need to post there.
Since Informatica needs a repository using 'some' database you need to make sure you design your architecture before you just start installing things. For Oracle 12c you will want to use PDBs and not start creating tables and application code in the root.
You need to review the installation requirements for the Informatica component you are trying to install and verify that you meet those requirements.
You should also repost the question in an Informatica forum and verify that Informatica actually supports Oracle version 12c.

  • What Is Oracle 12C

    Hi All ,
I Heard about the oracle 12C but i want more details about this new version of oracle poroducts .
if any one has any informations about this topic please tell me .
    Best Regards ,

10g or 11g is not a product, it is a marketing label. There is database 11g, forms 11g, discoverer 11g,.......
If 12c is the new marketing label for oracle products asking "I want informations about 12c" is like asking "I want informations about the features of car".
As for when forms or database 12 (whatever letter it has) is released and what features will be included: typically oracle does not provide exact dates about when brandnew versions of their products are released, and what exact features they will include for sure. But basing the fact that the latest 11g versions of forms and the database have been released recently this might take some time.
    cheers

  • Application deployed on Oracle Java Cloud Service - SaaS Extension is not connecting with cloud database.

    Hello Experts,
I have deployed an ADF application on Oracle Java Cloud Service - SaaS Extension and also deployed database objects from local environment to cloud using JDeveloper. I can see the cloud database has tables and data which I have deployed but when I access the application it seems it is not able to connect with cloud database.
I have followed below document and same sample application (HRSystem).

  • Does the oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2 support oracle 12C database ?

    Hi experts,
Currently in our environment we are having Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bit DB which is replicated via oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2. As per the application team requirement we need to migrate this database to 12C.
Can any one help me on the below queries
Does the oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2 support oracle 12c database ?
Are there any syntax changes in oracle goldengate versions which needs to be taken care in extract or replicat parameter files ?
    Thanks,
    Mushraff Shaik

    Hi,
    >>Does the oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2 support oracle 12c database ?
Why do you think it will not support 12c database ?
From a Golden Gate perspective you need to create schema and use that.  As you are moving to 12c database, ideally you should think of upgrading Golden Gate 11.1 to 12c so you can use new feature such as Multi Threaded replicate etc..
