What file do I save to keep find/change queries when reinstalling?

I'm needing to uninstall and reinstall CS6. I have a large number in find/change queries that would be exceedingly difficult to redefine. How do I rescue these along with other features like Workspaces or Actions in PhotoShop?

Your saved find/change queries are in a folder in your user library or user profile (depending on your OS). You can find the path to where they are stored in the information provided for the InDesign Defaults file at Replace Your Preferences. The saved queries folder is in the same parent folder as the InDesign Defaults file. Note that this is a HIDDEN folder on all recent operating systems.
There should also be a Workspaces folder in the same location for ID. Similar folders should be found for the other programs under their respective application folders in the same user library/profile location.

  • What files need to be saved before a change of HDD?

    Hi all,
    I'm about to change my HDD in my MB pro due to a disk problem.
    I'm wondering what files do I save?  Do I just need to save my those in my ''User'' area?  Or do I need to save more than this?
    Thanks

    When I say ''more than this'' I mean files like Applications, Library, Recent items, System...
    Any help gratefully received.

  • Trying to find the Find/Change queries

    Okay I thought I knew where these were.  I've looked in
    C:\Users\phyllis\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0\en_US\Caches
    There are files there called FindChangeData and FindChangeDataTmp, but writing them into the folder for Version 7.5 doesn't do anything.
    So I think I'm looking in the wrong place.  I'm trying to move all the find/change queries into InDesign CS 5.5.  Can someone point me to them?
    Thanks, Phyllis

  • Script for running multiple find/change queries

    Working on a large ID book document (*.indb), I have saved several dozens of Find/Change Queries (named "col01", "col02" etc.) that I run on "All documents". For a particular reason I have to run these queries several times a day.
    So I was wondering whether there is, or whether anybody out there would write, a script that runs these queries one after the other. Given the size of the book, it might be necessary to provide for the script to pause after each query is run (before it goes on with the next), but I am just guessing.
    Any help is much appreciated!

    There are a couple of others:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5173943#5173943
    this is more at code level rather than a GUI, but the actual queries are made using the Find/Change dialog box.
    Also
    http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/grep_query_manager.html
    This is good too, but only does GREP searches (no text, glyph or object find/replaces) that were written by the user - does not use the ones installed with InDesign. Does allow changes by selection, story, document or folder.
    Did try the Doquerylist suggested by Kasyan. This allows GREP/text changes by the user/installed with InDesign, but only applies to a selection or text-thread.
    Always good to have more than one way of accomplishing a task though!

  • Syncing Calendar with Outlook keeps finding changes on BB device in Attendees

    Each time I sync my BB Tour with Outlook, the Sync program finds changes on many of my calendar items with the attendees.  Yet I haven't changed a thing.  In fact, I will sync twice in a row and the 2nd time it finds more changes.  I don't touch a thing in between syncs.  Makes no sense and concerns me that it's going to screw up my Outlook calendar scheduled meetings.  When I look at the details of what has changed, it looks like it's added my contact info as an attendee.  I could see if it did that 1 time for all scheduled meetings but each time I sync, it seems to go find 20 or so meetings, so in the past, som ein the future and tags them as being updated so it needs to update my Outlook.  This sound familar to anyone?  Any idea what's causing it and how to stop it?

    Blackberry Tech Support helped me solve this one.  Was due to me having my Name in my contacts in Outlook but the display name was not the same as my email name in our GAL.  Therefore it kept making changes back and forth to Outlook and then to the device.  Solved the problem by making sure my name / email info in Outlook was the same as in the GAL.

  • What file format to save in

    I have hundreds of photos I want to scan in on my Canoscan. When all is said and done it will probably be thousands. I'm worried about huge file formats if I save them all in TIFF format. Can I scan my photos into a portable hard drive as Jpegs at a low compression and when I want to make adjustments to a photo save them into Picassa as a TIFF file and then do my cropping, color adjustments, etc. so that I don't lose any picture quality?

    I haven't done this in several years but when I did I found it better to scan & save as TIFF's which as you already know creates big files. Scanners & software have improved since then but what I'd try is to save the same file as a jpg (lowest compression) and as a TIF & then convert the TIF to a jpg & compare both to see if one looks better than the other. If you can't see a difference then just save as jpg's.

  • What file should i save my entourage contacts to import in address book

    Help, again, sorry.
    I need to import contacts from Entourage to Mail, what type of file is needed to be exported from Entourage to enable mail to import it?
    Thank you.
    Dean Jackson

    The default export option for Entourage contacts is a tab-delimited plain text file which should work since the Tiger Address Book includes a Text File import option which doesn't always work as intended.
    A better option in my opinion is creating a folder on the Desktop named Contacts or whatever you prefer.
    Select a contact in the Entourage address book and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All to select/highlight all contacts.
    Click and drag the highlighted contacts to the created folder on the Desktop. This will create a copy of each contact as a separate vCard file.
    At the Address Book menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards. Navigate to the created folder on the Desktop.

  • The level after Carnival Upheaval in Angry Birds Rio won't download on my iPad. What can I do? It keeps saying "coming soon" when I go that next page.

    The level after Carnival Upheavel in Angry Birds Rio won't download on my iPad. It says it s coming soon on the screen.
    Is there something I can do to get it to download?
    Thank you for any support you can give me.

    That likely means that it doesn't exist yet. It's up to rovio (angry birds maker) to get it to you. Theyll likely have it as an update eventually. Angry Birds is very good at promoting itself.

  • Can't find destination disk when reinstall the Mac OS

    Get some problem and need to reinstall the OS, placed the installation DVD and could not finished the process - it stopped at cold not find the destination disk to install the OS. Please help

    Hi folks
    I have the same problem with a 2nd generation G5 iMac. I tried to erase and install Tiger (retail version bought from Mac Store after consultation with Mac support), failed and hung up for 6 hours until I switched the thing off and my hard drive icon no longer appears in the startup list. I can't even reach options stage on install procedure - my hard drive icon has GONE! So no utilities from the Install disk. The mistake I may have made was to try the Unix erase and Install procedure.
    I have tried to get in using my mac mini as target drive but this seems not to offer a way out of the s**t! - can't find a way of reinstating a hard drive icon for the iMac in the startup folder.
    Any bright ideas out there or do I need to get a new Apple formatted hard drive?
    Many thanks.

  • Utility to keep track of what files a selected application accesses?

    Hi there!
    I’m hoping to find a troubleshooting utility (or maybe set of command line instructions?) that I’ve not yet run across ...
    Basically, it would allow me to +log or track what files a selected application accesses on disk+ (and perhaps when each access occurs (date/time), whether read/write, etc.).
    Seems to me it could be very useful to have.
    Has anyone run across anything like this?
    Many thanks!

    Nevermind I found it. turns out I needed to add a "title" to that selectedCell

  • When Saving a file finder changes the file name

    After updating to Mountain Lion, every time I save a file, I put in the correct file name and after beginning to save the file the file name is changed to a file name that was saved weeks ago.  It does not matter where or with what program I save it, it begins to save under the correct name and sometime before the save is complete finder changes the file name to a file a saved weeks ago.
    What library file do I have to delete this time to make this stupid thing stop doing that?!?

    It's the level of compression. Lower number, more aggressive compression, more visual artifacts.
    Aside from that you should never use jpeg as a working format. The compression is destructive and cumulative, and the file deteriorates every time you resave it.
    Use TIFF or PSD, and if you need jpeg save out a copy as a single final step.

  • Keep track of styles in the find/change fields

    Please at least make this an option.
    I need the ability for InDesign to keep the track of paragraph,character & object styles that have changed names. Because when they do change names, I have to go through a mega list of GREP queries and "re-link" them in the change field.

    If you really want, you can change it manually. Saved Queries can be found in your User data folder (which depends on your OS, your InDesign version, and your installation language -- CS4, Mac, is in Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 6.0/en_US/Find-Change Queries).
    This small sample is from a saved query that finds a character style "Page Number" and changes to a paragraph style "Body Text Indent":
    <FindFormatSettings>
    <TextAttribute type="cstyle" value="Page Number">
    </TextAttribute>
    </FindFormatSettings>
    <ReplaceFormatSettings>
    <TextAttribute type="pstyle" value="Body Text Indent">
    </TextAttribute>
    -- I changed the 'pstyle/value' string to another paragraph style name, using TextEdit, and when I retrieved the query in InDesign it was there.

  • Is it possible to save/export and load search queries?

    Currently, when I open the Find/Replace window (Apple+F), I see a long list over every query I have saved in the dropdown menu. This is not ideal for me because of the 100 queries, I might only use 1–10 for Project A, 11–20 for Project B, and so on. Is it possible to export and save a group of search queries in one file, a second group in a second file, and so on? I would like to be able to load only the search queries that are relevant to a specific project and have in mind something akin to the "save" and "load" options in the swatches panel and styles panels.
    I hope my question is clear, but please let me know if you would like additional information.

    Your saved queries are stored as individual xml files in the Find-Change Queries folder in the prefs written in your user profile/library. Queries in subfolders don't seem to show up in the dialog list. It seems reasonable that you might be able to save sets in subfolders, then copy them into the main folder when you want them, but doing it manually would be a major pain. If multi-find/change doesn't do it for you already, it might be worth asking in the scripting forum if anyone could help with a script that would.
