What file type to export vid from final cut to studio pro

Beginner here, the question I have is what is the best file format to export from final cut to studio pro so that I will play in a decent to good quality on a DVD that I make in studio pro. Thanks.

For my FCS projects, I export DV_NTSC "anamorphic" (I use 16:9 format) to a "reference" movie: that is quite fast after all rendering is completed and the resulting file is pretty small. The only disadvantage to "reference" I've found is that you must keep all those FCS file around since those are what is referenced by the export.
I export like that instead of exporting to compressor because for me, exporting directly to compressor is very slow; on my G5 Quad, my compression step is about 1:1 with real time.
You can take those .mov files into DVDSP and let it do the compression using your defaults. I prefer to use Compressor directly so I can set the compression, Dolby, etc. parameters. Compress to mpeg2 and AC3 (Dolby Digital) and if you are just in stereo, just keep it in stereo, check the "no surround encoding" and make sure the highest audio level in either channel is -3db (or the compressor setting let you reduce the level by 3db). That prevents a downmix to mono (like on a cheap TV) from clipping (-3db + -3db = 0db. (zero plus zero = +3db and is clipping).

  • How to up the DPI on exported images from Final Cut

Is there a way to export stills from Final Cut that are 300 DPI, I think they are exporting at 72 DPI?
    Catherine

DPI is a measure of density of pixels. It tells us nothing about the printed size of the image (width in inches x height in inches)
    A 1200 x 900 image @ 300 dpi yields a 4" x 3" image when printed.
That same size (in pixels) image printed at 100 dpi will yield a 12" x 9" print.
The number of picture elements (pixels) is exactly the same between the two prints but the one in 100dpi image are 3x larger - which will yield a softer image when viewed from the same distance as the 4"x3" 300dpi image.
However, if you view the 300dpi 4"x3" print from 2' away and view the 100dpi 12"x9" print from 6' away - they will appear the same.
Discussions of finding meaning in DPI is difficult without knowing how the final will be viewed.
fwiw - I've made poster size prints at 75 dpi that looked just fine when viewed from 10-12'.

  • How Can I do an export that from Final Cut Pro 7 that is specific to these settings?

    Hi
I am current trying to export out a movie from Final Cut Pro 7 but the settings that are required are very specific and I was going to try it through compressor as well but I wasn't sure if that would work either.
    Here are the settings:
    HD:
    1 Video CODEC                 XDCAMHD50
    2 Wrapper format           QuickTime Self-Contained
3 Bit rate                              50 Mbit/s Constant Bit Rate (CBR)
    4 GOP                                   Long GOP
                                                 Closed GOP
5 Time code                       Must include embedded time code. Start-timecode: 10:00:00:00
6 Movie version               UK Home Video Version
7 Delivery time                 As per contract. Supplier to specify filename, delivery format and estimated time of arrival via email at least 60 days before                                                           transmission unless otherwise specified in contract. This should be accompanied by an IMDB link.
    1 HD video format           720 line progressively scanned (720p) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
                                              1080 line interlace scanned (1080i) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
    2 Resolution                      1280 x 720
                                               1920 x 1080
3 Aspect ratio                    Content should be 16:9, however 4:3 will be accepted on exception (such as for older movies shot in 4:3)
4 Graphics                           Must be within 16:9 safe graphics area (EBU R95-2000)
    5 Chroma format              4:2:2
1 HD audio format           24 bits/sample 48 kHz sampling rate
    2 Track layout                    Track 1 – 2.0 Stereo L mono
                                                Track 2 – 2.0 Stereo R mono
                                                Track 3 – L
                                                Track 4 – R
                                                Track 5 – C
Track 6 - Low frequency effects LFE
                                                Track 7 – L Surround
                                                Track 8 – R Surround

First of all, what are your sequence settings?  Looks like they want stereo AND dolby 5.1 audio tracks embedded in the quicktime (I've delivered a few films like this).  Do you have a surround sound mix?
You will almost always have more options and control in compressor over fcp so that's the way I'd go, but not sure compressor will give you the ability to match these specs.
Do you understand about safe zones for graphics?  If not, post back.
I don't see any option to set the GOP in xdcam in compressor.  This may be built in to the xdcam format.
I don't see any option for 720 xdcam hd in compressor.
There are many other tools available for this kind of work, but they may be out of your price range.  You might want to just find a facility with experience in deliverying this sort of thing.

I woud'l like to know what is the best way to export a video of 34min from Final Cut? after I'm gonna burn at Toast! and in Toast should I chose "dvd" or "video_TS"?
I tryed already export with "sequence quicktime" and DV PAL 48 kHz and burn with "DVD", but didn't work.
And export with "via le compression quicktime" in sequence quicktime, burn with "DVD and DivX" and didn't work too!
    Can somebody help me?
    thanks a lot

my sequence is in Final Cut yet. The problem is, is an art work and every time I have to show somewhere, is diferents DVD players, so I tryed to play the one (exported by quicktime) in a dvd player quite old and actually worked but very bad, with errors! So, I trying to find a way more universal!! that I can play anywhere! Should I export by "compresseur" and Mpeg2 something like this, or "compresseur quitktime" and .avi??

  • Best setting on DVD studio pro for PNG vid from final cut w/1280x720 res

Okay, so I am trying to find the way to make my video look best on a 720p tv set. The video is for kiosk use, so will only show on this one tv over and over. I want the text to look super crisp and sharp, so I have exported the video from final cut studio as a png with 1280 x 720 HD resolution. When I import it as an asset on DVD studio pro I notice that the resolution in the track menu is showing as 720x480i. What's the best way for me to setup DVD studio pro, so my video retains as much clarity and sharpness as possible? Is there no way to make it super sharp on an SD DVD? I set the encoding to Two pass VBR and the bit rate to 6.8 and max bit rate to 8.0, motion estimation to best... any tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I want the text to look super crisp and sharp
then use a computer and presentation software, Powerpoint, Keynote Open Office Impress which is FREE
1280 x 1024 rez is a basic standard these days
    http://www.apple.com/iwork/keynote/
    http://www.openoffice.org/product/impress.html
I have exported the video from final cut studio as a png with 1280 x 720 HD resolution.
this is waste of time, your next step is compressing this image down to something like a tenth of its original size with much lower rez to an MPEG2
if you want acceptable results at video rez 720x576 PAL then use DVDSP
but you have to accept that creating a DVD severely compresses the video to MPEG2, which is fine for moving video but isnt the sharpest compared to computer rez.

  • Exporting video from Final Cut Express to be put on the internet

Is there a way to export a flash file from Final Cut Express? I have a short video I am trying to put on my web site and I am finding that every format I try people who are using PC's are having trouble opening it. It all links back to Quicktime. Is there a way to not use Quicktime?

It doesn't come with FCE. You need a Flash encoder. There are different ones of varying quality. Flash of course comes with one. Episode has Flash as an add-on. Do a google search for Flash encoders. Many encoders, after they're installed, will work directly from within FCE using the QuickTime Conversion function. There'll be a format option for Flash.

  • Exporting HDV from Final Cut Express

I'm trying to export a video as an mpeg-2 from Final Cut Express and burn it onto a CD-ROM for use on a PC with Adobe Premier. Could anyone help on the best way to do so?

There is no MPEG-2 export from FCE unless you have a third party encoder. You might try googling it. There are some expensive ones. Why does it have to be MPEG-2 BTW? Wouldn't QuickTime be better? It's fully support by Premiere on both platforms.

  • Exporting movie from final cut express4 direct to apple tv

How can I export my completed movie from final cut express 4 to apple tv? This will be my first attempt. I have looked at the forum but cannot find a solution. I am fairly new to computing, (oap)!

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
The easiest method would be to export using Quicktime conversion and select the 'movie to Apple tv' option from the resultant dialogue box.

  • Transferring From Final Cut Express to Pro

Hey! I am looking to upgrade from Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro. I have a present project in Express and plan to finish it shortly. However, can I take this file from Express and finish editing it in Final Cut Pro?
    Thank you!

It has been reported that FCE projects will open in FCP. It does not work in the reverse direction, once the project is in FCP, FCE will not open it.
