What files could be missing?

I've just tried to re-install my Itunes after i was unable to open my former one, because it said Itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing, please
reinstall Itunes again.
What does that mean? Missing files?
And i just tried to download it from this site, it said mantainance succeeded but does that mean it has been dowloaded again. Because i still can't open the programme.
Still missing those files.
Restarting the computer didn't help either.
I'm scared i lost my songs.

It means its most likly missing quicktime or some other files. iTUnes uses parts of quicktime to play audio and video.
In Windows, goto control panel>add and remove and uninstall BOTH iTUnes and quicktime. You will not loose any music or playlist. Then for extra measure go here and roll down to the section "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer"

What 'file' am I miss as part of the itunes 7.0 Update?

I recently updated to itunes 7.01.8 and was informed that a new update for my ipod Nano 4GB was available through itunes. I decided to go ahead and update, but experienced problems at the first update. a status bar popped up on itunes labelled 'Can not Update 'My' ipod' software file is missing...'
Plus, I just recieved a 'virgin' Gen-5 ViPod 80GB and when updating it for the first time yesterday got the same message.
It seems to be associated with my pictures and video content. I have never used my iPods for pictures so thought it would be nice to have, activating the capability in iTunes at installation. All the purchased (iTunes Store) passes over fine but non of my other stuff (pictures and video).

I am experiencing the exact same issue during the installtion process for iTunes 10.5.
I uninstalled all Apple components but when I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update I received the same message: "Fatal error during installtion." I was able to repair the Apple Software Update but still could not install iTunes 10.5 afterwards.
I have tried everything that I could find on these discussions pages as well as other suggestions on third party sites. I continue to receive the error message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I was able to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime 7.7.1. During the reinstalltion process I received the same message (There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.) But after clicking "OK" the installtion process was succesful. PLEASE HELP!

Identify missing files ("The file could not be opened")

Hello,
I purposely deleted photos outside of LR. The photos are still in the catalog. When I attempt to develop a photo in the catalog which I forgot was deleted outside of LR the message "The file could not be opened" appears after a short delay.
This raises the question of how to identify ALL photos in a collection where the source files have been deleted (or otherwise cannot be found) and to mark those items for deletion from the catalog, and subsequently delete them.
Basically I want to assure ONLY those photos that exist (on my drive) are in the catalog.
(I realize there are many instances where on wants to maintain items in a catalog that are archived on other media and not readily available, but that's not what I want here.)
I have LR 1.1 on WinXP Pro with ample memory and disk space.

Did you try synchronize folders? Right click on the folder name and select. I haven't done this, but the help says it's supposed to deal with missing files as well as added files.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

I can't listen to at least 100 of my songs on itunes. When I try it gives me a message that it can't play that song because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? What do I do?

I have tried repairing Itunes and also uninstallng and reinstalling. I have restarted my computer and even done some troubleshooting. When I tried hooking my ipod up to my computer to see if that would help I got a message that said "At least 100 songs could not be transferred, including "You found me."" I have no such song in my itunes. Can itunes get a virus?

I was not complete clear.
Since you never changed the settings in the advanced section of iTunes preferecnes, you have to chech that your music is really in the location setted in the folders reported in the advanced section. If not you have 2 ways: reset the position of this folders or in the actual disk organisation or in the pointing on the preferences.
If you press the reset button you just give to itunes its default setting as for the position of the music files: probably this will be a good choice if you have never changed any default preference.
But before I would check the folders and see if the songs are really there

Are you 100% sure that every detail of your information is the same in each place?
Make sure that EVERY DETAIL is the same in every place you enter your information
-right down to how you spell and punctuate the parts of your name and address

I am getting this same message. I recently bought a new Macbook Pro and the geeks transferred my files from my mini-mac. Perhaps they did not transfer something critical? I follow the "locate" option when it asks to find my files and I get a file folder that has a red circle with a white bar in the middle.
I have the same issues with my downloaded movies but my apps all seem to be fine.
Even more confusing - it seems to allow random songs to play and download on my Macbook and other devices. But most of my music - whether downloaded from iTunes or my CD collection comes up with that message about the original file.
Should I get new geeks to locate these files on my old mini-mac?

I was given the option to locate the file where the song is held. If so select "locate" and direct it to the folder / file where the song is and open it. itunes then will give you the option to use this process to update all of your library. OK that as this will do it automatically instead of doing them one by one. I hope this helps.

When I go into Develop mode, some folders can be developed ok , but with images from two other folders I get the message "This file could not be found". What should I do?

may i suggest opening the files in Olymous Viewer 3 and exporting them (you can do some editing there if you wish or not) asTIFF files. After that you can import the new files into LR. LR seems to like tiiff more than .orf files
The advantage to using OV3 is that it seems to do a much better job converting RAW EM1 files. Colors are more accurate ( my red flower pot turned orange when loaded directly into lightroom)
. The tiff files just LOOK better in LR after the conversion . there is a youtube on this subject and when i tried it myself i was impressed
