What FireWire cable does the Intel 24 inch iMac use?

I am trying to transfer settings and stuff from an iMac G4 computer to my new iMac 24 inch Intel based. What kind of FireWire cable do I need? The gal from Apple said 4800? I'm having trouble locating it. I need to know what to search for online.

If you have a FireWire 400 cable then all you need is a 400 to 800 Adapter.

If not then you'll need a FireWire 400 to 800 cable.

  • What size SSD does the 13 inch 2012 entry-level MacBook Pro use?

I want to upgrade my 2012 13" MacBook Pro to use an SSD. I know that MacBooks use 2.5 inch laptop drives, but what are the sizes that MacBooks support?
    12.5mm, 9mm or 7.5mm etc...?

Most if not all SSDs are of the 9mm size and have a rubber bumper on them to make them taller, the 12.5 size. you can take the bumper system off most of them to make them fit into a 9mm space. But your Mac will take any size UP To 12.5mm. Not so for the optical bay.

  • What size fan does the HPE h8-1234 use?

Ive been trying to search for what fan size (in mm) the exchaust fan is but cant seem to find anything. So if anyone knows how big it is, reply please .
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It's really easy to find. The rear fan is called the system fan and it's part # is 646679-001. It can be a Foxconn PVA092G12M (92mm x 92mm x 25mm) with specs of DC12 Volt 0. 24 Amp, 45 CFM, and 3-PIN.
Now for the insane and complex. No where does anyone know the RPM on this fan. You'll see ratings from 900-2800, 1400-4000 RPM.
The best I can recommend is that you use this program, CPUID HWMonitor to actually find your fan rpm. FANIN1 is the rear fan. A low RPM fan will trip the fault sensor. You'll need to run the program, and then stress the system to bring the fan up to higher speed.

  • Re: What size fan does the HPE h8-1234 use?

Hey, are you sure the h8 1234 wouldn't use an AM3+ cooler? Doesn't it have an AM3+ socket? Sorry, pretty sure mine does and I'm looking to upgrade my fan after upgrading my Video Card and I want one that'll be compatible and fit into the stock case

    To simplify your question:
The rear case fan (aka system fan) is a 92mm x 92mm x25mm thick fan. It is a standard 3 wire fan. Do not pick a quiet type fan, as the low rpm will fault your system.  You can check your existing fan's speed with CPUIDHWMonitor, fan is FANIN1.
Now the other part of your question:
The rear case fan attaches to the SYSFAN header. Just follow the lead. It does not have anything to do with the AM3+ or LGA 1155/1156 type socket.  That is where you have confusion. In general, adding a faster case fan should assist in lowering overall temps in the case.

  • What processor speed is the Intel Iris Pro 1024 MB IMAC?

What processor speed is the Intel Iris Pro 1024 MB IMAC?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Intel Iris Pro is the GPU that comes with the most basic Late 2013 iMac and the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. This iMac comes with a 2'7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5. See > http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/imac

  • Does the 13-inch: 2.5 GHz 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz internet speed the same as the 13-inch: 2.9 GHz 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz

does the 13-inch: 2.5 GHz 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz internet speed the same as the 13-inch: 2.9 GHz 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz

The retina MBP will be faster than the conventional one on boot and shutoffs as well as very demanding CPU/GPU intensive applications.  As far as web browsing , text editing and other non-CPU intensive applications there will be little if any difference between the two.
If you install A SSD in the conventional MBP, it will be faster than the retina due to the faster CPU.  Note also that the conventional MBP can have up to 16 GB RAM installed. The retina is restricted to a maximum of 8 GB.
You will have to weigh the differences in the display, speed, form (weight) and flexibility as to how they suit your needs.  All I can do is to and highlight the differences.
    Ciao.

  • What Firewire Cable to buy?

    hi,
does anyone know what firewire cables work with isight? in order with the firewire cable adaptor, the thingy which holds the cable and plugs into the isight? i would like to use a cable which is about 5-6 meters.
    thankful for any tips.
    alex

    Hello Alex,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
the problem with most 3rd party FW cables is, that they don't fit into the isight cable holder thingy.
In addition to the suggestions others have offered here, you can get cables from your Apple VAR, Apple Store, or from the Apple web site. Several choices are available from Apple.
If you buy from an Apple retailer, he can find the correct items for you. For web ordering, as of this date:
]The 1.8m replacement for the cable that came with my iSight.
    ]The short (0.5m / 19 inches) version.
iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions also lists a replacement
    b FireWire Cable Adapter
    - current price: $6.25 US, but I cannot locate the part number. Your Apple retailer can help you.
    <hr>
so the task would be to find either a FW cable that matches the apple FW cable plug, or to find a ""connector" which would connect a 3rd party FW cable with a white apple one.
You can buy the entire iSight Accessory Kit, which includes both the cable
    b AND adapter
    as well as replacement mounts.

  • Applications do nor open on the Intel based iMac

I am rather disappointed with the new iMac with the much vaunted Intel processor. Among other things it is slow and more to the point, buggy.
After it has been up and running for some time and especially if it has been left idle for a while, many non-Apple programmes will not open. Today, I left the machine on, went away for about an hour. when I came back, I was unable to open a backgammon application. Many times, Entourage or other Microsoft programmes won't open. The solution is to re-boot and then all is well. However, the computer is very slow to re-boot. Apple 'iprogrammes' such as iWeb are pretty slow to open up.
This new machine is not fast. My Powerbook on 10.4.8 runs faster in just about every respect. By the way I have already done an archive and re-install; I run regular Unix clean up programmes and have also run it through Onyx.
The most I can award this computer is a meagre five out of ten. Not awfully impressed.
    Any thoughts out there.

The apps you mention - entourage etc. - are rosetta apps, that is, apps not yet updated for the Intel machines and using the Rosetta emulation layer. This can cause trouble from time to time, but a re-start is not necessary. You can force Rosetta to restart by either:
Launch Activity Monitor (in your Utilities) and search for a process called 'translated'. Quit it using the Activity Monitor. Then lauching Entourage (or whatever) will restart it, and the apps should start.
    or
In the Terminal issue the following command
    sudo killall translated
You'll be asked for your password, give it and hit return. Does exactly the same as the above.
if you're finding a general slowness, especially with the iApps, you might like to trash your caches. A glitchy cache file can slow things down quite a bit. There are several utilities that will do this for you, or you could just go into Home/Library/Caches and trash the various folders therein.

  • What firewire cable should I buy?

What firewire cable should I buy to connect my Macbook to my external drive Western Digital My Book Studio 500GB Quad Interface with Firewire 400/800? I am buying several of each for a new film class and I want to be sure to get the right equipment! (I'm confused about amounts of pins)
    Thanks for helping a novice!

There are two types of cables - FW800 and FW400. However, your MacBook does not support FW800 so all you need is the standard FW400 cable. It has six (6) pins.

  • What firewire cable?

Just bought a new 13" Macbook Pro. What firewire cable do I need to use Migration Manager to move files from my Imac?

If the iMac has a Firewire 800 port then you need a Firewire 800 cable. It depends how old your iMac is, can you give us any idea?

    Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.
