What Firewire Cable to buy?

hi,
does anyone know what firewire cables work with isight? in order with the firewire cable adaptor, the thingy which holds the cable and plugs into the isight? i would like to use a cable which is about 5-6 meters.
thankful for any tips.
alex

Hello Alex,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
the problem with most 3rd party FW cables is, that they don't fit into the isight cable holder thingy.
In addition to the suggestions others have offered here, you can get cables from your Apple VAR, Apple Store, or from the Apple web site. Several choices are available from Apple.
If you buy from an Apple retailer, he can find the correct items for you. For web ordering, as of this date:
]The 1.8m replacement for the cable that came with my iSight.
]The short (0.5m / 19 inches) version.
iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions also lists a replacement
b FireWire Cable Adapter
- current price: $6.25 US, but I cannot locate the part number. Your Apple retailer can help you.
<hr>
so the task would be to find either a FW cable that matches the apple FW cable plug, or to find a ""connector" which would connect a 3rd party FW cable with a white apple one.
You can buy the entire iSight Accessory Kit, which includes both the cable
b AND adapter
as well as replacement mounts.

  • What firewire cable should I buy?

What firewire cable should I buy to connect my Macbook to my external drive Western Digital My Book Studio 500GB Quad Interface with Firewire 400/800? I am buying several of each for a new film class and I want to be sure to get the right equipment! (I'm confused about amounts of pins)
    Thanks for helping a novice!

There are two types of cables - FW800 and FW400. However, your MacBook does not support FW800 so all you need is the standard FW400 cable. It has six (6) pins.

What firewire cable do I need to transfer data from a 2010 macbook to 2014 macbook

You would need a Firewire 800-800 (9-pin) cable and a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor.

  • What firewire cable?

Just bought a new 13" Macbook Pro. What firewire cable do I need to use Migration Manager to move files from my Imac?

If the iMac has a Firewire 800 port then you need a Firewire 800 cable. It depends how old your iMac is, can you give us any idea?

  • What FireWire cable does the Intel 24 inch iMac use?

I am trying to transfer settings and stuff from an iMac G4 computer to my new iMac 24 inch Intel based. What kind of FireWire cable do I need? The gal from Apple said 4800? I'm having trouble locating it. I need to know what to search for online.

If you have a FireWire 400 cable then all you need is a 400 to 800 Adapter.

I have an older (2004) Sony Handycam model TRV 460 with a Firewire port. I use a 2008 Harpertown Mac Pro, and need the right cable to transfer video.
    I've been told this:http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8706G/A#overview
    Or this:

I looked at the manual for the camera and the cable it comes with is a USB cable.
Firewire cables should look like this (FW400 on left FW800 on right):

I need to buy a firewire cable for my new iMac. I have a Sony FX1E camera which uses a 4 pin Firewire I think!.
Which Firewire cable do I need - there are so many different ones in PC World.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The iMac has a 9 pin Firewire port, so you would need a 4 pin to 9 pin cable. I would check with the camera manufacturer because the camera may require a special cable that they manufacture that prevents the iMac from sending to much wattage and burning out the camera.

  • What Firewire cable for latest iMac?

    Hi,
I am a bit confused that my Firewire doesn't fit into my new iMac (2011 model i3).
After a bit of Googling, I notice there are different pin amounts (4,6,9).
Which one do I need to connect my DV Video Camera to my iMac??!!
    Thanks in advance

Your choice. I prefer the cable with different ends. However, this should also do the job: http://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-FireWire-400-Adapter-FAD-824/dp/B0000CDJPQ

  • What video cable to buy to watch tv on old tube tv and mac pro

I have a MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA video card but I read that the DVI to s-video only works with the ATI video card. So what do I buy? My specs are below..
    GeForce 8600M GT:
    Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT
    Type: Display
    Bus: PCIe
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 128 MB
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0407
    Revision ID: 0x00a1
    ROM Revision: 3175

actually I read 2 reviews for the dvi to video adapter. One said it worked with the GeForce 8600M GT NVIDIA and one that said it did not work???
Does anyone know the "real" answer?
With graphics cards, the rule has been that DVI to video adapters don't work with NVIDIA graphics cards, but the developer note says they do work with Macs with built-in NVIDIA graphics
    <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/Articles/Video_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003994-SW891200331181>
The Apple adapter does say it will work with the MacBook Pro
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg4NQ>
    Non-Apple adapters may not work,though.

  • I'm just not sure what Firewire interface to buy

I've been lightly researching FW interfaces for the past 4-5 months and had my heart set on the Firebox until the Edirol FA-66 came out. Then I decided to wait until reviews of the Edirol surfaced before making my decision between the two interfaces. However, I cannot find a review for the Edirol! It's been out since April, has it not?
And now the Saffire comes along and throws a wrench into my research.
I'm going to be purchasing a unit in the next month or two.
    My needs are:
    Record Vocals (mic to come)
Record Acoustic Guitar (SM-57 for now, better mic(s) later)
    Record a djembe (African Drum)
    Use Midi from a keyboard
Use some drum loops until I can record a real set
I want to eventually use 2 mic's to record my acoustic guitar and may also want to use a vocal mic at the same time (3 inputs).
Price isn't much of a factor but less than $500 would be ideal. I don't NEED a Firepod ($600) so I am not considering it. So I guess price is a factor then .
I'm frustrated! Computer specs are in my siggy. In addition to my iMac, I have the newest generation 12" iBook.

I have an Edirol FA-101 (the big brother to the FA-66), and I'm a big fan of the Edirol Firewire interfaces for several reasons. The below comments apply to the FA-66 as well.
1.) It's hot-pluggable, as opposed to M-Audio interfaces. The chip that Edirol uses apparently senses when it's connected so as not to blow your Firewire port.
2.) No driver is necessary. The Mac OS has support for the Edirol FW interfaces built in, so there's no driver conflicts or updates necessary.
3.) It's one sharp looking interface; the red is awesome! (Okay, this shouldn't be a factor, but it still looks cool).
4.) Edirol has a lifetime warranty on non-moving parts. MOTU, for example, has a paltry 90 day warranty. I love MOTU interfaces as well (I had an 828 for a long time), but the Edirol warranty is great.
5.) Edirol's tech support is great. I always get an e-mail response from them within the hour, no matter how trivial the question.
So, I strongly recommend Edirol as you can see, but there are some great interfaces out there, so it'll be hard to go wrong. I would probably stay away from M-Audio simply because of their hot-plugging issues, but if you play by their rules, even their interfaces get good reviews. Still, I'd go for Edirol if I were you.
    Good luck!

  • Which Firewire Cable to connect an iMac and a Mac mini ???

    Hi guys
What Firewire cable should I buy to connect an iMac G5 and a Mac mini G4 and use a partition on the mini as a Target Disk?
    I've read something about 4 pin, 6 pin, 9 pin... 400, 800
I have no idea what type of cable I have to buy and if it makes different about performance...
    Cheers!

No, you need a FW400 6-pin to 6-pin cable and they are all the same. FW800 has an entirely different connector and neither the iMac nor the mini have it. It might be called IEEE1394 or iLink on the package, but it is all FireWire 400 in stores generally. I have never seen a FW800 cable in a regular retail store.

  • Which Firewire cable to use

I have an iMac and a Macbook. I need to transfer applications & files from the Macbook to the iMac. I guess I should use Migration Assistant, but don't know what Firewire cable to use...4 pin, 6 pin, etc. Thanks

Sorry to butt in, butt I bought a firewire cable because I now own two macs. I wanted to transfer photos from the Imac to the Macbook. I started the transfer process, however, I might be confused as to what I am really transferring. It was asking me about which applications I wanted to transfer and which user accounts. ?? Then, does all this information delete from my Imac? Help!!

  • Firewire cable - which one

I feel like an idiot posting a simple question but I cant work out what firewire cable to get to plug in an external hard drive. I have now bought two cables - the hard drive is a 6 pin but I cant work out which kind to get to plug into the mac socket. I have an imac intel 21.5 inch bought late 2009.
I only discovered this problem when the external hard drive is not being recognised by the mac via USB --- my other external hard drives work fine via the same usb port
    Any help well appreciated

    Hello morganfish
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If your External Hd's are FireWire 400 then you could use a 400 to 800 adapter. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/FIR1369AD/
Or if we knew exactly what external HD(s) you had, then we might be able to suggest the correct FireWire cable to go straight from you External HD to your iMac's FireWire 800 port?
But it sounds like you need a 6 to 9 pin FireWire cable.
