What first - rollnames, comments, keywords, or albums?

I'd like an idea how to get started with organizing approx. 20,800 pics (they are on the drive and ready to go!). The current roll names arent the greatest and really arent organized - but if I am making albums, etc. I dont think that matters, right?
Do you go through and create comments FIRST for all (every one) of the pictures? Do you then go back and create abums? Do you drag EVERY picture into an album? Do you create keywords on the fly?
I was thinking this, but it seems to make double or even triple the work -- ??
1-view images by date and delete duplicates (almost done with this)
2-unknown dates - change to 1/1/1990 12:00:00AM to manually change individual files later (old camera had imprint on image)
3-start writing comments for the images
4-create smart albums base on comment field (ex: each family member) - but this seems like I have to retype the name too many times for pictures!
5-create albums for images and drag into album
This just doesnt seem right! I have lots of photos of my kids, festivals in Japan (different locations), and other 'big events' in life where there are series of photos.
Tips and direction?? Thanks in advance.

My last data base system had an overload of keywords - it was out of control. I'd like to keep it really basic and then just breakdown those categories to create albums. Smtr - you can select two or more images and "batch" them with Title, Comment, or Date correction!! I have been doing that and it works great. It even keeps the last one entered in the field selected (Title, Date, Comment) so you can reuse it over and over when you click OK.
Thanks for the insight on the film rolls. I noticed the description field too. I think for me it is double work right now, maybe triple. I would be creating the roll descriptions AND the comments AND albums with some of the same text. It's one of those thoughts... what comes first? The chicken or the egg? From here on out I will name the rolls and add descriptions to make future organizing a snap. Because I had to import chunks of photos, the rolls are not a reliable means to find photos for me. Hmmm. Now that I think of it, maybe this will not be a reliable method at all without some major effort. Do you see? Right now I am organizing pics with keywords and albums. Next I would have to go back and then reorganize all of them into rolls. That is counterproductive. I need to view my photos by date due to the lack of roll organization. I also feel like the roll view is limited - I wish it would appear in the left side of the screen with the other stuff.
Thanks for your feedback. It helped me see if my method was going in the right direction. I think it is. I hope this is honestly the last time I have to reorganize this 20,000 pic database FOREVER. LOL I didnt want to get through 10-20% of the filing and realize it was totally the wrong direction and unusable.
I am discovering little tidbits along the way. It really "comes to you" once you are working with the program and find your niche. It is a beauty!

I have an ipod classic 120 gig, had it couple of months now, all of a suddent its been playing up.
It will only play the first 3 trakcs of an album, it will then skip the rest, the tracks are fine as i can play them manually.
This also happens on shuffle it will play a couple of tracks then just wont play the rest.
    Anyone else had this issue?

  • How can I import keywords and albums from iphoto 5?

I have new imac with iPhoto 7.1. I'd like to import the keywords and albums along with the pics from my old imac and iphoto 5. Photos import, but not tags or albums. Any suggestions?

    Roy
The trick is not to import, but to update.
Copy the library from the old mac to the new one, then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at this old one and it will update it to a v7 library, including albums and keywords.
If you already have a new library on your new machine, then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge them or to move the pics from the older to the newer.
    Regards

When viewing multiple item information, I was wondering what the checkboxes next to "Artist", "Album Artist", etc... are used for.

When checked, it means that you are going to apply whatever is in the box to all of the selected items.

  • TS1424 iTunes skip the first two songs of the album I just purchased from the iTunes Store?

Why does iTunes skip the first two songs of the album I just purchased from the iTunes Store?
I previously checked that the download was complete.  (Had plenty of time, but checked nonetheless it was done.)  I have closed and reopened iTunes several times.  Frustrated.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • HT4007 What happened to my keywords? Since the last update of aperture I can't see my keywords anymore! Who will help me find them back?

What happened to my keywords? Since the last update of aperture I can't see my keywords anymore! Every photo (1000s of images) had several keywords, but they're all gone. (Or at least I can't see them anymore.) Who will help me find them back?

You need to enable the display for metadata in Browser and Viewer.
There are several places how whereyou can turn it on; for example, from the main menu bar "view" menu:
View > Metadata display > Viewer > Show Metadata
View > Metadata display > Browser > Show Metadata
You need to configure the Metadata shown in these overlays.
    Use
View > Metadata display > Browser > Customize
Enable all tags you want in the left column of this panel. The "keyword" are enabled in the "Content" section of the left colum.

  • Keywords and albums

After a recent crash I had to reinstall elements 6.  Now the keyword and album pallette controls are really slow.  Dragging icons onto one or one hundred selected images isn't a problem, but if I attempt to expand or collapse the keyword window it takes forever and puts an enormous load on the cpu. Any ideas?

Yes, I tied that to no avail.  To be more specific: not only do the keyword and album windows (or whatever you call them) take a long time to expand or collapse...the same is true of the individual keyword categories, i.e. 'people', 'places' etc.  Also the entire organizer takes longer than it should to open. I think this is because it's opening the keywords etc. as part of starting up.  In the windows task manager elements cpu usage jumps to 50% or more as it's laboring away at these malfunctioning operations.
    Thanks for your interest,

created in Dreamweaver? How would you rate Haloscan commenting
    service?

Hm - there is only one PowerMac G4 without a line-in - it's called "PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio)". Take a look at this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
... it shows the back panels of 3 models, and if yours is the 3rd, that's it.
In this case, you can really only input sounds digitally. The cheapest solution would be to get an iMic USB device (maybe that's what your husband had - look at the pic. Older models were more like silvery), it comes for < 40 $, and you can plug a microphone into it (with the small 1/8" plug). Not super-great sound, but for that mic it should be good enough.

You get two copies of the album. You can't use the gift code to get a different album. You get what the purchaser chose for you.

  • What is the difference between "Group Albums" and "Albums"

What is the difference between "Group Albums" and "Albums"

An album is a shareable object; you can add photos to an album, then subsequently share that album with someone else. It's better than sharing your whole library, and allows you to make and share lots of different related sets of photos.
Group Albums allow you to collaborate on an album with others. Both you and the collaborators can upload photos or videos, and view them in My Library. All members of the Group Album can also edit, copy, print, and download the items in the album.
Only members of Photoshop.com can participate in Group Albums. But since membership is free, you can invite nonmembers to participate in a Group Album, and they can create a Photoshop.com account and contribute files.

  • Memo field for keywords, folders, albums or projects

    Hi -
I'm reading the manual and liking what I learn.
My pc-based DAM is very capable and has a couple of features that I'd like to know if Aperture has, but that I'm not seeing where to find them.
I would like to be able to include a memo-field, or post-it note, about any of the following:
    Example 1: Keywords
Keyword = Mary and Associated Memo = friend from nursery school
    Keyword = Joan and Associated Memo = mother's brother's wife's mother
Keyword = Candlesticks and Associated Memo = family heirloom from Austria blah blah blah
I don't want to put the description in the IPTC caption field, because the info isn't about a particular photo, and I certainly would not want to include it with every photo. Just a one-time description
    Example 2: IPTC sub-location
Sub-location = 7 Smith Street and Associated Memo =we lived there from 1941-1943 and loved the large dining room
    Example 3: Project
Project = trip to Peru and Associated Comment = Jane raised $4000 to pay for her expenses for this trip and volunteered in a small town as a teacher blah blah blah
You get the idea, I think.
A work-around, assuming Aperture doesn't have this ability (yet!), would be to create dummy empty images, include the text in the caption field, and enter the corresponding metadata. I would use icons for the dummy image (icons designating About this Person, About this Place, About this Event....)
Example, keyword = So, whenever I retrieve images of Joan, I also get an About this Person dummy image, with the description of who she is.
    Feedback?
    Ideas?
Plans for Aperture to include something along the lines of Excel's comment which can be associated with a cell, or perhaps Speech Bubble explanations?
    thanks

This should be started as a new thread -- do so if you have any questions.
Strongly recommend using Projects as intended (see comments by Frank and DLSCreative in current thread ^1^ and long comment by me in another thread ^2^ ). In your case that would mean Folders with the headings you've selected, the (most likely) Projects, then Albums (and perhaps more Folders).

  • What is the equal keyword for Except?

While taking data i am using except keyword but i am getting deadlock alert .how can i resolve it?
    Thanks Regards R.Karthick

Thanks Olaf. Now i understood about that .i will explain my scenario here ,please give some comments
Actually i am calling one Store Procedure continuously from C# code using multi threading. In that Store Procedure only i am getting this dead lock alert.I have to call that SP .How can i resolve it?
    Thanks Regards R.Karthick
Sorry we would need more details
Whats the procedure doing? Is it trying to insert some data? Or is it a retrieval? Is there some transaction involved inside? Is the table it accesses having a clustered index?
Anyways since you say deadlock is happening first step would be to analyze deadlock detection graph and analyse processes involved in it

  • HT1229 What happens to photos in an album in iPhoto on Mac when upgrading to Yosemite.

What happens to all the photos in iPhoto when upgrading to Yosemite.  My pictures are in an album to be made into a photobook with Shutterfly  or another service but it is not entirely ready to go. I would not want to loose this album, took me a long time to gather all these pictures (over 200) , edit them and write captions. I understand that Yosemite will eliminate iPhoto.  However, I want to know if they will delete iPhoto even if I do not upgrade as yet.

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • Where are the first three Back Sabbath studio Albums? All the store has is their LIVE album crap.

It's frustrating that they have the lousy live albums of Black Sabbath and none of their original studio albums.
Specifically, their first three albums. The best music they ever did. Why aren't they available?
Also, where are all the Blues Brothers Albums. Again, only one of their Albums. Is there someplace to put in music requests to iTunes?

The itunes store can ONLY sell what the owners of the distribution rights allow them to sell.
Whomever owns the distribution rights to these albums has not reached an agreement with itunes that would allow them to sell the albums.
    You can make requests here:
