What format shiould i burn dvd in to play in blueray player? Using MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake

what format should i burn dvd in to play in blueray player? Using MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake

MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake
Neither is suitable for burning DVDs or BluRay media. They are DVD rippers/converters, not DVD authoring tools.  Handbrake doesn't produce any format suitable for DVD Authoring.   And while MacDVD Ripper can create .mov files even that's not a guarantee the file can be used for DVD authoring.  You need DVD Authoring software like Roxio Toast to burn DVDs or BluRay disks.
Most BluRay players can play both standard def DVDs and high def BluRay disks.  Which kind do you want to burn?  And what exactly is your source media (video) that you want to burn?
And if you want to burn BluRay disks, you need a BluRay burner.

DVD Studio pro 4 no longer builds a DVD that will play in any player, is there an update or a comparable software available? Or are there some internal fixes that I have not found.  Preferences that will allow a clean product to be delivered?

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I first import all my assets, build my DVD, which may include one or more menus, pictures, music, etc. I use the simulator to test all aspects of video before burning.  Making sure that the end jump works, if I add chapters, going to each chapter making sure buttons and end jumps for the chapters work.  When I am satisfied I then go to burn/format function and delete or reuse any folders that the computer advises.  The resolution is SD, display mode 16.9, Lossless linking, red laser, single, one side 12 cm.  Thats about it.  Haven't had a problem in the past just wondering what I could be doing wrong now. I am workingo on an imac, MAC OS X, 10.7.4, 2.93 GHz, Intel Core 17, Memory 8GB, 133mHz,DDR3.
Response I get is, unknown disc, please check disc again."

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted from the disc, the USB device, or Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • What format should I burn video files in, so I could import it to final cut

I need to burn video files on a DVD and then upload those files into the final cut pro.
What format should I use when I burn those files on the DVD?

Ideally, you should stick with DV -it's already a highly compressed format to begin with and even then it comes in at 13GB per hour. Compressing even further and then converting back to DV to use the files in FCP will have a visible impact on quality.
A dual layer DVD can hold around 8 GB. They could burn the discs using Toast 9 or 10 which can split larger files across multiple discs.
If you have lots more, perhaps it would be better to invest in an external laptop drive and put the files on that. There are models that are powered via the FireWire bus, so that would also get around the fact that different voltages are used abroad.

  • Burned DVD won't play on outside player but OK with Toast

    Here we go again!
After scanning the other posts I still cannot find anything to make my problem go away.
Situation: New G5 Quad and all of HD Suite installed.
Have gone through DVDPro advanced tutorial OK.
    Burned to Memorex DVD-R media.
Plays great on G5, and a G3 that I still have, with DVD Player app.
But after trying disc on 3 different outside players they still come up with "unreadable disk" or "bad disk".
Players are relatively new - one mf'd within the last year in a TV combo, and the other, my favorite, Apex AD1200.
I figure if something will play on ANY machine, it will play on the Apex.
I have burned the same file to Toast 7 using the DVD Video from VIDEO_TS option and have been able to play it on my Apex with no problem.
However, inserting this "Toasted" disk into my computer gets me everything except the audio.
I have talked to Support and they do not cover this problem, but pointed me to a page on the Apple website for deleting preferences, which I have done with no effect, and have done a clean re-install of the application, again with no change in what I am getting when re-burning disks.
Anyone have any ideas as to what needs to be done to make this application work properly?

    GENTLEMEN -
I posted this to the BMUG website subsequent to chasing down the suggestions offered at that time.
So far the response has been ZERO . . .
At the March 20 meeting I brought up my problems with selecting the correct media for burning my DVD Pro files so that they would play well across a range of dvd players out in the real world - approaching what you expect when you buy a commercially produced DVD movie.
I’m running the G5 Quad, and have the Final Cut Studio HD package.
I am simply looking for some guidance from Apple. Is there a favorite media that has been settled on by Apple, or Apple employees by word of mouth?
One of the attendees stated that he had no problems with his machine or disks that he produced. I wish to communicate with him as to exactly what he is doing and what he is using to be problem-free.
Another attendee suggested I contact the drive manufacturer and ask what media they recommend. Problem is, there is nothing in the Apple profiler that tells me who manufactured this drive. All I can glean from my profiler is the model number, which is HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B. Other forums suggest it is a Hitachi. My own investigation yields the probable manufacturer as LG Electronics. They do not show that EXACT model number (the last 4 digits are slightly different) in their lineup, so I am assuming it is a special build for Apple. So much for that line of inquiry.
I initially used DVD-R media. This played back OK on my computer DVD player, and about 2 out of 15 other DVD players I sampled. Using the same media and file, I burned a disk using Toast 7 on the superdrive. It played fine on three players it did not play on before. I only used the ones that I had immediate access to.
When I switched to 2 different DVD+R media I got the same results as the “Toasted” -R disk.
Why is it OK with Toast on the superdrive, but not with DVDPro on the superdrive???
There is no question about the correctness of the file itself. It is the completed Advanced Tutorial for DVD Pro.
I cannot proceed with projects I have until I can be certain that I am not producing coasters for the majority of the dvd readers out in the real world. I purchased all this gear just so that I could do what it promises can be done with it.
    Some answers.
    Please.

  • I have partitioned my time capsule, but I can't get it to work as a Time Machine back up and permanent media server for both mac and PC. What format do I need to partition the drive to so that it works for both mac and windows and so that it will be visab

I have partitioned my time capsule, as I want part of it to act as a media server for both mac and windows. However I don't know what format that I need to partition it to. I also can't make it a permanently accesible drive. I want to restore the drive to the original format (which I don't know) and start again and re-partition the drive in a format that can be used for media by both mac and PC and for time machine back-ups and make the media part of it permanetly accesible so I can add and acccess my files.
    Thanks

You are mixing up a couple of things here.
The TC drive cannot be partitioned without removing it.. did you do that?
If you partition it you must use a Mac disk utility and use the HFS+ ie standard Mac format. And GUID partition table not windows type.
You can select erase disk in the airport utility.. that will take the disk back to original format. No partitions. TC is deliberately not partitioned as it is not a media server.. it is a backup device for TM. Over time .. the disk will be filled with TM backups so you have a long history of file changes to your computer.
There is no media server in the TC.. it is merely disk storage.. you can serve files from it to a media device.. but the TC itself is dumb as dumb.
Now the actual format of the drive is irrelevant to the PC.. The TC offers SMB file services to the network. You can copy files to and from the TC as if it was a local disk without caring one iota about the format. The TC handles that .. it is not a local disk .. it is a network drive.
Although you cannot partition the TC. you can still copy files to it.. this does have implications for TM.. but as long as there is plenty of free space should not be a major issue.
You can create a disk image via the disk utility in a Mac.. and as stated you can create partitions if you do it on a Mac with the disk directly connected which means breaking warranty if any exists on the TC.

  • Is it impossible to burn a second copy of a DVD after you have burned the first from iDVD? i am using OS 10.6.8 and iDVD version 7.1.2. the DVD is inserted, then iDVD ejects it, but keeps running as though it is working but it's not.

    any help is much appreciated.

thanks guys; but the problem is that iDVD does not want to burn a disk now from the original movie-project. i see the movie project on teh desktop and can launch it just fine - even play it through the iDVD application - but when i click burn, it asks for a disk (I insert a memorex DVD+RDL 8.5Gb 240 minute dual layer) and it ejects it a few seconds later. the IDVD progress bar still runs as though it is burning just fine - its progress drops from 18 minutes all the way to "less than a minute" and then it hangs. even if i insert a different memorex disk, it still doesn't start actually burning it. it only burned the very first memorex disk i inserted successfully. i have tried disk utility to burn from a .dmg file copy of the original successfully burned disk, but disk utility can't burn onto the memorex disk either. maybe something wrong with the super drive? thanks for your ideas.

  • DVD won't play in ordinary player

    Hi,
I'm quite new to the whole process of creating DVDs, so I tried using iDVD but it's a terrible program so Iäm trying to use DVD Studio Pro without knowing much about it. I've burned a DVD using it and it won't play on an ordinary player. It simulates fine in DVD Studio, and it plays back fine on the computer, but simply doesn't register in any DVD player. Can anyone suggest any reason why this might be the case?
Thank you all in advance for your help!
    Kinkersnick

Thank you for such a quick reply! Ok, so here's a bit more information. The DVD is actually only a single video (of about 60 mins.) which has the first play set to it - the little disc with play arrow on it in the graphical display. The disc is an SD DVD not an HD DVD (first, and only, thing I thought would be the problem). Here is a copy of the burning details:
Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
Warning: The file ‘WIMWENDERS.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
    Start formatting
    Formatting as Standard DVD
    Simulation mode is off
    Lossless linking is on
    Number of layers is 1
    Doing side 1 of 1
    Playable in region 1,2,3,4,5,6,8
    Disc size is 12 cm
    Disc has no copyright material
I don't know if any of this is relevant though. I#m confused as to what the two errors at the beginning mean... perhaps they have something to do with the problem???
The media used is DVD-R and has been tried in 3 different players, all relatively new, which suggests to me it's unlikely to be the media.
I'm at a total loss here, so I would appreciate any and all help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Kinkersnick

  • Purchased a used Late 2011 Macbook Pro and cannot get find my Mac to work. What do I need to do?

So I purchased a used late 2011 Macbook Pro from a friend. I am trying to get the find my Mac app set up but it won't let me because I believe he still has it as one of his devices. I texted him a couple days ago to ask him to remove it, but it doesn't seem he has or is in any rush to do that. I was debating re-installing the entire OS to give myself a fresh start. Will this give me the ability to set my computer up on the find my Mac app or is it tied to something more than the hard drive/OS.

I actually think I will be upgrading the hard drive size. So to confirm, when I reinstall the OS on this new hard drive, I will be able to add this as my own device within the Find my Mac app?
Yes, after you zero out the drive.
    Which os is installed?
Just out of curiousity, what happens on my friends end to this device?
It's your friends problem not yours.  Your friend will have to get his "Find my Mac" app.

  • Burn Disk Won't Play in CD Player!

I can burn an audio cd in itunes succesfully, however when I try to play the audio cd on my car cd play it won't work....someone help!

Now I have this problem as well. I'm trying to burn an audio CD from iTunes that will play in my car.
At first I thought it was an iTunes purchased music issue, but I tried burning a cd containing a mix of music I've imported into iTunes and purchased from iTunes. Same result. I've tried changing settings, different cd brands with no success.
I have been able to create cd's from playlists for my car in the past, but now all of a sudden I'm having no luck. The burned cd's play fine in my computer and in other people's computers, just not in my car's cd player (tests ok with other cd's).
I've even tried importing a burned cd back into iTunes then burning a disk off of that playlist, with exactly the same result. The cd just clicks in the car cd player.
Hoping this is something really simple, hoping someone can help.

If you get the latest update for fcpx, it will handle video shot in 60P. That is 10.0.4
Here is what Apple says it supports, and one version of the 900 seems to be supported.
I think the Apple site is a little behind its own software update, as one advantage of the new update is that it handles 60P.
Maybe I am missing something, but I wonder what would happen if you get the latest update for fcpx, and try your card again. I did find that fcpx now supports my sony dslr at 60P.
Here is a thread with one person saying they can now use their 900.

  • Burned CDs won't play on portable player

My friend who has a PC has been burning CDs for me of spoken-word MP3s. They play fine on my portable CD player. Recently she gave me a USB drive with a bunch of MP3s for me to burn myself on my new MacBook Pro. The CDs I burned won't play on the CD player (but they will play in iTunes on my computer). I don't understand what's going on...can anyone help out? Thanks.

Yes, if your interest is only in burning CDs and you don't want to keep the music in iTunes, the process is pretty cumbersome. You may want to buy a disc burning application like Toast, which can burn all sorts of formats without your needing to import anything into iTunes.
